Gal Gadot has clarified her comments claiming that the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict affected her movie Snow White’s performance at the box office.

“I was honored to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart. Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place,” Gadot, 40, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, August 17. “When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way.”

She added, “They saw me, first and foremost, as an Israeli, not as an actress. That’s the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question.”

Gadot, who hails from Israel, starred as the Evil Queen in the live-action adaptation of Snow White opposite Rachel Zegler in the titular role. The film hit theaters in March, but significantly underperformed at the box office compared to its $200 million budget.

Disney’s Snow White live-action remake earns 2.5 out of 4 stars from Us Weekly movie critic Mara Reinstein. Heigh-ho, heigh-ho. Unless you want to distract a child for a few hours, Snow White is a no-go. Take it as a faint compliment. Considering the exhaustive controversy and the deafening bad buzz (with a scaled-back Los Angeles premiere to show […]

Gadot recently appeared on The A Talks, which aired on Israel’s Channel Keshet 12 network, and she fielded a question about why the film was considered a “major flop.”

“I was sure that this movie was going to be a huge success, and then October 7 happened,” Gadot told reporters, per The Jerusalem Post, referring to Hamas’ 2023 terrorist attack. “What’s happening in all kinds of industries, and also in Hollywood, is that there’s a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel.”

In her Sunday social media message, Gadot clarified that anti-Israel perspectives were not to blame for the movie’s lackluster box office standing.

“Of course, the film didn’t fail solely because of external pressures,” Gadot wrote. “There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails. Success is never guaranteed.”

During her original interview, Gadot also noted that the entire production was a pleasurable experience.

“First of all, I have to say that I really enjoyed filming this movie,” she said at the time. “I even enjoyed working with Rachel Zegler. We laughed, we talked and it was fun.”

Snow White had previously sparked backlash for its many deviations from the original source material, including criticism of Zegler’s Latinx heritage.

“I interpret people’s sentiments towards this film as passion,” Zegler, 24, told Vogue Mexico in a March interview, addressing the backlash. “What an honor to be a part of something that people feel so passionately about. We’re not always going to agree with everyone who surrounds us and all we can do is our best.”

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is Another Hit Remake at the Box Office http://livelaughlovedo.com/how-to-train-your-dragon-is-another-hit-remake-at-the-box-office/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/how-to-train-your-dragon-is-another-hit-remake-at-the-box-office/#respond Mon, 16 Jun 2025 03:43:44 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/06/16/how-to-train-your-dragon-is-another-hit-remake-at-the-box-office/ [ad_1]

A second live-action remake has hit theaters with Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon, and shocker, it’s taking off big.

Per Variety, the film has opened to $197.8 million worldwide. Of that, $114 million came from the international market, with Mexico, the UK and Ireland, and China listed as big contributors. Critic and audience reactions to the movie have been pretty solid, and it likely helps the larger How to Train Your Dragon franchise has never really went away: along with the three animated films, there’s been numerous TV shows continuing Hiccup and Toothless’ adventures over the years. Combined with trailers being in front of everything and this being the first Dreamworks movie to get a remake, it’s no wonder families and young adults flocked to see the remake, or why Universal’s already locked in a sequel for June 2027.

As for our other big summer remake, Lilo & Stitch keeps on making money. The Disney movie added another $46.6 million global to its bag, making for a new take of $858 million. Like with Dragon, the heavy lifting came from its international aduience, where its made $31.3 million, while it earned $15.5 million domestic. If things keep going the way they are, Lilo could be the first movie of 2025 to hit the billion-dollar mark in the next couple of weeks.

Dragon and Lilo will be joined by Pixar’s Elio next week as the big kid movies for a while in theaters: the older-skewing M3GAN 2.0 and F1 close out the month on June 27, then July opens with Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2) before eventually giving us Superman (July 11) and Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25). We’re fully in the summer movie season now, folks!
