So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. What’s the best thing about rainy days?

Hmm, for me it’s a mix of things with one of them being the clean scent of the air after it rains. And back in the day I would say puddle stomping with baby Connor. Side note, would you believe she’s almost 10? Anyways, now I think the best thing about rainy days is the chances of wildfires happening are less, which is a big mental relief.

2. Where’s your happy place?

At Lanikai beach in the morning on Oahu. Or in my bed at night, when I know everyone I love is under the same roof. 🙂

3. Can you do any accents?

Well, I’m pretty sure I’ve got “Angry Filipino Mom Speaking American English Mixed with Random Tagalog Words” down pat! HAHAHA! I also used to do a very silly British accent but haven’t in years. Oh, and I can do a California surfer accent decently!

4. What’s a funny little habit that you have?

I always pack too many snacks in my work lunch box. I don’t know why. We have pretty awesome vending machines on campus, and there’s always extra food in the breakroom, so it’s not like I don’t have access to snacks. For some reason, though, I feel so much better knowing that I have a variety of relatively healthy snacks that I know I like to choose from. Or, if someone around me has a rumbly tummy, I like knowing that I’ve got extra food for someone else.

5. Something beauty related that you desperately need to buy?

I’m running low on conditioner. When you have long, wavy hair, this is a very nerve-wracking thing!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

3 Best LED Masks for Acne Our Editors Swear By http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/3-best-led-masks-for-acne-our-editors-swear-by/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/3-best-led-masks-for-acne-our-editors-swear-by/#respond Tue, 14 Oct 2025 06:00:47 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/14/3-best-led-masks-for-acne-our-editors-swear-by/ [ad_1]

You can also opt for the Pro Kit, which includes microdart serum patches that deliver ingredients like green tea and niacinamide directly into the breakout, serving as a post-LED power-up to calm and treat stubborn spots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does LED light help with acne?

LED light therapy masks can be an effective way to treat acne, especially when they combine blue, red, and near-infrared wavelengths. “Blue light penetrates the upper layers of skin and kills P. acnes bacteria—think of it like a bouncer at a club, kicking out the troublemakers before they cause chaos,” says Dr. Gohara. “Red light goes deeper to calm inflammation and promote healing by boosting collagen and circulation. Near-infrared light reaches even further to support long-term skin repair and soothing.”

According to Dr. Levy, these devices are particularly effective in treating inflammatory acne, including cystic and hormonal breakouts. “Blue light helps by reducing inflammation and targeting Cutibacterium acnes, the bacteria that contribute to acne formation,” she says. “Red light is particularly effective for calming redness and reducing post-inflammatory erythema—the lingering red marks that can stick around long after a pimple is gone.” However, she notes that light therapy is generally not effective for comedonal acne, like blackheads and whiteheads.

Together, these light wavelengths target both the root causes and visible aftereffects of breakouts, making LED masks a smart option for managing mild to moderate inflammatory acne.

How often do people need to use an LED mask to see results?

To see the best results from an LED mask, “consistent use is key,” says Dr. Gohara. “Most people need to use LED devices 3–5 times a week for several weeks to see improvement — think of it like going to the gym for your skin.” While results can last, she notes that maintenance is essential to keep breakouts at bay. “Once-daily short sessions usually suffice; this isn’t a ‘more is better’ situation.” If you’re hoping for long-term benefits, stick to a regular routine.

What are the downsides to LED therapy?

Results often take weeks of consistent use, and the devices can be pricey. Mild side effects like temporary redness or dryness can occur, especially if you overdo it, so make sure to follow up with a good moisturizer. “Before starting any LED treatment, it’s always wise to consult your dermatologist,” Noah Gratch, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York, NY, previously told Allure. Those who might avoid LED acne treatments “include people with deeper skin tones, certain conditions like melasma, sensitive skin, or those taking Accutane for acne,” he says.

  • Mona Gohara, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Hamden, Connecticut

  • Lauren L. Levy, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at Lewis Dermatology Associates based in New York City

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best LED masks for acne, we considered each product’s performance across four primary categories: product ingredients, efficacy, product wear, and value. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the “best” for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

43 Things So Good At Their Jobs That You’ll Fall In Love With Them After First Use http://livelaughlovedo.com/entertainment/43-things-so-good-at-their-jobs-that-youll-fall-in-love-with-them-after-first-use/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/entertainment/43-things-so-good-at-their-jobs-that-youll-fall-in-love-with-them-after-first-use/#respond Thu, 09 Oct 2025 11:34:12 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/09/43-things-so-good-at-their-jobs-that-youll-fall-in-love-with-them-after-first-use/ [ad_1]

Check out a TikTok of the E.l.f. tubing mascara in action.

I can confirm that it STAYS put on my lashes until I want it gone. (Even the best of waterproof mascaras make me look like a raccoon after a few hours.) Then, it’s super easy to remove the “tubes” with a few gentle swipes. I’ll be buying this stuff again and as long as they make it.

Here’s Emma Lord‘s review that convinced me:

“I am not a new human to the tubing mascara game, and in fact readily spent $26 on the famous OG blend from Blinc every time it needed replacing. I didn’t even love it for the length half as much as the fact that tubing mascara like this genuinely never smudges, but can I just say — regardless of price, the E.l.f. tubing mascara formula blows all the others I’ve tried out of the water. It gives me way more length and volume than other brands, slides on so much more easily, stays put ALL day, and never, ever smudges. My favorite part, though, is how gently and easily it comes off with soap and water. In the past, other mascara removals have felt rough on my lashes, but this comes off so fast that I’m like ??? was I even wearing mascara a minute ago?? Anyway, I hesitate even writing this review because I want to gatekeep the hell out of this before it sells out, but the world needed to know. I’m a big fan of the brown shade (which is what I’m wearing above!), but it also comes in black and soft black.”

Get it from Amazon for $7 (available in three shades).

