Understanding Velvet Lips: The Allure of Velvety Lip Textures

When it comes to lip makeup, few trends have captivated beauty enthusiasts quite like velvet lips. This silky, plush finish offers a unique blend of comfort and style that sets it apart from traditional matte or glossy lip products. But what exactly are velvet lips, and why have they become a must-have in our beauty routines? Let’s delve into this trend and discover its charm!

At its core, velvet lips provide a soft-focus finish that combines the rich pigmentation of a lipstick with the lightweight feel of a lip stain. This innovative formula has taken the beauty world by storm, offering a fresh alternative for those seeking both vibrant color and a touch of sophistication. I’ve personally seen how this trend has changed the way my clients approach lip products, often opting for velvet textures for everyday wear. What Are Velvet Lips and Why Are They Trending?

Velvet lips are essentially lip products that deliver a soft, velvety finish, characterized by their lightweight and hydrating properties. As someone who has worked in the beauty industry for years, I’ve noticed that many people are drawn to them because they offer a balance between matte and glossy looks. They provide a comfortable wear without the dryness often associated with matte lipsticks.

  • Great for everyday wear
  • Hydrating and comfortable
  • Available in a wide range of shades

The rise in popularity of velvet lips can be attributed to several factors: the growing emphasis on skincare-infused makeup, the desire for products that enhance natural beauty, and the influence of social media beauty trends. Many influencers have showcased their love for velvet finishes, leading to an increased demand for these products.

The Appeal of Velvet Lip Products: Comfort and Aesthetics

One of the main reasons I believe velvet lip products are so appealing is their comfort level. Unlike traditional matte formulas, which can feel tight and drying, velvet lips offer a more forgiving wear. They glide on smoothly, providing a luscious feel that lasts throughout the day. Plus, the velvety texture creates a beautiful, soft-focus effect that enhances your overall look!

  • Soft and creamy application
  • Rich pigmentation without the heaviness
  • Subtle shine that doesn’t overpower

From a stylistic perspective, the aesthetics of velvet lips are equally compelling. They provide a modern twist on classic lip looks, allowing for versatility that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Whether you’re heading to brunch or a night out, velvet lips can effortlessly elevate your makeup game! Discover more versatile makeup options in our article on choosing the right foundation.

Exploring Velvet Lipstick Trends: Key Influences in the Beauty Industry

The velvet lip trend has not emerged in a vacuum; it’s influenced by a variety of factors within the beauty industry. Notably, the shift towards more natural, skin-like finishes in makeup has played a significant role. Consumers are increasingly looking for products that complement their features rather than mask them, and velvet lips fit this bill perfectly.

  • Rise of “no makeup” makeup looks
  • Influencer endorsements and tutorials
  • Social media-driven beauty trends

As a beauty enthusiast and professional, I’ve witnessed how social media platforms have propelled this trend forward. With countless tutorials showcasing different ways to wear velvet lips, the community continues to grow and evolve, making it a staple in every makeup lover’s collection. Embracing this trend means not only enhancing your look but also keeping up with the latest in beauty innovations!

Just like any other part of your beauty regimen, your lips deserve some TLC! By incorporating simple daily routines, you can keep your lips looking luscious and feeling hydrated.

Daily Lip Care Routines to Enhance Velvet Texture

Creating a daily lip care routine is essential for maintaining that velvety finish. Start with a gentle exfoliation followed by hydration to achieve the best results. Here’s a quick list of steps to incorporate into your routine:

  • Exfoliate: Use a lip scrub or a soft toothbrush to gently remove dead skin.
  • Hydrate: Apply a nourishing lip balm to keep your lips moisturized.
  • Protect: Don’t forget to use a lip product with SPF to shield your lips from sun damage.
  • Reapply: Keep a lip balm handy for touch-ups throughout the day!

