When choosing a wellness club for your dog, here’s what I recommend you look for:

• What is and isn’t covered: Be clean so you understand if the services covered are ones you use (i.e., exams, vaccines, dental cleanings, parasite prevention).
• Flexibility in vet choice: No one wants to be denied club benefits because their vet isn’t part of the club’s network.
• Start date and waiting periods: Will club benefits kick in right away or is there a waiting period? What about vet wellness visits before the plan? Any retroactive coverage?
• Claim submission process: Is it easy to understand and quick? No one has time for long, boring processes that are confusing and tedious. 
• Extra perks and bonuses: If having access to a veterinary hotline is essential, this is something to consider.
• Cost vs savings: Compare the monthly fee to your average yearly vet care cost to see if you will save money.

Cons

• Annual coverage caps for each service category with a maximum reimbursement amount.
• Upfront payment is required with your veterinarian at the time of service.
• Does not include accident or illness coverage, as this is a preventative care offering.
• Limited to the United States and Canada.
• The monthly fee may not pay for itself if your dog is low-maintenance or doesn’t use the covered benefits.
