Overcoming the Fear of Being Single Forever: Embracing Joyful Independence and Self-Discovery

By Jordan Reed – Relationship & Family Advisor

As I sip my morning coffee on the porch this crisp December morning, watching my kids chase the dog around the yard before school, I’m reminded of how the fear of being single forever can quietly creep into even the happiest lives. At 39, as a couples counselor and dad from Texas, I’ve spent years helping folks navigate love’s twists and turns—while cherishing my own date nights with my wife amid the kid chaos. But lately, after our recent anniversary reflections on how we almost let societal pressures rush us into settling too soon, I’ve been thinking a lot about the other side of the coin. The fear of being single forever isn’t just a passing worry; it’s a deep-seated concern that has people staying in unfulfilling relationships or rushing into new ones out of panic. Yet, what if we reframed it? What if singlehood became a celebration of self, a time for unapologetic growth and adventure? In this guide, we’ll explore the roots of the fear of being single forever, debunk myths, and share practical steps to embrace a life of joyful independence—because belonging to yourself, as Michel de Montaigne wisely said, is the greatest thing in the world.

Drawing from my counseling sessions where clients often confess this exact fear—sometimes with tears, sometimes with a laugh—I’ll blend relatable stories, expert insights, and uplifting strategies to help you transform anxiety into empowerment. Whether you’re navigating singlehood by choice or circumstance, overcoming the fear of being single forever is about discovering that your worth isn’t tied to a plus-one. Let’s unpack this with warmth, humor, and a focus on the positives—after all, with the holidays in full swing on this December 18, 2025, it’s the perfect time to gift yourself some inner peace.

The Hidden Grief Behind the Fear of Being Single Forever

The fear of being single forever often feels like a peculiar grief—not for something lost, but for something never experienced. In my practice, clients describe it as mourning the mythical “other half” society promised, leading to a haunting sense of incompleteness. This isn’t about denying the desire for partnership; it’s about recognizing how this fear drives us to make choices from scarcity rather than abundance.

A study from Psychology Today reveals that people fearing singlehood are more likely to long for exes or struggle with breakups, perpetuating cycles of unhappiness. But here’s the silver lining: acknowledging this grief is the first step to healing. During our family game nights, we’ve turned “what if” fears into playful scenarios, teaching my kids that life’s richness comes in many forms—not just romantic ones.

Embracing life as a single person brings freedom

Unpacking the Stigma: From Witches and Spinsters to Modern Labels

The stigma of singlehood is sticky and insidious, convincing us that being unpartnered means something’s wrong. Historically, single women were labeled witches or spinsters, while men faced less scrutiny—but the judgment persists. I once had a client tick “spinster” on a visa form, laughing through the absurdity, yet it highlights how society categorizes us.

High-DA sites like the Gottman Institute note that this stigma keeps people in misaligned relationships, fearing the “alternative.” In counseling, we challenge these labels, reframing singlehood as a valid, powerful choice. My anniversary with my wife reminded me how rushing past single years might have robbed us of self-growth—embrace yours without apology.

How Cultural Conditioning Fuels the Fear of Being Single Forever

Our fear of being single forever runs deep, rooted in centuries-old messaging that ties worth to partnership. For women, survival once depended on men—financially, socially—but even today, this legacy lingers. Disney tales and rom-coms like Jerry Maguire’s “you complete me” reinforce it, turning independence into a “problem to solve.”

In sessions, clients share how this conditioning shows up in quiet moments, like a friend whispering, “What if I never find someone else?” as if that’s the worst fate. But let’s shift: culture’s story isn’t yours. My family traditions, like holiday game nights, show connection comes in many forms—romantic or not.

The Inner Voices That Keep the Fear of Being Single Forever Alive

Inside many of us, a cast of inner voices amplifies the fear of being single forever. There’s the legacy-burdened one, believing worth is sealed only once chosen; the good girl, fearing family disappointment; the people pleaser, wondering if they’re “too much”; and the inner child, stung by past rejections.

These voices are common in counseling— clients often identify them as holdovers from childhood or society. The antidote? Compassionate self-talk. During my porch coffee rituals, I practice gratitude for my path, partnered or not. Try it: List three strengths daily to quiet those whispers.