The Korean approach to treating anything, from acne to fine lines, always focuses on hydrating, calming ingredients, and respecting the skin barrier. For that reason, you can often find active ingredients like niacinamide, green tea, hyaluronic acid, and Centella asiatica (a.k.a. cica) in Korean beauty products, Claire Chang, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at New York City’s Union Square Dermatology, previously told Allure.

If this all sounds appealing to you, you’re not alone. Korean skin-care brands have long upped the standards for the global beauty industry—and if we’re being honest, our standards as well. Double-cleansing has forever changed our skin (and the state of our pores), and Korean sunscreen formulas are second to none. Get comfortable because we gathered the most innovative, price-efficient, and all-around best Korean skin-care products to incorporate into your routine. Ready for glass-like skin? Dive right in.

Made with 14 nourishing plant oils (including soybean, jojoba, argan, and sunflower), it delivers a boost of hydration while effortlessly dissolving stubborn waterproof makeup. The lightweight formula emulsifies beautifully, gliding across your skin and gently removing makeup, even around delicate areas like the eyes.

“Oil cleansing for a few minutes every single night has taken my skin from good to great. When my pores are particularly clogged, I can physically feel the sebum and dirt coming out after rubbing a couple pumps of this gentle formula into my skin. It’s the only reason my facialists are always telling me there’s no need for extractions.” —Nicola Dall’Asen, senior news editor

Best Cleansing Balm: Dr.Althea Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm

Dr. Althea

Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm

Commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann washing her face with the Dr. Althea Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm

Sarah Hoffmann

Why it’s worth it: Why dip your fingers into a pot of product when you can buy Dr.Althea’s Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm, which features one of our favorite dispensers, possibly ever? It twists up, “shaving” the balm into petal-like sheets, so you can easily keep track of how much you’re actually using. Design aside, our editors love that this sensitive-skin-friendly formula is soothing, thanks to madecassoside and Centella asiatica extract (cica).

Tester feedback from Allure commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann

“My main metric for cleansing balms are how easily they remove makeup (specifically eye makeup) and how soft my skin feels afterwards Dr. Althea’s Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm checks both of those boxes. The formula emulsifies so well and melts mascara, eyeliner, and the rest off like a total dream. My skin feels baby smooth and perfectly soft every time I use it. Plus, the grinder dispensing method means no searching for an applicator spoon and no dipping my hands into a pot of product (something I’ve always found semi-gross). Genius.”

  • Key ingredients: madecassoside, Centella asiatica (cica) extract
  • Who it’s for: everyone
  • Fragrance-free: yes

Best Foaming Cleanser: Etude House SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser

Etude House

SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser

Commerce editor Sarah Han washing her face with the Etude House SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: Once you’ve used an oil-based cleanser to break down oil-based products, follow with a water-based formula, such as Etude House’s ultra-gentle SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser. The entire Soon Jung line is formulated to have a pH of 6.5, a touch more basic than our skin’s natural pH of 5.5. This prevents skin from feeling tight, stripped, or otherwise uncomfortable. Bonus: This fragrance-free, hypoallergenic foam also contains madecassoside (derived from cica) to repair skin damage and panthenol for deep hydration.

Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han

“This airy foam is so satisfying to use and I love how gentle it is—it is, after all, fragrance-free—especially after I’ve gone to town breaking down my makeup with a cleansing balm or oil. It’s a safe cleansing bet for anyone, especially sensitive skin.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

  • Key ingredients: madecassoside, panthenol, green tea extract
  • Who it’s for: everyone
  • Fragrance-free: yes

Best Gel Cleanser: Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Face Cleanser

Cosrx

Low pH Good Morning Gel Face Cleanser

Han using Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: For a cleanser that suits the needs of combination, oily, and acne-prone skin, you can’t go wrong with Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Face Cleanser. Tea tree oil and beta hydroxy acid (BHA) dive into pores, sweeping away pollutants, dirt, and oil for a deeper cleanse—ultimately, your skin will feel softer and smoother. Primrose oil balances exfoliation with hydration, so your skin is prepped for your subsequent products. And fear not about stripping your skin because this cleanser’s pH hovers around 5.3 to 6.3.

“I love using this cleanser on days when I’m wearing an all-out makeup look. My combination skin acculumates a lot of gunk in my T-zone so I appreciate something like this that will make sure every last inkling of makeup is gone and refresh my pores. I’m not the biggest fan of the medicinal-leaning scent but I can forgive that for something that’s being promptly washed off. It’s a long-standing favorite for a reason, a.k.a. a clean-as-heck face.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

  • Key ingredients: tea tree oil, BHA, primrose
  • Who it’s for: people with oily, acne-prone, and combination skin

Best Powder Cleanser: Tirtir Hydro Boost Enzyme Powder Wash

Tirtir

Hydro Boost Enzyme Cleansing Powder

Allure contributor Sarah Y. Wu using the Tirtir Hydro Boost Enzyme Cleansing Powder

Sarah Y. Wu

Why it’s worth it: Enzymes exfoliate your skin by dissolving dead skin cells—but only on the surface level, so there’s less potential for irritation. Tirtir’s travel-friendly Hydro Boost Enzyme Cleansing Powder, infused with enzymes, probiotics, and mild PHA, is a dry powder that activates when you wet it. Formulated as a true cleanser (not a face scrub), it foams into a milky cleanser with just a few drops of water. Rice extract and probiotics help keep your skin moisturized, and while it’s designed to clear buildup and refine pores, it does so with especially gentle ingredients that work for a wide range of skin types.