How to Wear Y2K Makeup in 2025 — With Photos http://livelaughlovedo.com/how-to-wear-y2k-makeup-in-2025-with-photos/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/how-to-wear-y2k-makeup-in-2025-with-photos/#respond Thu, 16 Oct 2025 12:10:46 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/16/how-to-wear-y2k-makeup-in-2025-with-photos/ [ad_1]

Maybe it’s the rose-colored, butterfly-shaped, rhinestone-studded glasses through which we view nostalgia, but girlhood in the Y2K era just hit differently. The magic of a sleepover with best friends in 1999 is a feeling I find myself chasing constantly, but it’s been tough to re-create. That’s when bonds were forged, comfort movies discovered, and makeup skills were born. Armed with a sponge-tipped eye shadow applicator and a dream, we didn’t have detailed video tutorials to follow. We looked to techniques passed on to us by cool older sisters and in the pages of YM to guide us.

Makeup felt fun, experimental, and almost revolutionary to my 11-year-old self. It was under the canopy of glow-in-the-dark stars on a friend’s ceiling that I was introduced to makeup as a creative medium. I learned how to apply eyeliner and smudge it out for that Xtina smoky eye, met for the first time the status symbol that was MAC’s Prrr Lipglass, and discovered the power that a swipe of Bath & Body Works Art Stuff roll-on body glitter held. “The early 2000s were such a fun, playful time for makeup,” says Nikki Deroest, a Los Angeles-based makeup artist. “They were glossy, frosty, a little undone.”

While Y2K looks certainly borrowed elements from the ’90s, there was a distinct difference between the two eras. “Nineties makeup was the supermodel look—think Tyra, Naomi, Cindy—with matte skin, brown or nude lips, and neutral tones that evolved from the polished glamour of the ’50s,” says Renée Loiz, a Los Angeles-based makeup artist. “Y2K flipped that with frosted shadows, metallic gloss, and shine pulled from ’70s disco. It went from minimal and sleek to playful and looking toward the future.”

At some point, we became adults, swapping our MAC Lipglass for matte, liquid lipsticks, and the brands we grew up with followed suit. Even Urban Decay, which launched in 1996 with some of the coolest, edgiest shades, like Acid Rain and Exhaust, veered toward neutrals with the launch of its Naked Palette in 2010 (which may have contributed to the rise in wearable earth tones of the time).

Still, old habits die hard, and like Kylie Minogue’s 2001 hit single, there are certain things you just can’t get out of your head. Props to that 20-year trend cycle, because Y2K aesthetics are back, and the inspiration is everywhere in makeup.

The Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 Beauty Looks To Add To Your Mood Board http://livelaughlovedo.com/the-paris-fashion-week-spring-summer-2026-beauty-looks-to-add-to-your-mood-board/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/the-paris-fashion-week-spring-summer-2026-beauty-looks-to-add-to-your-mood-board/#respond Wed, 08 Oct 2025 23:42:31 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/09/the-paris-fashion-week-spring-summer-2026-beauty-looks-to-add-to-your-mood-board/ [ad_1]

Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 is one for the books. With a record-breaking number of designer debuts (Matthieu Blazy for Chanel, Jonathan Anderson for Dior, and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Loewe, to name a few), celebrity-stacked front rows, and late-night parties, the nine-day marathon of shows and events was monumental, to say the least. So naturally, the PFW S/S ‘26 beauty looks were equally impactful. After all, first impressions are everything, and for many top fashion houses this season, all eyes were on their runways – from the hairstyles down to the clear kitten heel pumps.

This season, there was a particular emphasis on skin. Designers like Chloé, Loewe, Dior, and Schiaparelli all went with luminous, lit-from-within complexions, but added unexpected details that made their front rows do double takes, be it a matte hot pink lip, sculpted baby blue or shimmery red eye, or soft blushed cheeks. Hairstylists were on a similar wavelength, favoring wet-look styles, tousled air-dried waves, and shiny low ponytails. Of course, it wouldn’t be PFW without some maximalist moments. At Thom Browne, models had colorful lashes and blunt bobs with a long braid down the back. Meanwhile, Leonard Paris encouraged blush blindness with shimmery fuchsia flushed cheeks.

Keep reading for TZR’s highlight reel of the best makeup and hair moments from the PFW S/S ‘26 runways.

