By Lila Chen – Sustainable Living & Beauty Enthusiast

Imagine stepping into a sun-drenched haven where the rugged beauty of the Nevada desert seamlessly blends with sleek, modern lines—organic stone walls echoing the nearby mountains, floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip, and every corner whispering a story of thoughtful, eco-conscious design. That’s the magic of 21 Rockstream Drive in Ascaya, a luxurious Henderson home where Vesta’s visionary team has curated an interior design fusion that feels both grounded in nature and elevated in sophistication. As a 31-year-old eco-beauty blogger who’s swapped out countless zero-waste elements in my Seattle apartment, I get excited about spaces like this that prioritize sustainability without skimping on style. This 6,305-square-foot masterpiece, built in 2023 by Blue Heron and priced at around $8.9 million, isn’t just a house—it’s an invitation to live harmoniously with the environment. Let’s dive into how Vesta curates inside design fusion at 21 Rockstream Drive, Ascaya, and uncover tips to bring that same vibe into your own home.

The Vision Behind Ascaya: A Desert Oasis Community

Nestled in the exclusive Ascaya community in Henderson, Nevada, 21 Rockstream Drive embodies the enclave’s ethos of blending luxury with the natural landscape. Ascaya, known for its custom homesites carved into the McCullough Mountains, offers residents unparalleled privacy and views. This half-acre lot at 21 Rockstream Drive maximizes those assets, with the home’s design prioritizing biophilic elements—think natural light, earthy materials, and indoor-outdoor flow that reduces stress and boosts well-being, as supported by studies from the Environmental Working Group.

What makes this property stand out? Its fusion of desert modern architecture with sustainable touches, creating a sanctuary that’s as functional as it is beautiful. If you’re dreaming of a similar setup, start by incorporating biophilic principles in your space—perhaps with a red light therapy lamp to mimic natural sunlight indoors, enhancing your daily glow-up routines just like I do during rainy Seattle days.

Blue Heron’s Architectural Masterpiece: Form Meets Desert Function

Blue Heron, the architects behind this gem, specialize in biophilic design that integrates the home with its surroundings. At 21 Rockstream Drive, the structure features clean lines, expansive glass walls, and organic forms that echo the desert’s contours. The 5-bedroom, 6-bath layout spans 6,305 square feet, with smart home tech controlling everything from lighting to climate—perfect for energy efficiency.

The backyard oasis steals the show: a resort-style pool, spa, and alfresco kitchen designed for entertaining under the stars. Drawing from my own zero-waste swaps, I love how this setup encourages outdoor living, reducing reliance on indoor AC. To recreate that alfresco vibe at home, consider adding a portable heater for cooler evenings—it’s a staple in my patio setup for year-round use.

Vesta’s Curated Interiors: A Fusion of Styles and Sustainability

Vesta, the full-service interior design studio led by talents like Meghan Campbell and Lisa Vail, brings the “design fusion” to life at 21 Rockstream Drive. They manufacture custom furniture lines, blending mid-century modern with rustic desert elements—think plush seating in neutral tones accented by textured woods and stones that mimic the outdoors.

Sustainability shines through with eco-friendly fabrics and locally sourced materials, creating a home that’s luxurious yet low-impact. The primary suite, for instance, features a spa-like bathroom with natural stone vanities and rainfall showers, promoting that daily self-care ritual I swear by. If you’re inspired, weave in similar fusion by starting with a essential oils diffuser—the one I use to infuse my space with calming scents, turning any room into a retreat.

Biophilic Design Elements: Bringing Nature Indoors

At the core of Vesta’s curation is biophilic design, which connects inhabitants to nature for better mental health. Walls of windows flood the space with light, while indoor plants and water features add tranquility. Research from Byrdie highlights how such elements can improve mood and productivity.

In the kitchen, organic countertops and open shelving encourage mindful cooking—echoing my weekend farmers’ market hauls. To adopt this at home, try a gardening kit for indoor herbs; it’s transformed my apartment into a green oasis.