Tester feedback from Allure contributor Sarah Y. Wu

“I have combination skin that’s very dry and sensitive in my midface, but prone to excess oil and blackheads in my T-zone. I usually take a very targeted approach to exfoliants and make sure they only touch my T-zone to avoid irritating the rest of my face. But this cleanser is so gentle, I’ve found that it also works great as an allover face wash and exfoliant in one. Most powder cleansers I’ve used in the past turn into a sort of gritty paste texture when I wet them. Not this one! It transforms into a creamy, super smooth foam as soon as I add water. It doesn’t feel like a face scrub; instead, the powdered enzymes lightly exfoliate and clear my pores so that my face feels baby-soft when I rinse it off.” —Sarah Y. Wu, Allure contributor

  • Key ingredients: rice extract, enzymes, probiotics, PHA, mung bean powder
  • Who it’s for: normal, oily, combination, sensitive, and acne-prone skin
  • Fragrance-free: yes

Best Hydrating Toner: I’m From Rice Toner

Han applying I’m From Rice Toner

Sarah Han

Antioxidants like vitamin E and ferulic acid protect against environmental damage and stabilize other ingredients, while adenosine supports skin repair and barrier health, and niacinamide perks up your complexion. All skin types can benefit from this ultra-lightweight toner, day and night.

“A hydrating toner or essence is a non-negotiable step of my daytime and nighttime routines. I’m From Rice Toner instantly plumps my skin, giving it a brighter, refreshed look and prepping it for the serums, moisturizers, and sunscreens to follow. Now that we’re in the office four days a week, I can’t be bothered to wear makeup every day—but at least my skin looks nice and glowy.”

  • Key ingredients: rice extract, adenosine, niacinamide
  • Who it’s for: everyone, especially those with sensitive skin
  • Fragrance-free: yes

Best Exfoliating Toner: Innisfree Gentle Retinol Salicylic Daily Toner Pads

Innisfree

Gentle Retinol Salicylic Daily Toner Pads

Allure contributing commerce writer Christa Joanna Lee applying Innisfree Gentle Retinol Salicylic Daily Toner Pads

Christa Joanna Lee

Why it’s worth it: Toner pads are ubiquitous in Korean skin care. They’re easy to use, pack a concentrated amount of actives, and can double as a sheet mask—what’s not to love? Innisfree’s Gentle Retinol Salicylic Daily Toner Pads star, as you can guess, retinol and salicylic acid, to sweep away pore-clogging debris and even out texture. The key, however, is the green tea soothing complex, cica, and allantoin, which minimize irritation and strengthen your barrier. To put it simply, these swipe-and-go pads strike the ideal balance between exfoliation and hydration.

“I’ve been a fan of Innisfree’s Green Tea Enzyme Vitamin C Toner Pads for a while—they’re gentle yet brightening, and pair perfectly with my morning SPF routine. The K-beauty brand is well known for their sensitive skin-friendly formulas, so I knew the Gentle Retinol Salicylic Daily Toner Pads wouldn’t freak out my skin. These retinol pads were (believe it or not) my first foray into retinol, and after two weeks of nightly use, I noticed my skin texture start to smooth out. Even though I don’t deal with breakouts, the combo of gentle retinol and salicylic acid made a visible difference in softer, more even skin.” —Christa Joanna Lee, contributing commerce writer

Cosrx

Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Han applying the Coxrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: A Korean beauty best-seller that’s all over your FYP and actually worth the hype it’s garnered? That’s Cosrx’s Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. This mega-hydrator is chock-full of, you guessed it, snail mucin to soothe blemishes, brighten acne scars, and even out hyperpigmentation. While the gooey stuff accounts for 96% of the formula, you’ll also find hyaluronic acid and allantoin to hydrate and strengthen the skin barrier, making it a great option if you’re after the glass-skin look.

“This is one of the first viral K-beauty products I tried all those (8ish?) years ago. While it fell off my radar for a while, I’ve been recently reminded how lovely and hydrating this formula is. The texture is so fun (and surprisingly not tacky seconds after applying) and it gives my skin lots of glow and bounce. I don’t deal with a lot of blemishes and acne scars (knock on wood) but this is a really a star in that realm, especially when coupled with acne-targeting serums.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

  • Key ingredients: snail mucin, hyaluronic acid, allantoin

Best Vitamin C Serum: Dr. Althea Vitamin C Boosting Serum

Dr. Althea Vitamin C Boosting Serum in glass bottle on light grey background

Dr. Althea

Vitamin C Boosting Serum

Why it’s worth it: Vitamin C has long been considered one of the gold-standard ingredients for brightening, as it decreases melanin formation, and subsequently, dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Dr. Althea is a rising star in the K-beauty world, and no product encompasses that as well as the Vitamin C Boosting Serum. (Okay, fine, the 365 Relief Cream is super popular, too.) This silky serum harnesses the power of Hippophae rhamnoides water (63%), otherwise known as sea buckthorn, which is rich in vitamin C—and extra gentle, to boot. But, if you’re extremely weary of the active, Dr. Althea offers a Gentle Vitamin C Serum with 20% Hippophae rhamnoides water. Also in the mix is 2% tranexamic acid, which is another rockstar ingredient for fading dark spots. TL;DR: Brighter, more even-toned skin ahead.

“I surprisingly haven’t discovered many Korean vitamin C serums I like but Dr. Althea’s is the exception. A true gem. The silky texture sinks in seamlessly with no greasy residue and, equally important, the scent is actually fresh and pleasant. (I can’t deal with anything that smells like ‘hot dog water,’ period.) The packaging isn’t opaque, however, so please keep this bottle away from sunlight to prevent oxidation. (Mine sits safely in my bathroom mirror cabinet.) The main form of vitamin C is 63% hippophae rhamnoides water, a.k.a. sea buckthorn water, which I find to be super soothing. I can’t imagine my a.m. skin-care routine without it!” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

  • Key ingredients: Hippophae rhamnoides water (63%), niacinamide (5%), tranexamic acid (2%), cica
  • Who it’s for: everyone
  • Fragrance-free: yes

Iope

Retinol Super Bounce Serum

Han applying the Iope Retinol Super Bounce Serum

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: If you’re looking to start retinol, the gold-standard ingredient for speeding skin cell turnover and boosting collagen production, but are worried about irritating side effects, we’ve got you. Despite the stacked retinoid lineup, Iope’s Retinol Super Bounce Serum—which is inspired by radio frequency treatments—is extremely gentle because it incorporates encapsulated, time-released retinol as well as granactive retinoid, which doesn’t need to undergo conversions, thus reducing irritation. Best Post-Procedure Serum: Rejuran Healer Turnover Ampoule

Rejuran

Healer Turnover Ampoule

Han applying Rejuran Healer Turnover Ampoule

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: Forget plant stem cells. The primary active ingredient in Rejuran Healer Turnover Ampoule is a growth factor derived from wild salmon, says Julie Chung, MD, cofounder of T3 Micro and board-certified ophthalmologist at Advanced Vision Care in Los Angeles, California, who notes that it’s all the rage in Korea right now. “It can be injected into the skin, but is also thought to be effective topically. It increases skin elasticity, decreases wrinkles, and improves hydration,” Dr. Chung says. “I’ve been using this product for about three weeks now and do feel that my skin is now quite supple—but time will tell if it actually makes my face look more lifted!”