Of course the designer’s outer space-themed show included an otherworldly beauty look. The colorful lashes by lead makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench popped against radiant skin perfected by products from the show’s skin care sponsor, iS Clinical. For hair, lead artist James Pecis created striking blunt micro bobs that had baby bangs and a long braid cascading down from the back, and a few models had silver flecks added to their hair to mimic the look of moon dust.

Chloé’s Flamingo Pink Lips

Victor VIRGILE/Gamma-Rapho/Getty Images

Chloé’s makeup look by lead artist Yadim Carranza channeled that dewy, almost damp glow you get from getting slightly sweaty while wearing a light jacket on a warmer-than-expected spring afternoon. To achieve the effect, he used a handful of Saie complexion products, including the Dew Blush and Slip Tint Concealer. While many models had variations of this minimal makeup look, a few had a cool matte pink lip that matched the hot pink florals and flamingo print in the collection. Lead hairstylist Paul Hanlon looked to that effortless windswept texture you get from walking through the streets by giving models’ hair a lived-in look with Authentic Beauty Concept products.

Victoria Beckham’s Spontaneous Eyeliner

Victoria Beckham Beauty

Haven’t mastered sharp wings and clean lines with eyeliner yet? Don’t stress. Take a cue from the makeup at Victoria Beckham, whose collection and beauty look was inspired by the spontaneous self-styling of your youth, where lead artist Lucia Pica used the Satin Kajal Liner in Cocoa Pavé for a soft, lived-in look. She added the liner to the inner corners of the eyes, then used her fingertip to slightly smudge it out. For hair, lead hairstylist Anthony Turner followed suit by giving models simple yet feminine low ponytails using Wella Professionals Ultimate Smooth Miracle Oil Serum and ghd Chronos Max for an extra smooth and shiny finish.

Loewe’s Sculpted Complexions

For makeup artists, the face is a canvas. This was on full display at Loewe where Pat McGrath mirrored the artist Ellsworth Kelly-inspired collection with makeup that consisted of luminous skin, softly sculpted eyes, and a surprise burst of sunset hues that peeked out from under some of the model’s oversized shades. The key products that made the look possible included her Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, Concealer and Blurring Under-Eye Powder.

Rabanne’s Sunburnt Blush

Victor VIRGILE/Gamma-Rapho/Getty Images

You don’t need PTO to achieve a radiant, sun-kissed glow this spring. Simply reference Rabanne’s makeup look by lead artist Diane Kendal. She used the brand’s Mini Blushy Palette in Incompatibles and Almost Famous to give models’ cheeks a healthy flush, then used Colorshot in Sorry Not Sorry or My Bad to add some faux freckles for good measure. You can further lean into the beachy vibe with the show’s hair by Duffy, too. The wavy style was reminiscent of the way your hair looks air-dried after a dip in the ocean.

Schiaparelli’s Glow-In-The-Dark Eyes

(+)

Pat McGrath Labs

Pat McGrath created three cinematic looks for Sciaparelli’s latest collection, all designed to “glow in the dark,” the makeup artist told TZR backstage at the show. One of the three was centered around angelic, luminous skin, which McGrath achieved with her Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection products. The other two had bold eyes, either radiant baby blue or searing red, created with the Gilded Nirvana: Mega Eye Shadow Palette or Mothership V: Bronze Seduction. Meanwhile, Guido Palau pulled the hair up into super sleek and shiny twisted buns.

The Row’s Hairbrushed Updos

Leave it to The Row to turn the mishap of getting your brush stuck in your hair into the most artistic hairstyle of fashion month. Hairstylist Guido Palau intentionally worked combs and pins into twisted updos for the Olsens’ latest runway show.

Leonard Paris’ ‘80s Blush

Victor VIRGILE/Gamma-Rapho/Getty Images

Instead of a multi-step contour routine, simply sculpted your face with draped blush like at Leonard Paris. The pretty fuchsia shade is also so apropos for spring.

Giambattista Valli’s Liquid Waves

Schwarzkopf

Inspired by oil paintings, lead hairstylist Pablo Kuemin put a romantic spin on the sleek wet look hair trend by adding finger waves into the mix. When crafting the style, he used Schwarzkkopf Professional products, including the Session Label The Jelly, Session Label The Flexible, and Session Label The Coat.