5 Reasons Why Your Thanksgiving Cactus Is Dropping Leaves http://livelaughlovedo.com/home-decor/5-reasons-why-your-thanksgiving-cactus-is-dropping-leaves-and-how-to-fix-it/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/home-decor/5-reasons-why-your-thanksgiving-cactus-is-dropping-leaves-and-how-to-fix-it/#respond Sat, 22 Nov 2025 09:28:00 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/5-reasons-why-your-thanksgiving-cactus-is-dropping-leaves-and-how-to-fix-it/ [ad_1]

Key Points

  • Keep Thanksgiving cactus soil consistently moist but not wet to prevent leaf drop.
  • Avoid excessive direct sun and place it in a spot with bright, indirect light.
  • Fungal and bacterial diseases cause stems to rot and drop later, so keep an eye on your plant.

Like with all other plants, if your Thanksgiving cactus occasionally drops a couple of leaves, this is normal and nothing to worry about. But if the plant is dropping lots of leaves instead of being lush and thriving, you’ll need to find the cause and take corrective action to enjoy its full beauty during the holiday season.

Here are some reasons why your Thanksgiving cactus may be dropping leaves and what to do to fix it.

Overwatering or Underwatering

Dropping leaves could be a sign that your Thanksgiving cactus is suffering from a lack of water or too much water.

The Thanksgiving cactus is botanically a cactus, but it hails from a rainforest habitat, so it has different water needs than desert cacti. Its soil should be kept consistently moist and never allowed to fully dry out.

However, watering it so much that it becomes waterlogged is equally detrimental.

How to fix it: Adjust your watering routine. If the soil is wet, let the top 1 to 2 inches of soil dry between watering.

To ensure the plant is getting enough water, water slowly and deeply until water drips out of the drainage holes into the saucer below. Empty the saucer so the plant is not sitting in water.

Want more gardening tips? Sign up for our free gardening newsletter for our best growing tips, troubleshooting hacks, and more!

Too Much Direct Sunlight

A Thanksgiving cactus that is exposed to excessive direct sunlight may develop limp leaves. They eventually turn yellow and drop off the plant.

How to fix it: Move the plant to a location with a moderate amount of bright yet indirect light. A place a couple of feet away from a sunny window is ideal.

You can also use a sheer curtain to filter out some of the harsh sunlight. Once it’s in a place with more suitable light conditions, the Thanksgiving cactus will recover.

Temperature Extremes and Low Humidity

In a room that is too cold, too hot, or has low humidity, your Thanksgiving cactus may also drop its leaves.

How to fix it: Thanksgiving cactus does best in daytime temperatures between 70°F and 80°F during the day and 55°F to 65°F at night, as well as high humidity (above 50%).

Keep the plant away from fireplaces, heating, and air-conditions vents, radiators, and drafty locations. If the air in your home is dry, use a humidifier.

Why It’s Called Thanksgiving Cactus

In the United States, the Thanksgiving cactus was named after its bloom time around this major American holiday. In other countries that don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, it is called crab cactus after the claw shape of its leaves.

Diseases

Leaf drop caused by diseases is preceded by other signs of stress. Fungal disease, which is often caused by overwatering or poor drainage, begins with stems rotting at the soil line and moving up the branches. The leaves turn grey-green before dropping.

Bacterial soft rot is a fast-spreading disease that causes branches to turn black and slimy and drop off.

How to fix it: If you catch a fungal disease early, you may be able to just cut off the affected plant parts and let the soil dry out, then adjust your watering routine. Plants with bacterial soft for are beyond salvation and should be thrown in the trash.

Large Plant Size

If you’ve had your Thanksgiving cactus for several years without pruning, it will eventually become so big that it can no longer support the weight of the branches, so they drop.

How to fix it: The recommended time to prune a Thanksgiving cactus is in the spring when new growth starts.

If you have missed that opportunity, pruning it in the fall will likely result in the removal of flower buds, but if the plant is so large that the branches have already started breaking off, it’s better to cut back some of the larger branches to prevent more damage.

What Are Minimalist Interiors?

Minimalist interiors prioritize an uncluttered and organized space. They often incorporate elements like:

  • Neutral color palettes, including whites, grays, and soft earth tones
  • Simple furniture with functional designs
  • Limited decorative items to reduce visual noise
  • Natural light emphasized through large windows or open layouts

By adhering to these principles, minimalist interiors create a serene atmosphere, allowing individuals to focus on what truly matters in their living space.

The Aesthetic of Clean Lines and Functional Spaces

In minimalist design, clean lines play a crucial role. They create a sense of order and elegance, guiding the eye through the space without distraction. Neutral color palettes further enhance this effect, promoting a harmonious environment where each element has its place.