The journal that’s helped clients voice these inner dialogues is this one—the exact one I use for my own reflections, currently 15% off, run to grab it and start your self-discovery journey.

How the Dating Industry Profits from Your Fear of Being Single Forever

The modern dating industry thrives on the fear of being single forever, turning insecurities into a multi-million-dollar machine. Apps, coaches, and books promise “the one,” but often as a prelude to partnership, not self-fulfillment. Where are the guides for thriving solo?

In my practice, clients share frustration with contrived app “dates”—we used to meet organically in coffee shops. Friends get excited about matches as if rescue is imminent, but true connection starts with self-love. During holidays like this December season, resist the pressure—focus on your joy instead.

The Biological Pull: Why We Crave Connection (But Don’t Need It to Thrive)

Biology wires us for connection—craving intimacy is natural, not a flaw. But the fear of being single forever confuses this pull with necessity, leading to panic-driven decisions.

Gottman Institute research shows we’re built for belonging, but it doesn’t have to be romantic. In counseling, we explore spreading love universally—through friendships, community, self. My family game rituals remind me connection is multi-faceted; nurture yours beyond coupledom.

Redefining Love: From Romantic to Universal to Overcome the Fear of Being Single Forever

Rather than channeling longing into one person, redefine love as universal—kindness, compassion for all. This shifts the fear of being single forever to a broader, healing force.

In sessions, clients discover soulmates in friendships, like my best friend and I joking about retirement together. Deep connection isn’t confined to romance; it’s liberating. This holiday season, spread love through acts of service—it’s a powerful antidote.

Outbound to Psychology Today for myth-busting articles on mindfulness and love’s many forms.

The Freedom and Gifts of Being Single to Conquer the Fear of Being Single Forever

Here’s the unsung truth: singlehood offers freedom—I can book trips on a whim, sleep diagonally, and own the remote. No yogurt disputes or thermostat battles. Clients fear loneliness, like choking on toast alone, but the gifts? Deep self-knowledge, unshaped identity. It’s not a consolation; it’s a superpower. My pre-marriage single years built empathy for counseling—yours can too.

3-Week Semi-Solo Travel Adventure: My Experience and Lessons Learned

Building a Life of Joyful Independence Despite the Fear of Being Single Forever

Overcoming the fear of being single forever means building independence that excites. Pursue passions, like my planned Camino walk in Portugal—powered by my own heart, no plus-one needed.

In therapy, we craft lives of joy: hobbies, travel, self-care. A Harvard Health study shows self-reliant people report higher well-being. Include daily calm; the meditation cushion that’s transformed my rituals is this one—the exact one I use, currently on sale, it’s a must for cozy introspection.

Outbound to Lonely Planet for adventure ideas that foster this independence.

Role Models for Thriving Single Lives to Inspire Beyond the Fear of Being Single Forever

We need more role models thriving single—think Oprah or Leonardo da Vinci, living fully without traditional partnership. In 2025, gender and sexuality fluid, why not relationship status too?

In counseling, sharing stories of clients turning singlehood into radical self-trust inspires. You’re not failing; you’re pioneering. My story? Single years made me a better partner and counselor.

Single by Trust: A Radical Act in a Coupled World

Viewing singlehood as radical self-trust defies a coupled-obsessed culture. It’s not “I don’t need anyone”—it’s living fully for yourself, without apology.

Clients shift from performative independence to genuine self-relationship, opening to partnership from wholeness. Trust your path; it’s yours.

The book that’s guided clients through this self-trust is Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus—the exact one I recommend, it’s timeless for understanding yourself and others.

Outbound to Tiny Buddha for community tales of radical self-trust.

Navigating Holidays and Social Events While Facing the Fear of Being Single Forever

Holidays amplify the fear of being single forever with questions like “Anyone special?” Redirect with confidence: share your adventures. This December 18, 2025, amid festive lights, focus on self-gifts like a cozy night in.

In sessions, we practice responses that honor your story. Family events become opportunities for connection beyond romance—our game nights include all statuses.

For seasonal calm, see Holiday Stress Busters for a Peaceful Season.

Outbound to Oprah Daily for holiday survival tips emphasizing self-joy.