It can be used after laser resurfacing and chemical peels to speed up your recovery and reduce scarring.

  • Key ingredients: blackberry leaf extract, licorice extract, adenosine
  • Who it’s for: anyone who wants to address multiple concerns.

Best Body Wash: Some By Mi AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Acne Body Cleanser

Some By Mi AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Acne Body Cleanser in branded component on a light gray background

Some by Mi

AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Acne Body Cleanser

Why it’s worth it: This isn’t just any body wash—Some By Mi’s AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Body Cleanser is formulated with salicylic, mandelic, and citric acids to unclog pores and smooth uneven texture—ideal for anyone who deals with annoying body acne. While it sounds harsh, given the trifecta of acids involved, it’s surprisingly gentle—a calming trio of tea tree extract, eucalyptus, and truecica minimizes irritation. The same ingredients lend themselves to a refreshing, spa-like herbal scent. To sum it up, this is a necessary addition to your everything shower.

Best Body Lotion: Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream

Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream

Devon Abelman

Why it’s worth it: If Illiyon isn’t already on your radar, allow this all-purpose formula to be your introduction to one of Korea’s top body-care brands. The Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream provides even the most sensitive skin with moisture and irritation relief. The decadent nourishing cream contains barrier-repairing ceramides to help keep your skin feeling hydrated all day long, says board-certified dermatologist Yunyoung Claire Chang, MD. “As we mature, our skin’s ceramide level decreases, so it’s important to replace this [loss] with ceramide-containing skin-care products,” she adds. We also love how you can choose from several sizes, including a travel-friendly tube and a hefty tub.

Tester feedback from contributor Devon Abelman

“My legs are a hot spot for eczema, so I have to be extremely careful about the body-care products I use or I will be up all night scratching at my skin. Illiyoon’s Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream is a no-brainer with its fragrance-free formula that blankets skin in comforting moisture and never annoyingly transfers onto clothes.” —Devon Abelman, contributor

Best Moisturizer for Oily Skin: Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb

Belif

The True Cream Aqua Bomb

Allure senior director of audience development Lexi Herrick applying Belif’s The True Cream Aqua Bomb

Lexi Herrick

Why it’s worth it: An intensely soothing formula that’s perfect for sensitive skin, Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb is powered by a blend of inflammation-fighting tiger grass, oat kernel extract, and comfrey leaf. It provides an instant burst of coolness upon application, but the benefits of skin-plumping glycerin and squalane last for the entire day. This gel-like cream feels like a refreshing drink that skin slurps up, making it great for year-round use, but especially during warmer weather. “During the summer, The True Cream Aqua Bomb’s consistency is a hydrating, lightweight dream come true,” reports one tester. “The gel-like formula absorbs in seconds, leaving skin feeling instantly refreshed.”

Tester feedback from senior director of audience development Lexi Herrick

“Belif’s Aqua Bomb gives me the experience of drinking ice-cold water after being outside in the hot sun—it truly breathes life and hydration into my skin instantly! I love the light and airy texture, like a cloud absorbing into my cheeks. It preps my skin incredibly well for makeup or to wear naturally.”—Lexi Herrick, senior director of audience development

Best Moisturizer for Mature Skin: Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Rejuvenating Cream

Sulwhasoo

Concentrated Ginseng Rejuvenating Cream

Why it’s worth it: Sulwhasoo’s Concentrated Ginseng Rejuvenating Cream contains a proprietary Ginsenomics blend, which features ginseng in the form of saponin, peptides, roots, and flowers to visibly hydrate and lift skin. For the unfamiliar, ginseng is a do-it-all ingredient that addresses fine lines and wrinkles by boosting circulation, which then ramps up collagen synthesis, leading to firmer, plumper skin. Ginseng also guards your skin against environmental stressors like free radicals that could lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as dark spot-causing pollutants, as explained by New York City-based board-certified dermatologist Shari Marchbein, MD.

Ginseng’s gentle profile makes it a great option for beneath the eyes. David Kim, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at Idriss Dermatology in New York City, says that Concentrated Ginseng Rejuvenating Eye Cream is ideal for anyone who needs extra hydration around their eye area.

  • Key ingredients: ginseng peptides, squalane, Korean ginseng actives, vitamin C derivative
  • Who it’s for: mature or very dry skin
  • Fragrance-free: no

Best Retinol Eye Cream: Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal

Beauty of Joseon

Revive Eye Serum

Han applying Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: One of the buzziest K-beauty products, full-stop, is Beauty of Joseon’s Revive Eye Cream Ginseng + Retinal, whose fans include board-certified dermatologist Hee Jin Koh, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New Jersey, and cosmetic chemist Ramón Pagán. “I love the ultra-nourishing and soothing formula with the added (gentle) kick of retinal,” Pagán tells Allure. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginseng help minimize puffiness, while liposome-encapsulated (and therefore stabilized) retinal brightens and smooths. According to Dr. Koh, retinal “only requires a one-step conversion to the active form of retinoic acid, unlike retinol, which requires a two-step conversion.” In other words, it’s more effective and less irritating than your traditional retinol.