Christian Dior’s Blossoming Blush

George Eyres for Christian Dior Parfums

Elevate your no-makeup makeup looks with Christian Dior’s blooming blush. To create a seamless, slightly flushed complexion, Peter Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup, applied the Forever Skin Glow Foundation in thin layers and blended the Backstage Rosy Glow Blush Stick in Rosewood or Berry to create a “veil of color.”

Vivienne Westwood’s Slept-In Waves

Schwarzkopf

Punk wasn’t dead on the Vivienne Westwood runway. In addition to the matte black lips, lead hairstylist Claire Grech kept the rebellious spirit going with the bedhead waves she styled using Schwarzkopf Professional Session Label.

Paris Fashion Week is officially underway, marking the final stop of fashion month. Of all the cities on the calendar, this has to be my favorite. Admittedly, I am biased — I’ve been a Francophile for as long as I can remember. But you don’t have to be obsessed with the culture to admit that Paris is a city known for its beauty. From the breathtaking Musée Rodin to the rolling hills of Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, the city is enchanting and captivating. This energy extends to fashion week, too. Dior, Chanel, Loewe, Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, Hermès — the list of designers showing this week promises a mix of creativity, craftsmanship, and bold looks that will define the season ahead. But the runways aren’t the only place to look for stunning beauty moments; you’re sure to see them on the streets, too.

This season, the Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 street style beauty looks draw inspiration from the past, with nods to ‘70s haircuts, Y2K glam, and nostalgic hair accessories. There’s no shortage of eye-catching looks, from bright hair colors and pops of highlighter to bleached brows and the quintessential fall moody lip. Guests are pulling out all the stops this season, showing off beauty looks that are just as major as their outfits.

Ahead, all of the best street style beauty moments spotted outside of the PFW S/S ‘26 shows.

Hair Beads

You may associate hair beads with childhood, but this attendee is proof that the accessory — which had its heyday during the early aughts — can be a bold and stylish statement at any age.

Pop of Highlighter

Claudio Lavenia/Getty Images

Highlighter isn’t just for summer. Whether you opt for a subtle sheen or an ethereal glow, like this PFW guest, it can add dimension to your makeup and make your features pop, no matter the season.

Orange Hair

Ussin Yala/Getty Images

Fall is the perfect time to debut a bold new hair color. The orange shade is fiery and cool on its own, but the wispy bangs and textured layers take it to the next level.

Bleached Brows

Ussin Yala/Getty Images

Bleached brows have been trending for a while, and it’s easy to understand why. The look is edgy, striking, and sure to turn heads.

Frosty Smoky Eye

Shaggy Mullet

Valentina Frugiuele/Getty Images

The shaggy mullet haircut is effortless, cool, and full of texture, making it an ideal style for anyone who wants a low-maintenance, statement-making look.

Stitch Braids

Claudio Lavenia/Getty Images

Léna Situations stitch braided the front of her hair, leaving the rest out in loose waves for an effortlessly chic look. It’s perfect for a busy day during PFW.

Moody Lips

Valentina Frugiuele/Getty Images

Take a page out of this show attendee’s book. Put the nude lipstick aside, and try out a vampy lip shade — like a deep burgundy or cherry red — instead.

Colorful Bandana

Valentina Frugiuele/Getty Images

Compared to the scrunchie, the bandana is an underrated hair accessory. But stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson shows that it’s a versatile and stylish piece that can elevate any look, especially if it’s a multicolored Prada bandana.

In no community is “to each their own” more true than the beauty coterie. I know that if you don’t get a bob right after I get bob, it’s not because you don’t like my bob—it’s because you just prefer longer hair for yourself. And while I know plenty of people who insist on a squared-off nail shape, it’s just never been for me. I prefer the softer look of an oval or almond shape, especially if there’s a French manicure involved. But Demi Lovato might have just recruited me to the square side with what her nail tech is calling the “micro straight French.”