When Partnership Comes: Approaching It from a Place of Wholeness

If partnership arrives, approach from wholeness—not fear of being single forever. Healthy relationships bloom when you’re complete alone.

Gottman research shows secure attachments foster lasting bonds. Clients find love after embracing single joy. My story? Single years were foundational.

The book that’s prepared many for healthy partnerships is The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work—the exact one I use in sessions, it’s gold for building from wholeness.

Long-Term Strategies to Maintain Confidence in Singlehood

Sustain confidence by regularly reassessing goals and surrounding yourself with supportive people. Journal quarterly on wins to combat the fear of being single forever.

Community groups or apps foster connections without romance pressure. My clients thrive with this ongoing practice.

Wrapping Up: Your Life, Your Terms—Beyond the Fear of Being Single Forever

Overcoming the fear of being single forever isn’t about denying desires—it’s about living fully now, partnered or not. Embrace the freedom, growth, and universal love available. As holidays wrap up, gift yourself this truth: you’re enough.

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 894 http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/makeup-and-beauty-blog-monday-poll-vol-894/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/makeup-and-beauty-blog-monday-poll-vol-894/#respond Wed, 17 Sep 2025 13:08:16 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/17/makeup-and-beauty-blog-monday-poll-vol-894/ [ad_1]

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. Did you wear lipstick today?

Nope, today was Laneige Lip Balm in Vanilla. I had grand plans to wear a bright lip but at the last minute went super low key.

2. One beauty-related task you’d like to get better about?

I haven’t been doing a great job at keeping up with upper lip and chin hair removal. In my defense, my near vision is crap these days, so half the time I can’t see those pokey things growing out the side of my face, haha!

3. Your thoughts on ramen?

Love it but so much of it depends on two main things for me: 1) the broth and 2) the texture of the noodles. If either of those are off, then I’m out.

4. One nice thing you’ve done for yourself today?

I watched the sun rise while treating myself to an early morning walk. It was glorious!

5. Can you roller skate?

Sure! I learned back in the ‘80s way before knee pads, helmets and parental supervision, hahaha. It was you versus the pavement. Admittingly, I learned REAL quick!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.

1. Did you wear lipstick today?
2. One beauty-related task you’d like to get better about?
3. Your thoughts on ramen?
4. One nice thing you’ve done for yourself today?
5. Can you roller skate?

Beauty (And Other Things) De-Influence Me Edition http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/beauty-and-other-things-de-influence-me-edition/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/beauty-and-other-things-de-influence-me-edition/#respond Fri, 05 Sep 2025 12:16:45 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/05/beauty-and-other-things-de-influence-me-edition/ [ad_1]

Dude, I am like so proud of myself because I haven’t really purchased any makeup in the last month. Wild right? Me? Not buying makeup? BRB let me make sure fire isn’t raining down outside. Nope, we’re good. All safe. But yeah, like many of you, the need to purchase all the new makeup releases has def come to a standstill for me. With so many repetitive releases I feel like I’ve already have something similar in my stash! But never fear, I’m still craving stuff I don’t need so, your job, if you choose to accept it, is to de-influence me!

Let’s start with the most important matter. The Labubu Pin for Love Series. Guys, I think I’m good. I may need a little more support but all in all I made to executive decision to NOT shop this launch and I feel like I really did something by just saying no! Do I want a mini Labubu bag charm? Yes! Do I want to spend millions of dollars trying to score one with my initial, that’d be a nope. I’d normally say, screw it, let me get a complete set but what’s the point? I’d have a set with initials from A to M and would maybe only use two for my first and last name. And the initials are stitched into the Labubu’s butt so, not like you can hide the fact you’re carrying around a different initial. It’s such a weird, pointless release. I could see myself falling hard for this launch if initials weren’t involved but as it is, it’s a nope for me. I did see one of my favorite creators scoring a W and an F which are the initials of our fandom and it was like, dude, dude, wait, how did you pull those? Knowing me I’d end up with some odd pull if I did a blind box! If you see me walking down the street with a initial X on my Labubu just keep walking by and don’t say anything haha! So, yeah, I successfully de-influenced myself on this but words of encouragement are always welcome.