Open spaces are essential as they foster a feeling of freedom and expansiveness. By eliminating clutter, minimalist interiors allow for easy movement and interaction. To achieve this aesthetic, consider incorporating:

  • Furniture that is sleek and unobtrusive
  • Decorative elements that are purposeful and few
  • A layout that encourages flow and functional use of space

Ultimately, the combination of clean lines, neutral colors, and open spaces culminates in a tranquil living environment, making minimalist design highly appealing.

I can hardly believe the day is finally here! After months of dreaming, designing, and pouring so much heart into each detail, I’m so excited to finally introduce you to my newest launch — the Cozy Cottage by Liz Marie collection, now available on QVC!

This collection was truly inspired by everything I love most — pieces that bring comfort, charm, and a little sprinkle of nostalgia to your home. I designed each item to feel like a warm hug, a slow morning, or a quiet afternoon spent in a cozy corner — the moments that make home home. Whether you’re styling your kitchen for spring, refreshing your front porch, or looking for timeless pieces to treasure year-round, I hope you fall in love with these cottage-inspired finds just as much as I have.

Let me walk you through each of the pieces in the collection — and I’ll share a few ways I’ve already started using them around our farmhouse!

Part One: For the Heart of the Home

Our homes tell a story, and I wanted to create pieces that add whimsy and warmth to the spaces where we gather most. This little collection is packed with vintage-inspired charm that will make any room feel extra cozy.

  • The Teapot Vase: This sweet ceramic piece was made for fresh blooms and wildflower cuttings, but it’s just as beautiful styled on a shelf or used as a centerpiece. It’s like a little garden party in vase form.
  • The Cabbage Teapot + Cabbage Sugar Bowl & Creamer Set: These are pure joy. A nod to classic English cottage style, they bring so much charm to tea time — or just your everyday coffee ritual. I styled mine on a kitchen tray with a few vintage spoons and a candle… instant cozy.
  • Set of 4 Cabbage Teacups: I couldn’t launch a tea set without including these! Delicate, detailed, and perfect for sipping something warm while curled up with a book. Bonus: they make the cutest display on open shelves.
  • Set of 4 Napkins: Soft, simple, and just the right amount of detail. These linen-blend napkins add a sweet cottage touch to your dining table, whether it’s a quiet breakfast or Sunday dinner with the family.

Part Two: For Your Cozy Corners 🌿

Whether you’re setting up a sunny nook or adding charm to your entryway, these next pieces were made to bring form and function together in the dreamiest way.

  • Vintage Woven Wood Picnic Basket: This might be my favorite piece of the entire collection! Inspired by vintage flea market finds, it’s perfect for spring picnics, blanket storage, or even styled as a decorative piece under a console table. I love layering it with books and a throw for that collected-over-time look.
  • Foldable Bench + Bench Cushion: We designed this bench to be versatile, cozy, and beautiful — all at once. Use it at the foot of the bed, in your mudroom, or even out on the porch. The matching cushion adds a layer of comfort and softness that just feels like home.
  • Double Ball Topiary with Pot: Faux greenery is a forever favorite of mine — and this topiary adds a classic, polished touch without any of the upkeep. I love how it frames a front door or brings life to a mantel or bookshelf.

This launch is more than just a product line — it’s a little extension of my heart. Every piece in the Cozy Cottage collection was thoughtfully designed to bring timeless charm into your home. It’s all about layering beauty with function, and creating that “ahhh, I’m home” feeling we all crave.

So grab a teacup, light a candle, and come browse the full collection now over on QVC! I can’t wait to see how you style these pieces in your homes. My Best Secondhand Furniture Find Ever! http://livelaughlovedo.com/home-decor/my-best-secondhand-furniture-find-ever-deal-of-the-century-thrifty-decor-chick/ Tue, 18 Nov 2025 12:34:29 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/05/26/my-best-secondhand-furniture-find-ever-deal-of-the-century-thrifty-decor-chick/ [ad_1]

When patience pays off! My amazing second hand dining table find.

I love this method of shopping because I can browse at my leisure (usually
right before bed 😂), or if we’re looking for something very specific, it
allows me to “save” a search for specific keywords and/or set up alerts to
notify me of new listings.

There was one big item I’d been looking into for some time. I’ve looked here
and there for years, but more recently the hunt started when I
painted this cane buffet table
earlier this year:
wine color painted buffet

It turned into a pain of a project, but it was all worth it — we LOVE the
end result. That warm wine color is so lovely!