Lovato is getting the word out about her upcoming ninth studio album, It’s Not That Deep, and that includes bopping around New York City during New York Fashion Week. The singer was spotted in a variety of devastatingly cool outfits, like a red long-sleeve top and low-slung black pants, and a belted, ribbed, burgundy catsuit. But just in case you couldn’t quite zoom in enough to get a close-up of her equally awesome nails, her go-to nail artist, Natalie Minerva, is happy to oblige.

Key Takeaways

  • Kaia Gerber took to the streets of Venice with two great arm accessories: a cute boy and a micro-French manicure.
  • The dainty design is easier to get than you’d think. (No promises on a matching actor beau to hold your hand, though.)

When in France, do as the French do and get a French manicure. When in Italy, maybe also do as the French do and get a French manicure?

Or forget all that and take the evergreen greatest advice, which is to follow whatever path Kaia Gerber is on. It just so happens that she’s also embracing Frenchies. In Italy, no less!

Kaia Gerber’s Micro-French Manicure

Over the weekend, Gerber showed up at the Venice International Film Festival with a simple manicure that featured the teeniest stripe of white paint on each tip. We call that a baby French or micro-French manicure.

This set in particular was kept long and almond-shaped. Though not completely invisible, the New Moon-worthy sliver of polish was set against a nude background for an even more timeless look.

Holding hands with Lewis Pullman everywhere she went, Gerber was first spotted on August 31 in a plunging polka dot top. The next day, she changed into a sheer black lace dress for the premiere of The Testament Of Ann Lee. Then, she wore a white top with white skirt with black heeled flip flops while arriving at Lido on September 2. The micro French came with her everywhere, and looked perfect in every setting.

How to Get the Look

Though I’m certain the model had a professional paint her famous fingernails, this is a look you could conceivably get at home. Byrdie has a guide to DIY’ing a flawless French manicure here.

If getting the tip that thin and even sounds overwhelming, you can also go the press-on route. If you’re fine with a square shape, Glamnetic has a pretty set.

Then, grab your current book club read and hit the canals. Or the Eiffel tower. Or the red carpet. Or nowhere at all! From hard launches to casual late summer day dates, this look is a go-to for a reason.

Hailey Bieber’s New Faded French Manicure Is Destined to Be a Huge Trend http://livelaughlovedo.com/hailey-biebers-new-faded-french-manicure-is-destined-to-be-a-huge-trend/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/hailey-biebers-new-faded-french-manicure-is-destined-to-be-a-huge-trend/#respond Tue, 19 Aug 2025 23:08:09 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/20/hailey-biebers-new-faded-french-manicure-is-destined-to-be-a-huge-trend/ [ad_1]

Whenever Hailey Bieber posts a video of herself where she’s doing her makeup or her hair, we’re always looking out for two things: if she’s sneaking in any as-yet-unreleased Rhode products and what manicure she’s wearing at the moment. And if we’re being honest, with the very rare exception of an unexpected color, her manicures are usually a take on her signature glazed-donut nails—something in the beige or light pink family, usually a bit shimmery, often sheer, and always pretty.

And when she posted her latest TikTok, in which she’s applying a couple of Rhode products to her lips and filming on a phone protected by her famous Lip Case (of course), we assumed the off-white manicure we saw flitting around was one of her go-to looks. But upon the closest possible inspection, we actually think it’s a deviation from the norm and quite possibly the next big trend in neutral nail looks.

When we zoom in—yes, we take screenshots and basically do forensic investigations of celebrity beauty TikToks here at Allure—we realized we were looking at what we can best describe as a faded manicure. At first glance, it seemed like it may just be a sheer off-white that’s transparent enough to let her natural tips show through, but those natural tips look pretty darn perfect, leading us to believe it’s actually two shades of cream: a sheer one as the base and a more opaque one on the tips, with a not-so-sharp line of demarcation that gives the overall look a faded effect.

TikTok content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

But wait! There’s more! When we zoomed in extra close, we could see what’s either some spots on her mirror, or a few little dots on her nails. Alas, Bieber has yet to give followers a closer, higher-res view.