I think I successfully de-influenced myself on this too (with the help of some Reddit peeps). This was a hard one my friends. I said NO to purchasing the Timestopper DVD Set. Does it come with photocards? Yes, does it have backstage footage? Yes. Does it have ton of extras? Yes. Do I want to see Perth and Tata jump up from the bottom of the stage in synch at the same time in HD? Absolutely. Do I want to spend crazy tariff prices to purchase this? Eh…………………! Not really. It’s $60 retail (a little under) but it’ll set be back $145 with the tariff situation and I’m just about that. I don’t really mind the price but I do mind the wait time to actual get it shipped to the US. The wait wouldn’t normally bother me but the sheer amount of content that will be shared via edits and clips on Tiktok, IG, Reddit, and fan groups will be unavoidable and it will take away so much from my purchase. I’m consoling myself with a great purchase I made on Mercari as I got the Timestopper Photobook and the seller was super awesome as she was fangirling with me and put in a bunch of Timestopper photocards I feel well and properly over my need for this set. I hope I stick to that. Wish me luck!

But these photocards are carding:

Now for beauty…!

Dolce & Gabbana Ever Icon Eye Palette $72
I have no business looking at these. Not even glancing their way but I gotta admit the Ever Icon Eyeshadow Palettes are a vibe. They look like they have a slurry-like texture that we all know and love from some of favorite Japanese brands like Lavashuca and Majolica Majorca (what a time to be alive am I right?). But honestly, the price isn’t it. I feel like they should be at the $60 mark not $72 but, as we all know, makeup has gone up considerably. Expense aside do I need these? Absolutely not considering I have enough eyeshadow to last me into my next five lives. Do I want them? Yeah, I sort of want to check one out. The heart compact, the shade range, looking good, but do me a favor? De-influence me.

Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Lips Healthy Glow Nectar Oil $25
That’s a nope, dog. I can’t with this launch. Really, someone stop me because I’m not 12 years old and do not need to stockpile lip oil like the world is ending and my lips will be forever parched because production will stop on all lip oils as zombies devour the living. But but seriously, remind me again how I don’t need another lip oil! These are actually really tempting because the reviews are unholy good. We got glossy, we got sheer color, we got comfortable to wear, moisturizing, but I think they may all look the same on lips since they are selling that old pH “one of a kind” shade bullsh1T that’s unique to you. We all heard that marketing before am I right? That being said, I’m wear, I can see myself indulging in one. De-influence me.

Dolce & Gabbana Everlast Concealer $40
Taking it back to D&G over here. I can never say no to new concealer. This new formulation promises crease, water, and sweat proof coverage in a lightweight matte finish that promises to blend easily under eyes and on face with a precise tip applicator for application. De-influence me and remind me to use the hundred other concealer I already have.

Chanel Sublimage Le Corrector Yeux Radiant Generating Concealer Eye Care $110
More concealer? Crap. Chanel’s new ultra-hydrating concealer is a light, creamy consistency that can be used to hydrate the under eye areas as it concealers darkness and enhances overall radiance under the eye with light-reflecting particles. Why do I need this in my life? Do your job, de-influence me!

Lancome Skin Idôle Juicy Liquid Blush $38
Lancome new Juicy Liquid Blush feels like an easy no for me considering they are so late to jump on the liquid blush trend and so many cheaper options are available. That being said, I do find myself interested enough to want to check these out. They promise a ultra creamy formula that transforms from liquid to powder for long wear. I don’t need them but I do need to be de-influenced.

Lay it on me. What are you yearning for and how can I de-influence you?

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. Ice cream sandwich or popsicle?

An ice cream sandwich please, but it’s gotta be a Mini Its-It in Vanilla. YUM!

2. What are you wearing on your nails right meow?

Chanel Incendiare, a warm bright red. Reminds me of summer tomatoes.

3. Things that make you think of summer beauty?

Bright, sheer glossy lipgloss. Colorful, bold nail polish in shades of red or coral. Certain Chanel fragrances with a fruity vibe, like Chance. The scent of Guerlain bronzer. Body oils.