“As a big fan of an ultra-dewy look, I typically shy away from stick formulas of any type, since I find a lot of them to be a bit too drying. This multi-use stick (which I primarily use for blush) gives me that glowy finish I’m perpetually seeking, with a creamy formula that’s easy to blend in, but doesn’t melt away after an hour.” —Kara McGrath, content director

Best Multipurpose: Nars The Multiple

Allure senior commerce editor Sarah Felbin applying the Nars The Multiple

Sarah Felbin

Why we love it: Nars’s The Multiple got a glow-up, with a new and improved formula so good that we gave it a Best of Beauty Award this year. Think: longer wear time (up to 16 hours, according to the brand) and a cream-to-powder texture that’s not too thick or sticky. Along with the brand’s iconic Orgasm shade, The Multiple comes in 11 other colors that range from peach to berry tones—ideal for mixing, matching, and layering together. Hydrating peach kernel oil helps this blush go on smoothly, but it dries down to a blurred finish that doesn’t budge (even after hours of wear, according to one Allure editor). If your makeup philosophy is “set it and forget it,” this might be for you.

“I’m not usually a fan of blush sticks—on me, they tend to go patchy and don’t mesh well with the rest of my base makeup. The Multiple is so different (and so much better!). It blends out in seconds (I like to apply it with a brush, but fingers work too) and has a soft finish that’s really lovely. It doesn’t look streaky or patchy, and the end result is a light flush of color that you can build up to your desired look. Plus, it lasts all day long—I don’t even need to set it with a powder blush on top. Dolce Vita is my perfect pink, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the shades (especially since you can use them on your eyes and lips, too). ” —Sarah Felbin, senior commerce editor

Best for “No-Makeup Makeup:” Violette_FR Bisou Blush

Allure commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann applying Violette_FR’s Bisou Blush

Sarah Hoffmann

Why we love it: The brainchild of Parisian makeup artist Violette, Violette_FR Bisou Blush melts into your skin for an (almost) effortless, natural-looking flush. There are six marbled shades to choose from that look as beautiful on skin as they do in the tube, including neutral beige Louise (pictured here) and Aïssa, a pink for darker skin tones. “You can tell a makeup artist made these,” says makeup artist Kirin Bhatty. “The shades are thoughtfully chosen and are perfect for those who love a ‘no-makeup-makeup’ look.”

More to love: The addition of antioxidant-packed ginger root extract and candelilla wax, an emollient that helps protect your skin barrier. You’ll also dig the soft-but-sturdy, detachable brush at the bottom for easy on-the-go blending.

“When it comes to shade curation, very few brands can touch Violette_FR IMO. You’re not going to find a one-note bubblegum pink blush here—instead, you’re going to find a nuanced, perfectly dusty pink that makes you feel like the most effortless-yet-put-together version of yourself. Louise is my personal favorite of these blushes, but you truly can’t go wrong. The finish is glowy but not glossy and it builds up beautifully, so it pairs perfectly with a full face of makeup or barely-there concealer and mascara.” —Sarah Hoffmann, commerce producer

Best for Dry Skin: Rhode Pocket Blush

Sarah Han applying Rhode Pocket Blush in Toasted Teddy

Sarah Han

Why we love it: A proud member of the Rhode family, Hailey Bieber’s Pocket Blush became an instant Allure-editor favorite—and for good reason. The petite, pocket-size profile makes it easy to tote around and allows for targeted application, depositing silky-smooth pigment every time. Lightweight and hydrating, it comes in 11 shades you can apply directly onto your lips and cheeks, then gently blend out with a finger or brush. For added shine on your lips, top it off with the brand’s viral Peptide Lip Treatment.

“Beyond how uber cute these blushes are, they’re so buttery and easy to blend out. I actually like to use my fingers to dab the product in before using a brush to diffuse any harsh lines—but, in a pinch, just fingers also do the trick. If I want to build up the pigment (which I usually do), I’ll go in with a second layer by picking up some product directly with my brush and lightly tapping it in. Extra buildable? Heck yeah. They also come in the prettiest colors. I’d normally never reach for a bronze terracotta (I lean heavily into pinks) but Toasted Teddy just has that ‘je ne sais’ quoi factor.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Best Sheer: Milk Makeup Cooling Water Jelly

Milk Makeup

Cooling Water Jelly Tint

Allure managing editor Alessandra Foresto applying Milk Makeup’s Cooling Water Jelly

Alessandra Foresto

Why we love it: Milk’s Cooling Water Jelly looks good enough to eat—but please, don’t. The yummy vibes are only outdone by the sheer, long-lasting flush this stick delivers, along with an instantly cooling feel. “The cooling is from the release of water upon pressing,” says cosmetic chemist Ginger King. “Also, the inclusion of aloe vera with humectants like glycerin, sorbitol, and polysaccharides with polymers can enhance that effect.” Makeup artist Sara Wren suggests using a brush with this one “[because it] allows you to build up the watercolor-like pigment and gives a more precise application.” Since it’s technically a stain and sets quickly, we recommend working quickly.

“Call me skeptical! I don’t normally trust jelly blushes to be longlasting and opt for cream blushes instead, but this bouncy gelatinous blush (saying that as a compliment, not a criticism) gives my cheeks a sheer and dewy color that actually stays put all day (I like the shade Berry). I also had my doubts on the cooling claims on this stick’s name, and was once again proven wrong. At application, you do get a cooling and refreshing feel that I actually wish lasted longer than a few seconds.” —Alessandra Foresto, managing editor

Why we love it: Feeling low-key luminosity, or would you rather turn it up a notch? Take your pick with Charlotte Tilbury’s Unreal Lip + Cheek Glow Blush Stick, which has a sheer finish that blends and layers seamlessly if you want more of a pop, making it the best buildable option out there. What also sets it apart is the pearlescent pigment, which gives skin a soft-focus glow—think highlighter, but rosier.

