Decorating with Fresh Blue Hydrangeas for Summer

One of my favorite things about summer is the beautiful fresh hydrangeas that grow in our backyard. We were lucky enough to inherit some gorgeous full grown plants when we moved in almost 8 years ago and they have rewarded me every year with blooms. A couple of years ago, a hard spring freeze really zapped them back for that season, but they are back and blooming as pretty as ever this year. I’ve added even more hydrangeas to the backyard, so I hope to always have fresh blue hydrangea blooms to bring inside. I’ll show you what I do with them.

Love that bank of hydrangeas and ferns that were here when we moved in. One of the few things in the backyard we didn’t change and they have really put on a show this year.

This basket is faux hydrangeas with ferns and I’ll share a post on putting that together for you later this week. Welcome! Now that I’ve been to New England, this gives Cape Cod vibes, which I love.

So before they faded too badly in the sun, I went out and cut some fresh stems to bring inside. I kept it pretty simple this year and only did the foyer table, living room coffee table, and the dining room. That feels like enough to me. I always add in some seashells, as those feel like summer to me too. I’m glad I have quite the collection.

It feels so fresh and summery coming in our front door.

I use my collected things over and over again, like this pretty turquoise and gold Italian gilt box I found ages ago at a yardsale and that bamboo easel was also a yardsale find. Adding a pretty little summer oil painting adds a lot fun to me. Here’s a similar easel from Walmart, I have one of these too.

I bought this pretty shell pottery piece in Ocean Springs, Ms. early last year and it’s a gorgeous piece. I filled it with shells.

I just bought a few of those blue limpet shells on Etsy and love them mixed in.

This little oil painting I found on Etsy a few years ago, so just search small oil paintings if you want to find one, usually landscape or coastal is the description I use.

Another new addition to my blooms is this little bamboo glass cylinder for blooms. I couldn’t resist this one and you can find them at that link, the brand is Two’s Company and I like their things.

I love these green bottles I’ve collected and blue hydrangeas are gorgeous in them. I found a cute one here if you’re looking to start a collection.

I don’t do much to change the living room up, but enjoy adding something to the coffee table.

More shells in a real shell and a few more hydrangea blooms is all I do here. That cane vase is one of my faves too. I have 2 of them and they are from Michael’s in 2 different sizes.

Fresh blooms make any space look pretty, don’t they?

Moving to the dining room, I kept it pretty simple in here too.

I added another vintage vase with hydrangea blooms on a pretty burlwood tray that I got last year.

The burlwood tray is from Walmart too and I love it. They have really stepped up their home decor game.

Antique store plates and placemats from Arthur Court. I use these over and over each year and also these bamboo flatware from Amazon, love them on my summer table. Those melamine glasses are a Homegoods find a couple years ago.

And that’s a look at how I decorate for summer using fresh blue hydrangeas from my garden. I wish you all a wonderful summer outdoors enjoying it all. I do enjoy so much about summer, especially the blooms!