4. Have you ever lived somewhere where chickens wake you up in the morning?

Technically, yes. In the spring, during a particularly rough patch of insomnia, I used to hear a rooster crowing off in the distance in the wee hours of the morning. My guess is he lived down the street and a few blocks over. I haven’t heard from him in a while, though, so hmmm. Hope he’s still around!

5. Your preferred decade of dance music?

‘80s, baby!

Karen

1. Do you keep backups of your favorite products?

These days, the only backups I buy are things I know I’ll finish on a regular basis (like shampoo and conditioner, or body lotion). I don’t even bother with makeup backups anymore, though. If I finish something like a blush or an eyebrow pencil, great, and if it’s still around when it’s time to restock, that’s even better. If it’s discontinued, I might mourn it a little bit, but there’s always something new coming out, and I don’t mind trying new things, so I don’t stress about it too much.

2. Something that you read/watched/listened to recently that was surprisingly great?

I watched “KPop Demon Hunters” on Netflix with Connor over the weekend, and I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did. If you liked “Jem and the Holograms” back in the day, I think you’ll enjoy this movie, too.

3. Something beauty-related that you want to try?

The new tinted SPF by Merit seems intriguing!

4. Documentaries or TV shows about serial killers: yes or no?

Nope! Hard pass.

5. Something that you’re relieved to finally have gotten done?

GIRL. I finally did my nails. You don’t even want to know how tragic my pedicure has been for the last three weeks! But now everything is freshly polished and nice, and all is well with the world.

A well-stocked fragrance wardrobe typically has several weekend options, with scents for date nights, weddings, and leisurely outings (strawberry picking, anyone?). But the best office fragrances, which can make the hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. significantly more enjoyable, deserve a few spots in the lineup, too. That’s where this scent selection, handpicked by Allure editors, comes in. Whether you need a fragrance that calms stress, makes a statement, or pairs perfectly with a power look, these scents—tested at our own desks and cubicles—exceed expectations in every department.

Our Top Office Fragrances

Your Skin But Elevated: DedCool Xtra Milk Eau de Parfum

Dedcool

Xtra Milk Eau de Parfum

Jesa Marie Calaor applying the DedCool Xtra Milk Eau de Parfum

Jesa Marie Calaor

Why we love it: Every morning, as I finish making the bed, I spritz DedCool Xtra Milk Room + Linen Spray onto my pillowcase. The musky, second-skin scent melds notes of bergamot, white amber, and musk for a fragrance that’s fresh and cozy at the same time. It invokes that feeling you get from pulling warm, cleanly scented towels out of the dryer. Why not bring that fresh-start-to-the-day feeling to work by spritzing on the eau de parfum before reporting to duty? The Best of Beauty Award winner is also made for layering, so if you need a boost of energy midday, top it off with a spritz of my summer fave, the orange-blossom-laced Sunlit Blooms.

“I’ve never had someone come in for a handshake or a hug and not complement me on my scent. Viscerally, Xtra Milk is burying your face in laundered linens, wading in sunshine in a quiet open field. Literally, it’s a blend of bergamot, white amber, and musk that smells different on everyone.” —Jesa Marie Calaor, senior beauty editor

  • Scent family: skin scent, musk
  • Key notes: bergamot, white musk, amber
  • Sizes: 1.7 oz

Wandering in the Garden: Byredo Bal D’Afrique Eau de Parfum

Byredo

Bal d’Afrique Eau de Parfum

Sarah Han applying the Byredo Bal D’Afrique Eau de Parfum

Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: Inspired by perfumer Ben Gorham’s travels through Africa—where bustling markets and lush, spicy garden scents abound—Byredo Bal D’Afrique is a floral scent that’s anything but staid. The wholly distinctive fragrance wraps a bouquet of African flowers (powdery violet, musky marigold, and fresh, green cyclamen) in a burst of bergamot. The twist of citrus will give you the energy to power through a day of deadlines, and the scent has a medium intensity that won’t overwhelm your coworkers.

Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han

“Straightforward floral fragrances aren’t my thing; I like my floral notes accompanied with a little extra something, and in Byredo’s Bal D’Afrique, it’s the earthy heart notes of violet and cyclamen and a woody base of cedarwood and vetiver. Office perfumes, to me, are like mini escapes with every sniff. Bal D’Afrique takes me somewhere in nature, wandering aimlessly just for the sake of wandering (as someone who’s constantly going from point A to B in an urban jungle, this feels like a luxury!), but it doesn’t smell so overwhelming that I risk driving my deskmates away. I’ve read reviews of people complaining about the longevity of the perfume—though some say it improves the longer you’ve had your bottle—but the Absolu version solves that issue for me, as it’s more highly concentrated.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

  • Scent family: floral
  • Key notes: African marigold, bergamot, buchu, violet, cyclamen, cedarwood, vetiver
  • Sizes: 1.7 oz, 3.3 oz

Beach Day Vibes: The Harmonist Sacred Water

The Harmonist

Sacred Water

Sarah Kinonen holding bottle of The Harmonist Sacred Water

Sarah Kinonen with the The Harmonist Sacred Water

Sarah Kinonen

Why we love it: Occasionally—as in every Monday through Friday—a trip to the beach may sound more appealing than taking another meeting. Enter The Harmonist Sacred Water, which will just about transport you to an idyllic spot in the sand without taking up any of your PTO. Spiked with tropical flowers, seaweed, and earthy notes of amber and cedar, the scent was designed to stimulate and soothe all at once. Its sillage is soft and light, but it will easily last from morning till evening.

“I’ve been wearing this fragrance—with notes of orange blossom, ginger, and amber—exclusively since I discovered it during Best of Beauty testing in 2022. It’s light, fresh, and has a certain je ne sais quoi that elicits compliments throughout the day—in and out of the office.” —Sarah Kinonen, associate beauty director

  • Scent family: aquatic
  • Key notes: magnolia, orange blossom, laminaria seaweed, amyris, grey amber, cedar
  • Sizes: 1.7 oz

Roll With It: Cyklar Vanilla Verve Perfume Oil

Cyklar

Vanilla Verve Perfume Oil

Allure shopping director Shanna Shipin applying Cyklar Vanilla Verve Perfume Oil

Shanna Shipin

Why we love it: Looking for an option that’s more inconspicuous to reapply than engulfing yourself in clouds of perfume? Cyklar perfume oils come with a handy rollerball applicator that delivers a concentrated dose of delicious-smelling oils directly to your pulse points. Our preferred scent goes to Vanilla Verve, a spicy-sweet concoction of green cardamom, vanilla, tonka bean, and amber. For the true vanilla obsessives, this is the scent everyone’s talking about.

Tester feedback from shopping director Shanna Shipin

“If you want to smell good all day at work, a perfume oil is the way. Cyklar’s oil goes everywhere with me—look how cute and compact this bottle is! It’s perfect for tossing into any kind of work bag, and since it’s a rollerball, I never have to worry about spillage. I love this fragrance—it’s a dynamic vanilla thats a bit mysterious, a bit comforting, but with some green notes to keep things fresh.” —Shanna Shipin, shopping director

  • Scent family: spicy gourmand
  • Key notes: bergamot, green cardamom, vanilla, ambrette seed, amber, tonka bean
  • Sizes: 0.5 oz

Buy Yourself the Flowers: Dior J’Adore Eau de Parfum

Dior

J’adore Eau de Parfum

Lexi Herrick applying the Dior J’Adore Eau de Parfum

Lexi Herrick

Why we love it: Like an old friend, this Dior classic tends to invoke fond memories—and it’s almost universally loved, so chances are slim that it will offend someone in a neighboring cubicle. A main character in the perfume department since its 1999 launch, the solar-floral scent is an ode to a fantasy flower. It has notes of solar ylang-ylang, damascus rose, and a delicate blend of two types of jasmine. As a bonus, its gold-dipped bottle can bring a little luster to desktop decor.