Naturally, we’ve reached out in hopes of more details and a clearer look. But in the meantime, we’re not going to wait to see a faded French manicure on other hands before we call it: This is going to be one of the biggest trends for the rest of 2025.

The 5 Most Popular Acrylic Nail Shapes, According to Manicurists http://livelaughlovedo.com/the-5-most-popular-acrylic-nail-shapes-according-to-manicurists/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/the-5-most-popular-acrylic-nail-shapes-according-to-manicurists/#respond Fri, 15 Aug 2025 10:55:30 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/15/the-5-most-popular-acrylic-nail-shapes-according-to-manicurists/ [ad_1]

If you’ve ever gotten your nails done, you’re likely familiar with acrylics. They have long been one of the most popular types of nail enhancements. They’re also referred to as L+P (liquid and powder) because, as nail artist Lauren Denney points out, liquid and powder are key to their creation.

“Acrylic nails are a combination of liquid monomer and acrylic powder (polymer),” she explains. “When you mix the liquid with the powder, a polymerization process takes place and hardens, which sets the acrylic.”

Like polygel nails, acrylic nails are sculpted onto the nail with a form, Denney says. Or, a tip is glued to the nail, and acrylic is then overlaid to boost the nail’s shape, length, and strength.

As for how acrylic nails come to life, Bellacures nail artist Hayley Dang let us in on the process. “We take a brush and dip it into an acrylic liquid—we use this to make a moldable acrylic bead by dipping the wet brush into our acrylic powder,” she explains. “Once we have our bead, we place it into the nail bed, spreading it until it is even across the length of your natural nail and the plastic tip.”

It’s this step, she says, that makes or breaks an acrylic mani, as it’s what creates a natural-looking nail surface that’s smooth and uniform.

“After giving the powder time to harden, we begin filing the nail into whichever shape you’d like, whether it be coffin, stiletto, almond, round, or square,” Dang says. “[Acrylic nails] truly are a stunning look for those who like their nails to be a bit longer in length, or like the look of an elongated finger.”

Now that you’re up to speed on the acrylic process, let’s dive into shapes. Ahead, learn more about the top five acrylic nail shapes.`And if you’re here because of a certain nail shape debate? Remember that acrylic nail shapes can’t really be ranked, as their popularity depends on personal preference. “There is no ‘one size fits all’ when picking the perfect nail shape for you,” Dang adds. “It just depends on the individual’s personal preference and style.”

Zoë Kravitz’s Bandana Is The Ultimate Summer Hair Hack http://livelaughlovedo.com/zoe-kravitzs-bandana-is-the-ultimate-summer-hair-hack/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/zoe-kravitzs-bandana-is-the-ultimate-summer-hair-hack/#respond Wed, 13 Aug 2025 22:49:47 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/14/zoe-kravitzs-bandana-is-the-ultimate-summer-hair-hack/ [ad_1]

Odds are someone — a celeb, influencer, or a friend — on your feed has sported a headscarf this summer. Maybe it was Hailey Bieber who wore a polka dot one on a boat in Spain. Or perhaps it was Sofia Richie Grainge who donned an off-white and black geometric scarf while in the South of France. Or, it could be one of the many content creators you follow. Now, you can add Zoë Kravitz to that list. Last night, Aug. 12, the actor went on Late Night With Seth Meyers to promote her upcoming movie, Caught Stealing, and for the appearance, she wore a simple, black and white bandana. The scarf pulled double duty — it wasn’t just an accessory, but also helped keep Kravitz’s hair, styled by Nikki Nelms in loose waves that cascaded down her back, in place and out of her face.

Kravitz paired the bandana with fresh, minimal makeup, courtesy of makeup artist Nina Park, and a nude manicure created by celebrity nail artist Jin Soon Choi. The low-key glam was complemented by an oversized blazer, a cropped sleeveless vest, and loose trousers. All together, the look was effortless, striking the ideal balance between polished and laid-back.

Caught Stealing, which also stars Austin Butler, debuts on Aug. 29 — meaning there are still a few more weeks for Kravitz to unveil a few more memorable beauty moments before the press tour wraps up.