But as often happens, one little change created an itch to make another one.
We’ve had our dining table for seven years and I loved the wood top:

wood planked table black chairs

This post may contain affiliate links for
your convenience.

I may earn a small commission when you make a purchase through links.

But the more farmhouse style tabletop and metal base were not meshing with
the changes I’d made in the room. I’ve been dreaming up ways I could change
out the metal legs, but never moved forward with it because the planked wood
top was what really didn’t fit in.

Plus, it was starting to drive. us. crazy. that we couldn’t push the
upholstered chairs at the ends all the way in.

As time passed, I was envisioning a more traditional table in this space. It
would be nice to have something larger as well.

The dining room is part of our open concept living area. It was labeled as a
“morning room” on our plans and is full of windows and natural light.

It’s not a traditional, stuffy dining room, but I was craving a little bit
of a traditional style in there.

All that to say…I did some research looking into new dining tables —
maybe something with a darker wood tone and a simpler design? Turned legs
with a bit of character, but nothing too fussy.

Um…it’s been a long time since we’ve bought a table I guess, because I
about choked at the prices. Everything remotely similar to what I wanted
(decent quality) was $2000 to $4000.

It was then that I decided I needed to be patient. And stalk Facebook
Marketplace. 🙂

Months later the skies opened up and THE TABLE was on my phone
screen. I poured over the pictures and enlarged all them to study every
detail — it was exactly what I wanted! The size, color and design were all
perfect.

The best part was the price…only $100! I couldn’t even believe it.
It all fell together — I was even able to borrow a truck from a neighbor to
pick it up.

The stain color was perfect in our home. The turned leg design was exactly
what I had envisioned for this room:

turned legs on wood dining table

It’s not in perfect condition, but the imperfections are minor. Most
noticeable were some spots along the sides that were worn off. (You can see
some of them by the chair in the photo above.)

dark wood table nicks in wood

The top has a few spots and scratches, but you really have to look because
of the glossy finish:

There are a few water spots:

water spot dark wood table

I’ve heard that mayonnaise will remove water spots on wood — has anyone
tried this? I’d love to know how it went for you!

The glossy finish on top is the only thing we’ll have to get used to…I
like furniture we don’t have to worry about. We entertain a lot and have a
number of animals, so I don’t want anything too fussy.

But I also don’t mind a lived in look. 🙂 I’m not going to babysit it, and
if we have issues I’ll refinish the tabletop. It has a wood veneer so I
would need to be a little more delicate than normal, but it’s always an
option.

Overall I’m absolutely thrilled with it — I think it is just
gorgeous:

The brand name Hooker was on the underside of the table so it isn’t as old
as I thought — only from 2019! But get this…I looked up the
product number and it’s the
Tynecastle dining table
and is still available for more than $1700!

The sweet woman who sold it to us just wanted it gone, as they are moving
out west and building a house in the middle of the mountains. It sounds
absolutely amazing and I wish I could friend her to follow along on their
adventures! 😁

I literally just happened upon my best secondhand find ever!

Tynecastle Hooker table review

Our old table was around 80 inches long, and I was feeling like we could go
quite a bit bigger in here. The table as is runs the same length, but a bit
wider.

But with the two leaves added, it can go as long as 114 inches. We have one
leaf in and with that it’s 96 inches long. It fits this room so much
better!:

wood table with upholstered chairs

Now we will be able to sit ten people around the table if needed. This will
be wonderful when we have a house full of people at parties and especially
at Thanksgiving.

The quality isn’t quite as good as my other ones, but it’s still
a beautiful rug and is holding up well. The price for a large rug is hard to
beat!

I purchased it about a month after painting the console and the colors work
so beautifully together. I LOVE the rug with the dark table:

Reseda rug Joon Loloi

I feel like there’s nice balance in here…I didn’t want the room to get too
fussy.

large pendant light dining room

I’ve always added character to our home with DIY projects, but over the past
year or so I’ve been leaning into adding it with furniture too.

neutral dining room wood table

And here it is a year later with richer accent colors and wood tones:

warm dining room design wood table

The rainy days we’ve had lately made for the perfect moody vibe in here!
🙂

I have a few smaller updates I’d like to make to the built in and window
seat, and I’ll share those soon. Would you paint the built ins around the
window the same color as the room, or leave it white? I go back and forth on
that!