Tester feedback from senior director of audience development Lexi Herrick

“This perfume has been a staple in my routine since the moment I smelled it for the first time. I adore a gentle, floral or fruity fragrance, and Dior J’adore is the perfect combination of both. It’s great for wearing in the office as well, as it’s not too overpowering or aggressive. I can be deeply impacted by strong fragrances, with some even triggering instant migraine headaches, so I am especially conscious and considerate of wearing perfume around others in an office setting. This light, bright and iconic fragrance will always be in my top rotation for that reason as well!” —Lexi Herrick, senior director of audience development

  • Scent family: floral solar
  • Key notes: damascus rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, violet, lily of the valley
  • Sizes: 1 oz, 1.7 oz, 3.4 oz, 5 oz

Spice Up Your Life: Phlur Not Your Baby Eau de Parfum

Phlur

Not Your Baby Eau de Parfum

Ingrid Fowler applying the Phlur Not Your Baby Eau de Parfum

Ingrid Fowler

Why we love it: Light and playful with a touch of spice, Phlur’s Not Your Baby is like a breath of fresh air for the office. True, the viral scent has a sweet pink hue and a soothing, powdery scent that might signal innocence, but it’s not without promotion-worthy depth. The fragrance melds notes of cardamom, mimosa, vanilla milk, and sandalwood for a scent that’s equal parts soft and sophisticated.

“I wear this scent when I know I’m going to be in close proximity to others (a long car ride, the office, etc.). Its light, spicy bergamot base makes it interesting, but its powdery, floral notes keep it muted and not too intense, so I don’t worry about it being too bold for being around people. It also has a touch of vanilla that mixes with the other notes so seamlessly. I’d recommend this for anyone who’d like to smell sweet and fresh.” —Ingrid Fowler, senior art director

  • Scent family: spicy floral
  • Key notes: cardamom, bergamot, violet, mimosa, vanilla milk, sandalwood
  • Sizes: 1.7 oz

Get Figgy With It: Glossier Body Spritz

Angela Trakoshis applying the Glossier Body Spritz in Sandstone

Angela Trakoshis

Why we love it: Available in two scents, Glossier Body Spritz is a midday reset in a bottle that can also be used on the hair. The only question is, how do you need to feel to make it through the rest of your to-do list? The Orange Blossom Neroli is the more energizing of the scents, with its zippy blend of bergamot, pear water, orange flower, and neroli. To feel grounded and focused, opt for a spritz of Sandstone. The spa-like fragrance has notes of fig leaf, lavandin, clary sage, geranium, sandalwood, and coconut milk.

Tester feedback from shopping market editor Angela Trakoshis

“I might not be in the office much these days, but if I’m going to pick a fragrance that I would wear in the office, it would be this mist. It’s light, refreshing, and reminds me of a bright floral garden. The best part is it doubles as a hair mist, which makes me feel extra clean on dirty hair days.” —Angela Trakoshis, shopping market editor

  • Scent family: citrus floral (Orange Blossom Neroli), woody (Sandstone)
  • Key notes: bergamot, pear water, orange flower, neroli, fresh cypress, soft musks (Orange Blossom Neroli); fig leaf, lavandin, clary sage, geranium, sandalwood, coconut milk (Sandstone)
  • Sizes: 1.7 oz, 3.4 oz

Boardroom Ready: U Beauty Proem Eau De Parfum

U Beauty

Proem Eau De Parfum

Lex Goldstein applying the U Beauty Proem Eau De Parfum

Lex Goldstein

Why we love it: The skin-care company famous for its skin-firming technology lent its flair for innovation to its debut scent. U Beauty Proem launched mere months ago, but already has ardent fans here at Allure. Fruity, floral, earthy, and even a touch gourmand, the perfume’s singular mix of centifolia rose, Chinese peony, Chinese magnolia, vetiver, and pistachio has certainly been a welcome scent around our water cooler. Test it out yourself the next time you want to make a lasting impression—say, for a job interview at an edgy firm or before a big creative pitch.

Tester feedback from editorial intern Lex Goldstein

“Proem is absolutely what sophisticated cool girls are wearing to the office. A mindful spritz of lychee, vetiver and rhubarb notes will last throughout the day, so there’s no need to reapply!” —Lex Goldstein, editorial intern

Tester feedback from former commerce writer Jennifer Hussein

“It’s no exaggeration to say I’m dousing myself in U Beauty’s Proem on a daily basis—its fragrance is light enough for me to spray an exact 11 times without becoming overwhelmingly noticeable. Its lychee-forward scent veers far from the average fruity fragrance and has more of a warm, soft floral profile with just a hint of tanginess, kind of like a fresh cup of hibiscus tea.” —Jennifer Hussein, former commerce writer

  • Scent family: fruity floral
  • Key notes: centifolia rose, vetiver, Chinese magnolia, pink peppercorn, lychee, pistachio, rhubarb, night-blooming jasmine
  • Sizes: 1.7 oz, 0.33 oz

This made me laugh so hard! Happy Monday 🙂

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. Do you care about Labubus?