To use on skin while preventing irritation, simply apply a generous layer of water-based serum, place your index finger on the glass tube, turn the device on, touch the glass tube’s tip to your skin, then remove your finger and glide the tube across your skin. It’s recommended to limit sessions to a maximum of two minutes twice per week. And bonus! This comes with FOUR different attachments: a spot tube for targeting individual areas, a mushroom tube to treat broad areas like the forehead, cheeks, and jawline, a tongue tube for the areas around your eyes and nose, *and* a comb tube you can use on your scalp to promote lush, healthy-looking hair.

See what this user has to say after doing a three-day test on it in this TikTok.

Promising review: “I wish I had discovered this before my mid-40s because it may actually be a miracle device. I’ve had hormonal acne for years, and it makes me so very self-conscious. When I say I have tried everything, I mean everything: numerous dermatologist recommendations, microdermabrasion, regular facials, all the gimmicks out there. Then I bit the bullet and got this. Y’ALL. Y’all! You will think I’m lying, but I am absolutely not. Three days of using this device and my acne is almost gone, my rosacea is getting better, and I plan to start using it on my wrinkles next since it’s doing so well on the acne! MAGICAL. If you’re on the fence, buy it.” —Emily H.

This Soap-Free Cleansing Bar Is So Good, I Waited Months For It To Come Back In Stock

(And Now I’m Stockpiling 20 Bars So I Never Run Out Again)

Picture this: It’s January 2025. My skin is in full winter rebellion — flaky, red, tight, stinging after every wash. I’d cycled through every “gentle” liquid cleanser on the market, but nothing worked. My barrier was destroyed. I was one shower away from looking like a lobster.

Then a dermatologist on TikTok mentioned the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar in passing. I laughed. A bar? Like old-school soap? No thanks.

But I was desperate. Ordered three bars on Amazon… and immediately understood why people hoard this thing like it’s toilet paper in 2020.

Within three days my skin stopped screaming. Within two weeks it looked calm, plump, actually dewy — in the dead of winter. No more tight, shiny-from-dryness forehead. No more flaky patches around my nose. Just… normal, happy skin.

Then disaster struck.

April 2025: Out of stock everywhere. Amazon? Gone. Target? Empty shelf with a sad “temporarily unavailable” sign. Walmart? Laughs in my face. Even the CeraVe website had it grayed out for MONTHS.

I checked daily like a psycho. Set restock alerts on three apps. Joined Reddit threads where people were panic-buying 12-packs and reselling them for double (I almost paid $80 for six bars… almost).

Finally, October 2025 — it’s BACK. And I bought 20 bars. Yes, twenty. They’re lined up in my linen closet like precious bricks of gold.

Here’s exactly why this $5 bar is worth losing your mind over.

Amazon.com : CeraVe Hydrating Cleansing Bar 4.5 oz (Pack of 8 …

First: Why Traditional Soap Is The Enemy (And Why This Bar Is Different)

Regular soap has a pH of 9–10. Your skin’s natural pH is 4.5–5.5. That gap? It’s why soap leaves you feeling “squeaky clean” but actually strips your acid mantle, destroys your moisture barrier, and makes your skin produce more oil to compensate (hello acne + dryness combo).

The CeraVe bar is a syndet (synthetic detergent) bar with a neutral pH (~7 but balanced with hydrating ingredients so it doesn’t disrupt your barrier). It’s literally developed with dermatologists and accepted by the National Eczema Association.

Translation: It cleans without the collateral damage.

The Ingredients That Make It Magical

This isn’t some basic bar. It contains:

  • 3 Essential Ceramides (NP, AP, EOP) → The building blocks of your skin barrier. Most cleansers strip them. This one adds them back.
  • Hyaluronic Acid → Holds 1000× its weight in water. Plumps skin from the first wash.
  • 5% CeraVe Moisturizing Cream → Yes, the same cream derms recommend for eczema is literally built into the bar.
  • MVE Delivery Technology → Patented slow-release system that keeps hydrating your skin for 24+ hours after you rinse.

Full ingredients list (current as of Dec 2025): Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Water, Sodium Isethionate, Titanium Dioxide, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Potassium Phosphate, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, Carbomer, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cholesterol, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium EDTA, Dipotassium Phosphate, Tocopherol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Petrolatum, Phytosphingosine, Xanthan Gum, Cetyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

No fragrance. No parabens. Non-comedogenic. Perfect for face AND body.

My Skin Transformation (With Real Timeline)

Week 1: Stopped using my old cleanser cold turkey. Immediate difference — no tightness after showering. Skin felt… slippery in a good way? Like it still had its natural oils.

Week 2: Flaky patches around my mouth? Gone. Redness from retinoid use? Calmed by 70%.

Week 4: People started asking if I got filler. My skin looked PLUMP. Like I’d been drinking 4 liters of water a day (I hadn’t).

Month 3 (pre-shortage): I was using it morning and night, even on no-makeup days. My moisturizer absorbed better. My retinol didn’t burn anymore. I was genuinely excited to wash my face.

Then it disappeared from shelves and my skin threw a tantrum for 5 months straight.

Woman Washing Face With Soap Images – Browse 27,801 Stock Photos …

Why It Keeps Selling Out (The 2025 Shortage Explained)

CeraVe blew up even more this year thanks to:

  • TikTok derms calling it “the only cleanser you need in winter”
  • The “skin flooding” trend (everyone layering HA products)
  • Supply chain issues hitting ceramide suppliers

Result? The bar was impossible to find from April to October 2025. Facebook groups had 10k+ members trading restock alerts. One woman in Texas drove 3 hours to a CVS that had 4 bars left.

Now that it’s back, the smart money is stocking up.

