We Tried the Pumpkin Wellness Club—Here’s How It Helped Us Save on Vet Visits

[ad_1]

As a lifelong dog mom, one of the most valuable pieces of advice I give fellow pet parents is to plan for your pet’s routine care costs. Without a budget-friendly plan in place, expenses such as wellness visits, vaccinations, and parasite prevention can add up quickly. That’s why we decided to explore the Pumpkin Wellness Club, a membership-based program that provides peace of mind on routine veterinary services and more.

No one wants an unexpected vet bill for vaccines, heartworm prevention, or dental cleaning. That’s why a preventative care plan for my dog can help catch health issues early before they become full-blown emergencies. As I explored different wellness plans for dogs, the Pumpkin Wellness Club stood out for its flexible vet choice, easy reimbursement process, and a focus on making preventative care affordable and accessible.

In this article, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about the Pumpkin Wellness Club, from registration to reimbursement and what it does and doesn’t cover. Spoiler alert: As a bonus, Pumpkin provides pet parents with exclusive wellness perks as part of their paid plan.

What Is Pumpkin Wellness Club and What Does It Cover?

The Pumpkin Wellness Club is one of the offerings from Pumpkin. After the simple enrollment process, pet parents pay a monthly membership fee (starting at $19.95 for dogs) that reimburses routine care and provides helpful extra benefits.

Pet parents like myself love it because it:

  • Helps to save money on the routine care you are already paying for
  • Helps prevent costly issues by covering care to avoid illness
  • Features speedy reimbursement, where you get paid in days, not weeks
  • Can be used with any licensed veterinarian in the United States or Canada
  • Comes with a 24/7 pet healthline for fast answers from vet professionals
  • Includes member perks on pet brands and products you like

There are two different membership plans available from Pumpkin Wellness Club: essential and premium. Here’s an overview of what each covers so you can choose the level you want for dogs:

As a lifelong Cocker Spaniel mom (over three decades), I know that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  Sharing life with my 3-½-year-old American Cocker Spaniel, Sir Alvin, means staying on top of his health and wellness so he can enjoy a long, happy life.

In addition to being a proud dog mom, I am also a pet industry writer and product expert. I’ve learned that proactive care means Sir Alvin feels his best while I save money from reduced stress related to potential health issues down the road.

Being a member of the Pumpkin Wellness Club means saving on top pet products and having access to a 24/7 pet health helpline to ask questions. This makes it more than a reimbursement plan, but a major bonus with hundreds of dollars in savings every year.

My Experience With the Plan

A team member is available to answer questions Monday through Friday during regular Eastern time business hours (9 am to 5 pm ET) via chat. Phone or email support is available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm ET. I had a few questions on a Sunday before signing up, so I used Pumpkin’s online assistant to chat.

If you aren’t sure which plan is best for you, Pumpkin makes it easy to choose. For my dog’s needs and my budget, our choice is the Premium Plan. I like that it covers more services, including preventative medications and routine dental care.

Fun fact: Some wellness visits may cost over $300, so having this peace of mind wellness membership gives me peace of mind.

We enjoy that this preventative care plan allowed us to enjoy the benefits the day we joined. We could file a Pumpkin Wellness Club veterinary claim within 14 days of joining, which meant Sir Alvin’s recent health check-up and heartworm prevention qualified for reimbursement. I felt like we both received an instant bonus on learning of this benefit.

Submitting a vet bill is seamless:

  • Take a photo of your itemized vet bill or scan it as a PDF.
  • Ensure the bill shows each service and includes the vet’s information, date of service, and the total amount being submitted.
  • Provide basic details (pet name, date of visit, etc.)
  • Submit and wait a few days for processing and reimbursement.
  • Direct deposit for reimbursement is our preferred method, but you can choose a paper check to be mailed to you.

I understood that accidents and illnesses are not covered, but the Pumpkin Wellness Club is meant for routine care services up to the yearly limits noted in your plan.

In addition to saving up to $360 for dogs and $390 per year on routine vet care and more, the Pumpkin Wellness Club offers:

  • Access to exclusive discounts on brands like MySimplePetLab, Ollie, Bytetag, fable, embark, and more. Annual discounts are valued at $100+.
  • Unlimited calls to the PawSupport 24/7 pet health helpline, valued at $100+ (ideal for late-night or weekend questions).

What Makes Pumpkin Wellness Club Different?

When choosing a wellness club for your dog, here’s what I recommend you look for:

  • What is and isn’t covered: Be clean so you understand if the services covered are ones you use (i.e., exams, vaccines, dental cleanings, parasite prevention).
  • Flexibility in vet choice: No one wants to be denied club benefits because their vet isn’t part of the club’s network.
  • Start date and waiting periods: Will club benefits kick in right away or is there a waiting period? What about vet wellness visits before the plan? Any retroactive coverage?
  • Claim submission process: Is it easy to understand and quick? No one has time for long, boring processes that are confusing and tedious.
  • Extra perks and bonuses: If having access to a veterinary hotline is essential, this is something to consider.
  • Cost vs savings: Compare the monthly fee to your average yearly vet care cost to see if you will save money.
  • Upgrade options: Are there levels available, such as essential or premium? If dental cleanings are important, consider the Premium membership.