Nah, I just don’t get the hype.

2. What’s your favorite summer dessert?

Hmm, all of them? If pressed to pick one, then ice cream.

3. Do you have plans for the Fourth of July yet?

Connor will be dancing with her dance team in the town parade, so that’s our main event during the day. We’ll probably do a barbeque at home after the parade. Where we live doesn’t allow fireworks, so we may or may not go looking for a fireworks display. We’ll see how ambitious we’re feeling!

4. How do you feel about maxi dresses?

If it’s in a petite size and the print isn’t too overwhelming, then I’ll rock a maxi dress, for sure.

5. What is the last thing you had to drink?

I’m chugging a huge bottle of cold water as I type this. Oh, and you know what? I don’t know how I made it through the ‘80s and ‘90s because I barely drank any water back then, LOL! I don’t remember feeling awful at the time, but I guess that was due to the magic of being young. Now if I don’t drink massive amounts of water throughout the day I feel it in my body, my brain, my skin, sheesh, even my eyes feel dry if I don’t have enough water, haha!

Dakota Johnson’s Shimmery Cat Eye Manicure Is So Unexpected http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/dakota-johnsons-shimmery-cat-eye-manicure-is-so-unexpected/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/dakota-johnsons-shimmery-cat-eye-manicure-is-so-unexpected/#respond Sat, 14 Jun 2025 00:27:42 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/06/14/dakota-johnsons-shimmery-cat-eye-manicure-is-so-unexpected/ [ad_1]

Key Takeaways

  • On June 7, Dakota Johnson attended the New York premiere of her new film, ‘The Materialists.’
  • Se traded her go-to nude nails for a cool metallic manicure.
  • She also wore glowy makeup and her signature bangs.

Truth be told, I’ve had the release date for The Materialists marked on my calendar since the trailer first dropped. A matchmaking Dakota Johnson?? Chris Evans?? PEDRO PASCAL? No blockbuster could entice me more, plus I love Past Lives and trust Celine Song to bring it again.

As about five notifications so kindly reminded me this morning, today is the day! And while I haven’t made it to the theater yet, I’ve heard and seen only good things about the movie. By seen, I mean I can’t stop looking at the manicure Johnson wore to its New York premiere.

Dakota Johnson’s Metallic Rose Cat Eye Manicure

Getty Images

Last Saturday, Johnson appeared at the DGA Theater in Manhattan wearing a slinky one-shouldered black Gucci gown from the brand’s 2026 cruise collection and holding a cutout of Pascal’s face with her shimmery cat eye-polished fingernails.

Nail artist Mo Quin was in charge of the design. While Johnson is typically one to stick with the classics, she traded her favorite nude polishes for a trendy cat eye finish. Depending on the angle and lighting, her rounded almond-shaped nails appeared silver or rosy. Silver linings… rose colored glasses… it all sounds pretty romantic drama-coded to me

Getty Images

Dakota Johnson’s Soft Glam

With her long brunette hair and signature bangs glossy as ever, the actress rounded out her beauty with some soft glam by celebrity makeup artist Georgie Eisdell.

Her highlighted cheeks did a great job of playing into the nail art’s energy.

Getty Images

“To warm up the complexion, I used the Beauty Pie Awesome Bronze Bronzing Cream in Sunny Side, across the cheekbones, temples, and jawline—this blends like a dream and gives that sun-kissed, skin-like finish,” explained Eisdell. “Then I tapped on the Beauty Pie Luxe Shine Blush Stick in Terra Rosa to the apples of the cheeks for a fresh pop of color. I finished the skin with a swipe of the Beauty Pie Triple Beauty Luminizing Highlighter Wand on the high points—cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and cupid’s bow—for a dewy highlight.”

Surprise, surprise: the movie highlight of my summer and actual highlight of my summer go hand in (perfectly manicured) hand.
