Andrew Garfield’s next movie is coming to theaters on October 17, but ahead of its arrival, two of his most iconic movies of all time are coming to the biggest streamer in the world. Garfield made his debut as Peter Parker alongside Emma Stone in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and he later reprised that role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also introduced Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan to the franchise. Both Amazing Spider-Man movies are currently streaming on Disney+, but Netflix has confirmed that they will also begin streaming on the platform at the start of next month, on September 1.
The first Amazing Spider-Man movie was mostly well-liked by critics and audiences, earning scores of 71% from the former and 77% from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes. Neither critics nor audiences were as hot on the sequel, which landed a rotten 50% from critics and a lukewarm 64% from audiences on the aggregate site. Neither film struggled to make a profit at the box office, though. The first film, which also stars Denis Leary, grossed $758 million globally, and its Paul Giamatti-starring sequel earned $716 million.
Both Amazing Spider-Man movies were directed by Marc Webb, who most recently helmed the Rachel Zegler-led controversial Disney adaptation, Snow White. James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent, and Steve Kloves wrote the script for the first Amazing Spider-Man film, but only Vanderbilt returned to pen the sequel, which also added Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner as scribes. Marc Webb is also famous for directing Gifted, the 2017 drama starring MCU veteran Chris Evans and McKenna Grace.
Is Andrew Garfield in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’?
There have been no reports or speculation about Andrew Garfield’s potential involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the film has assembled a loaded ensemble in his stead. Starring alongside Tom Holland in his fourth solo MCU adventure is Mark Ruffalo, who has been playing The Hulk since 2012’s The Avengers. After making his long-awaited MCU debut earlier this year in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Jon Bernthal is also confirmed to star as Punisher in the film, which is coming to theaters on July 31, 2026. Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel, is directing Spider-Man 4, which also stars Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink.
Be sure to watch Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man movies on Netflix next month and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