How I Use It (The Correct Way — Most People Do This Wrong)

  1. Wet the bar and rub between hands (don’t rub directly on face if you have active breakouts)
  2. Massage the creamy lather onto wet skin for 30–60 seconds
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water (hot water = barrier damage)
  4. Pat dry (never rub)

Pro tips:

  • Use it as your morning cleanse + makeup remover at night
  • Cut the bar in half — lasts longer and travels better
  • Keep it in a draining soap dish or it gets mushy (learned this the hard way)

CeraVe Bar vs Everything Else (Honest Comparison)

Cleanser Price per oz Soap-Free? Ceramides? Hydration Level Best For Worth It?
CeraVe Hydrating Bar ~$1.33/oz Yes Yes (3 types) Insane Dry/sensitive/eczema 100000%
Dove Sensitive Beauty Bar ~$0.80/oz Yes (syndet) No Good Budget option Great gateway drug
Sebamed Cleansing Bar ~$3/oz Yes No Moderate Acne-prone If you want pH 5.5 exactly
Drunk Elephant Pekee Bar ~$7/oz Yes No Good Luxury feel Overpriced for what it is
Vanicream Cleansing Bar ~$2/oz Yes No Very good Super reactive skin Close second

The CeraVe wins because it has actual actives that repair your barrier WHILE cleansing. Others just don’t strip — this one improves your skin.

Where to Buy It RIGHT NOW (Dec 2025 Links)

Stock tip: Buy the 3-pack or larger. The single bars sell out first.

Final Verdict

If you have dry, sensitive, eczema-prone, or “mature” skin (hi, 35+ club), this bar will change your life. It did mine.

I waited five months in actual physical discomfort because nothing else compares. My skin literally regressed without it.

Don’t make my mistake. Grab it now while it’s in stock.

Your skin barrier will thank you. Your future self (with plump, calm, happy skin in February) will thank you. And I’ll be over here bathing in my hoard of 20 bars like the crazy person this product turned me into.

Some shine, some shimmer, and some even tingle, but one thing all the best tinted lip balms do is provide equal parts moisture and color. Sure, there are some days when we want ultra-pigmented, matte color, but other days, especially during chillier months, we lean on a barely-there lip balm with a hint of sheen. But don’t fret—tinted lip balm has evolved since its humble Lip Smackers days. Makeup brands ranging from drugstore to prestige have refined ingredient lists to include powerhouse skin-care ingredients (hi, peptides and shea butter) and developed dreamy hues for every skin tone. So, when our dryness stops us from reaching for lipstick, these formulas come to the rescue, replenishing moisture and imparting glowy, our-lips-but-better finishes.

“I’m not a gloss girly, but I’m a sucker for the high-shine finish of Summer Fridays’ Lip Butter Balm. A lot of lip balms talk the talk, but leave my lips dry within the hour—but this formula feels like it not only sits pretty on my lips but actually lends long-lasting hydration. Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment

Allure former shopping market editor Angela Trakoshis applying Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment in Creme Brulee

Angela Trakoshis

Why it’s worth it: Our editors can’t get enough of Ole Henriksen’s Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment, which explains the 2024 Allure Best of Beauty Award winner seal. Derms approve of the star ingredient (two types of peptides) when it comes to all skin, including the lips. “Peptides are effective for enhancing lip appearance by boosting collagen production, which helps keep lips firm and smooth,” Nicole Lee, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and owner of Epoch Dermatology in Garden City, New York, explained. “They also improve hydration, making lips plump and well-moisturized, and reduce the appearance of fine lines while supporting overall repair.”

Also contributing to the plumping, fuller-looking effect are kokum butter, mango seed butter, and cloudberry oil—a recipe for smooth-gliding, juicy success, if you ask us. What also doesn’t hurt: Ole Henriksen’s balms smell utterly delicious. Hello, creme brulee? Strawberry sorbet? We need one of each.

“I have one of these in every bag, in my car, and pretty much everywhere I frequent. That’s how much I love them. It’s a mix of skin care meets makeup—the peptides hydrate, the butters moisturize, and the pigment is comparable to some of my favorite lip glosses on the market.” —Angela Trakoshis, former shopping market editor

Best “My Lips But Better” Shades: Clinique Almost Lipstick in Pink Honey

Clinique

Almost Lipstick in Pink Honey

Allure senior commerce editor Sarah Felbin applying the Clinique Almost Lipstick in Pink Honey

Sarah Felbin

Why it’s worth it: First launched back in 1971, the sheer formula of Clinique’s Almost Lipstick has yet again returned to the spotlight, thanks to Gen Z’s obsession with the shade Black Honey, which won a 2023 Best of Beauty Award. The shade lineup has since expanded to feature Nude Honey and Pink Honey, which, as you can assume, is a pinkier version of its darker sibling. What has stayed the same, though, is the featherlight wash of color and texture—infused with castor seed oil, candelilla wax, and vitamin E for comfortable wear with each application (and reapplication).

“When the classic Black Honey feels too dark and vampy, I reach for Pink Honey instead. The color is the perfect ‘my lips, but better’ shade—it adds just the right amount of color. And the thicker texture feels super nourishing on my lips, compared to a thinner gloss.” —Sarah Felbin, senior commerce editor

Best Exfoliating: Eadem Le Chouchou Exfoliating + Softening Peptide Lip Balm

Eadem

Le Chouchou Exfoliating + Softening Peptide Lip Balm

Allure commerce editor Sarah Han applying Eadem Le Chouchou Exfoliating + Softening Peptide Lip Balm in Bissap Glaze

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: Lips aren’t usually the first thing that comes to mind when you think “exfoliating,” but Eadem’s Le Chouchou Lip Balm is here to change that. Think of this lip-cocooning treatment as an ultra-fancy exfoliating chapstick. With hibiscus enzymes and lactic acid, it buffs away that crusty, dusty layer of dryness to reveal a juicier pout. “Anyone with dry, peeling lips or anyone looking for exfoliation would like this formula, which has alpha hydroxy acids and peptides that help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and plump the skin in the lips,” Corey L. Hartman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Alabama, previously explained. Oh, and about that tint: It comes in eight glossy shades (plus one clear), all deliciously smooth and glossy.