I receive offers from other wellness memberships for my dog, but Pumpkin’s Wellness Club stood out for several key reasons:

  1. Freedom to choose any veterinarian in the United States or Canada
  2. Fast payouts within days (not weeks, hallelujah)
  3. A focus on preventative care, which is something all pet parents should be aware of
  4. Member savings on products and services besides vet care
  5. 24/7 PawSupport helpline for veterinary advice when you need it most

I considered two other wellness clubs for dogs: Banfield and Pawp. Banfield’s wellness plan only works at Banfield clinics, which I don’t use. Pawp focuses on emergencies, not routine care, and that’s not what I need right now.

Pro Tip: Many pet insurance plans offer a wellness rider, often called a preventative care add-on to a regular policy. However, you cannot buy a wellness rider on its own, and coverage is limited. For example, some wellness riders have low annual caps and strict service categories. If you aren’t using every covered category, it results in a waste of your time and money.

Pros & Cons of Pumpkin Wellness Club

Here is what I considered to be the pros and cons of the Pumpkin Wellness Club:

Pros

  • Essential routine care is covered, which includes services such as wellness exams, vaccines, and flea and tick prevention.
  • Freedom to visit your veterinarian of choice in the U.S. or Canada (handy when traveling)!
  • The premium plan features dental cleaning or spay/neuter, the latter of which is ideal for new pet parents.
  • Quick reimbursement so I don’t have to wait weeks for my money.
  • Simple pricing and no hidden fees.
  • Immediate benefits starting the day I join (with eligible services from up to 14 days before enrollment).
  • Promotes proactive care to help catch health problems before they develop into more serious issues.

Cons

  • Annual coverage caps for each service category with a maximum reimbursement amount.
  • Upfront payment is required with your veterinarian at the time of service.
  • Does not include accident or illness coverage, as this is a preventative care offering.
  • Limited to the United States and Canada.
  • The monthly fee may not pay for itself if your dog is low-maintenance or doesn’t use the covered benefits.

Is It Safe, Legit, and Easy to Use?

Sprout Wellness Services, LLC, provides the Pumpkin Wellness Club. It is not pet insurance, but rather a standalone pet wellness membership.

When it comes to purchasing anything for my dog, I become a regular “Sherlock Bones” to ensure it’s truly worth the investment and my hard-earned money. I discovered Pumpkin is:

  • Based in the United States
  • Offers both pet insurance and wellness plans for dogs and cats
  • Known for its transparent policies, fast reimbursements, and flexibility to use any veterinarian in the United States or Canada
  • Known for its user-friendly platform, which I can attest to

They are 100 percent legitimate, and becoming a member of the Pumpkin Wellness Club is ideal for:

  • First-time pet parents
  • Owners of a newly adopted dog or cat
  • Pet parents on a budget
  • People with dogs or cats that aren’t ideal candidates for a regular pet health insurance policy (i.e., too many preexisting conditions)
  • Pet parents with senior dogs who are more costly to insure
  • Those who want peace of mind and believe in preventative care

Pricing, Availability, and How to Sign Up

As discussed earlier, sign-up is a breeze and starts by visiting the Pumpkin Wellness Club website. Policies start at $19.95 per month for the essential plan for dogs. Pricing varies by your pet’s age, species, and the level plan you choose. Some important aspects to consider before signing up:

  • You will be charged for a monthly subscription with cancellation available at any time.
  • Your policy includes annual benefits worth up to $390 for cats or $360 for dogs.
  • Premium plans provide $150 coverage for dental or spay/neuter.
  • The plans are available to pet parents in the United States or Canada
  • The Wellness Pumpkin Club is user-friendly, so you can submit your claim easily from your mobile device.

By keeping the sign-up process simple and the claims process easy, Pumpkin makes preventative care more accessible and less stressful. Keeping Sir Alvin happy and healthy is easy with the Pumpkin Wellness Club

Final Verdict: Is Pumpkin Wellness Club Worth It?

For $19.95 per month, pet parents enjoy a variety of benefits and services. For the premium plan, the $44.95 monthly club fee pays for itself. For example:

  • Get up to $700 per year for routine care you’d typically pay on your own.
  • Get paid up $100 for vaccines targeting parvo, feline leukemia, and other diseases.
  • Get paid up $150 for tick, flea, and heartworm prevention with a Premium Plan.

When paired with an accident/illness insurance plan for your dog, you’ll receive complete protection and the ultimate peace of mind. This comes in handy during these unsettling economic times, and because we never know when an emergency may present itself.

Pumpkin’s Wellness Club is best for new puppy or kitten parents, those with senior dogs, and pet parents who prefer to manage predictable annual care costs. We raise our sparkling water dish to happy, healthy dogs!
