As a canine enrichment expert and dog mom to a senior Labrador, I’m always on the lookout for new products that improve my pup’s quality of life. Plentum is an organic microbiome supplement for dogs that claims to support both gut and oral health.

I know there’s a strong gut-brain connection, so a healthy gut microbiome can support a better mood. Plentum also claims to help with bad breath, which is a nice bonus for my senior dog who has some plaque on his teeth.

I had a 10-day supply to try with my dog Burt, so this review is based on our short-term results. Usually, supplements like this need 3-6 weeks for the full effect. But even in the short window we had for this test, I noticed some changes worth sharing.

What Is Plentum and How Does It Work?

Plentum is a daily dog supplement in a convenient powder form. Each pre-portioned packet contains a blend of postbiotics and gut-supportive ingredients, including:

  • Colostrum: For gut health and immune support
  • Inulin: Prebiotic fiber that helps digestion
  • Vitamin E and fish oil: Skin, coat, and inflammation support, which is perfect for senior dogs

I appreciate that the ingredients are clear and straightforward. I also love the emphasis on microbiome health.

Microbiome care means keeping the balance of good and bad microorganisms in your dog’s body. Supplements like Plentum are a great way to do that.

A healthy microbiome can lead to:

  • Better digestion and nutrient absorption
  • Less gas and less stinky dog farts!
  • Fewer skin flare-ups or irritation
  • Fresher breath and healthier gums

Trying Plentum With My Senior Dog

Senior dog sniffing Plentum Advanced K9 Microbiome Care packetSenior dog sniffing Plentum Advanced K9 Microbiome Care packet

My senior Labrador, Burt, is 13 years old and still a healthy, happy guy. But he’s had a rough year. Seasonal allergies cropped up for the first time, and his sister, Lucy, crossed the rainbow bridge.

I was hopeful to see if a probiotic powder for dogs would give Burt a boost for his mind and body.

When my box of Plentum arrived, I appreciated the low-profile cardboard packaging. It was easy to store on the kitchen counter so I would remember to give it to Burt each day.

Each box has 30 single-serve packets. Since Burt weighs 85 pounds, the recommended dose is three packets a day, which works out to just over half a tablespoon of powder.

When I poured the powder into Burt’s breakfast, it didn’t have much of a smell at all. But when I added my usual splash of warm water to his food and mixed it in, the powder had a mild fishy smell.Burt’s reaction to Plentum in his food? Zero hesitation. (He is a Labrador, after all.)

Here’s what I noticed during our 10-day trial:

  • Within five days, Burt’s mood seemed brighter. He’s been missing his sister for the last two months, so I really noticed a newfound pep in his step and a sparkle in his eye.
  • No change in breath yet. That may take 2+ weeks to notice.
  • Consistent poops and no stinky farts. This supplement didn’t upset his tummy.

According to Plentum’s website, in the first 2 weeks of giving this supplement, you might notice better energy, fresher breath, and improved gut health.

I can confirm the energy part! As for plaque and bad breath, I’d need more time to know for sure. If it truly disrupts oral biofilms (also known as plaque) by 98% over time, that would be a game changer.

If your main concern is bad breath, you might also like Petful’s article on why dogs get bad breath.

Pros and Cons of Plentum

Based on a 10 day trial of Plentum with my senior dog, here are the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Human-grade, clean ingredients. There are just nine listed on the label and they’re all recognizable and easy to pronounce.
  • Gentle on the stomach and great for picky eaters because it doesn’t have any added flavor or artificial ingredients.
  • Easy-to-mix powder that can be added to meals. Nothing to chew or swallow.

Includes postbiotics, which are proven to support microbiome health and help with skin issues and inflammation.

Cons:

  • Premium price point, especially for large dogs who take a high dose
  • Only available on Plentum’s website
  • Some dogs may need a gradual introduction to new ingredients

Single-serve packets mean more packaging waste than a scoopable loose powder

Is It Safe and Backed by Research?

Plentum is made in the USA and vet-formulated, although no specific veterinarians are named.

According to their website, Plentum is NASC-compliant, which means it meets the National Animal Supplement Council’s quality standards.

There’s also research to back up the ingredients:

  • A real-world study with Beagles showed that adding inulin (like the fiber in Plentum) plus a probiotic improved gut bacteria, boosted immune function, and supported better stool quality.
  • As explained in this 2025 scientific review in Microorganisms, postbiotics (one of Plentum’s key ingredients) have been shown to help balance the microbiome, discourage harmful bacteria, and support immune health.

Where to Buy Plentum and How Much Does It Cost?

Plentum is only available through their brand website at plentum.com.

For my dog Burt’s size, a 30-day supply is $97.62, or $55.99 when you sign up for a monthly subscription.