“It took me long enough to try this beloved lip balm but the wait was worth it because I get the hype. Le Chouchou is thick and cushiony (moreso than I expected) and feels more conditioning than my other lip balms, and the fact that there are chemical exfoliants baked into the formula takes them straight to S-tier lip balms. My lips flake pretty easily but now I can treat them during the daytime, instead of only relying on a lip mask at night. My lips feel instantly smooth and the color range is fab, too. I’m a sucker for berry hues like Bissap Glaze but will definitely be reaching for Guava Fresca on minimal makeup days,” Sarah Han, commerce editor

Best for Lip Lines: Kosas Wet Stick

Allure shopping director Shanna Shipin applying the Kosas Wet Stick in Malibu

Shanna Shipin

Why it’s worth it: We know Kosas’s Wet Stick is technically a lipstick, but its ultra-moisturizing feel and sheer pigment lean much more balm than conventional lipstick. This lineup of 12 shades has a nude and pink for all skin tones, but our editors love that this balmy lipstick runs deeper than tint. We love swiping on its slightly slippery, lightweight formula for its barely-there feel and conditioning results. Speaking of its formula, it contains the hydration works: squalane, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and firming peptides, to be exact.

“The glide on a Kosas Wet Stick is unparalleled—you truly have to try it out to understand just how smooth, creamy, and (yes!) pigmented this balm is. Part of the reason I have so many (somewhere in the realm of a half-dozen) is the luxe experience of application. While there isn’t incredible staying power, in true Kosas fashion, the stick is infused with skin-loving ingredients like ceramides and squalane that hydrate and moisturize, leaving my lips feeling protected—and naturally amped up. I also love the shade range with Wet Stick; there’s everything from neutral mauves to totally moody browns.” —Shanna Shipin, shopping director

Best Buildable: Violette_FR Bisou Jelly

Allure commerce producer Sarah Hoffman applying Violette_FR Bisou Jelly in Aïssa

Sarah Hoffmann

Why it’s worth it: Here’s a quick, unprompted French lesson: “Bouche mordue” means just-bitten lips. That’s the vision Violette Serrat (Violette_FR’s founder) had when creating these extra-juicy lipstick-balm hybrids, otherwise known as Bisou Jelly. The texture lives up to its name, and then some, in case you have doubts. The outer jelly layer acts as a supremely hydrating base, while the vitamin E-infused, deeper-hued core adds a subtle wash of color. No need to be precious about application, either—it’s oh-so buildable, almost to a fault. Position the jelly ring right above your lip line for a cute, fuller, but never obvious effect.

“To some extent, I think this is the lip product I’ve been looking for for my entire life. It is far and away the easiest method of achieving the French blurred lip look I’ve ever found, and for that reason, it will simply never leave my purse again. I like to get really haphazard with the application—the messier you are, the prettier it looks, I swear—so the pigment in the center and the balm on the outside really get mixed together on my lips.” —Sarah Hoffman, commerce producer

“I recently went to an event with Hard Candy to scout out its relaunch—in case you didn’t know, it was a popular drugstore brand in the ‘90s—and I was seriously impressed by the formulas. I tried everything from chubby lip pencils to highlighters, but what I’ve been actually using daily are these Lip Butters. They’re so juicy and refreshing, and offer the perfect topper for my lips, whether I want something clear or slightly tinted. You’d have no idea the tube is less than $10.” —Lily Wohlner, commerce writer

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ingredients are commonly found in tinted lip balms?

Whether tinted or clear, a balm’s main job is to offset dryness and chapping, and to do this, they’re spiked with nourishing ingredients you’re probably familiar with from your skin-care routine. Here are a few of the most common ones:

Hyaluronic acid

This humectant is arguably the most popular hydrator in skin care. Doris Day, MD, a New York City-based board-certified dermatologist, previously told Allure that hyaluronic acid is “great at holding water and giving skin resilience and firmness.” She also noted that, while injecting hyaluronic acid into the deeper layers of the skin will provide the most effective results and help restore lost volume, this ingredient is quite beneficial as a topical. “When used in creams, lotions, and serums, it can also do wonders for rejuvenation and hydration,” she said.

Shea butter

While humectants like hyaluronic acid actually bind water to the surface layer of the skin, emollients like shea butter act as a seal to prevent moisture loss while reducing roughness and flaking. “Shea butter is rich in essential fatty acids, making it an excellent emollient for the skin, helping to simultaneously moisturize and protect against water loss,” Kim Nichols, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Greenwich, Connecticut, previously told Allure. Dr. Nichols added that shea butter is also a great source of vitamins A (also known as retinol) and E, two antioxidants that soothe and soften irritated, dry, and itchy skin. “This combination of powerhouse ingredients makes shea butter an ideal ingredient to help soothe symptoms of common skin-care conditions such as eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis, to name a few,” she says.

Jojoba oil

Despite having “oil” in its name, jojoba oil is relatively lightweight. “Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax, which is why it feels less greasy on skin compared to oils,” cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson and founder of BeautyStat previously told Allure. Unlike most oils, jojoba oil is mainly composed of fatty acids, alcohol, and hydrocarbons. According to Marisa Garshick, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, jojoba oil’s composition is what gives its moisturizing properties a light texture that won’t clog pores as easily as other oils. “It acts as both a humectant to draw moisture in and an emollient that softens and smoothes the skin,” she said.

Peptides

You’ve likely seen a boom in peptide lip treatments, and for good reason. If you’re looking for a (much more subtle) alternative to fillers or Botox, “Peptide lip balms can be effective for improving lip texture and hydration,” Cindy Bae, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City explained. Though the concentration and type of peptides will determine how effective said peptides are, the star ingredient can firm, smooth, plump, and minimize the appearance of lip lines.

What’s the difference between tinted lip balms and lip tints?

They may have similar names, but tinted lip balms focus on moisture replenishment while lip tints and stains provide more potent color. Though not every lip stain can be considered a moisturizing balm, Cincinnati, Ohio-based cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos previously told Allure that, depending on composition, just about any lip product can act as a tint. “The color additives are the primary determinant of whether a color actually stains the lips,” she says. “It’s really about the chemistry of the color additives that contribute to staining, so balms, glosses, and lipsticks can all be lip stains.”