For smaller dogs under 20 pounds, a 30-day supply is $34.99, or $29.99 with a subscription.

Curious to see how it works for your dog? You can use code FIRST15 for 15% off your first order.

If you’re shopping around for other microbiome care supplements, for comparison:

  • Native Pet Probiotic costs about $29.99/month
  • Purina FortiFlora costs $30.99/month

I’ve tried FortiFlora with Burt before in the hopes that it would improve his mood and help him feel less stressed. And honestly, 10 days of Plentum seemed to have more impact on his mood than several months on FortiFlora.

Final Verdict: Is Plentum Worth It?

For smaller dogs, Plentum could be a no-brainer daily supplement. For large dogs like Burt, the cost is a consideration.

That said, I love that it:

  • Targets both gut and oral health
  • Uses high-quality, simple ingredients

Showed a noticeable improvement in Burt’s mood in just 5 days

I’d like to try it for the full 6 weeks to see if there’s a difference in his plaque and breath.

Until then, I’d recommend it for senior dogs, immune support, and possibly for picky eaters.

As always, talk to your vet first before starting any new dog supplement.

Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin: Can a Triple-Biotic Supplement Soothe Your Dog’s Skin?  http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/native-pet-gutwell-itchy-skin-can-a-triple-biotic-supplement-soothe-your-dogs-skin/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/native-pet-gutwell-itchy-skin-can-a-triple-biotic-supplement-soothe-your-dogs-skin/#respond Sun, 05 Oct 2025 20:28:48 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/06/native-pet-gutwell-itchy-skin-can-a-triple-biotic-supplement-soothe-your-dogs-skin/ [ad_1]

If you’ve ever shared life with a dog who can’t stop itching, scratching, or chewing at their paws, you know how upsetting it is to watch. (Imagine how your dog feels). Many pet parents think itchy skin is a surface issue, but the reality is much deeper than that.

Your dog’s skin is their largest organ, and at least 70 percent of their immune system lives in their gastrointestinal tract, or gut. You can imagine then what happens when your dog’s gut or microbiome is out of balance. Symptoms include irritated skin, redness, and persistent scratching or itching.

As a lifelong Cocker Spaniel mom and pet industry pro, I see thousands of products pass my desk every year. When Native Pet created GutWell Itchy Skin, it immediately stood out because it’s designed to support skin health by targeting the gut.

Curious whether this approach could actually help, I tried GutWell Itchy Skin with my own itchy dog, Sir Alvin, for a few weeks. What follows is my Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin review so you can decide whether it’s worth adding to your dog’s daily regimen.

Product Overview and Target Purpose

Instead of masking symptoms on the outside, Native Pet takes an inside-out approach with a triple-biotic blend to help restore balance where it starts: in your dog’s microbiome. Native Pet is on the cutting edge with their new product because veterinary dermatology is evolving. The gut-skin axis is of significant importance because it examines how your dog’s digestive system and skin health are connected.

Since the immune system connects both areas, inflammation in your dog’s gut can trigger skin inflammation, while skin conditions can influence digestive health. This is where a lightbulb went off for me, as my dog has a sensitive tummy and itchy skin.

Instead of treating skin issues with creams or shampoos and a sensitive tummy with diet changes, vets are now looking deeper, and that’s where Native Pet comes in with their targeted approach, because better skin health starts in the gut.

GutWell Itchy Skin is one of the most unique I’ve encountered. Each 12.07-ounce bag contains 60 scoops of cold-pressed pellets, carefully formulated to be highly palatable. My dog is a fusspot, and he didn’t mind the daily addition to his meals. I appreciate that it is vet-formulated and developed by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, free from artificial ingredients and fillers. Its target purpose is three-fold:

  • Help reduce itching
  • Promote a healthy skin barrier
  • Promote skin hydration
Hand holding Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin cold-pressed supplement pellets.

Ingredient Breakdown and Mechanism

My dog is fussy about what goes into his mouth, and so am I. I’ve tried other over-the-counter supplements and treatments with varying degrees of success. Whenever I am considering giving my dog a new product, I immediately turn the bag or box around and read through the ingredients. Fortunately, I felt confident allowing Sir Alvin to consume GutWell Itchy Skin as a natural itch relief for dogs.

In each scoop, Native Pet produces a triple-biotic blend of probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics. These days, these terms get tossed around like a ship on a sea of biscuits. Native Pet is purposeful about what goes into each scoop and why. Namely:

  • Probiotics for Dogs:(L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, B. longum): Beneficial bacteria that help balance the gut microbiome and regulate immune responses linked to itchy, inflamed skin.
  • Prebiotics for Dogs (FOS, MOS, β-glucans): Fiber compounds that feed good microbes and prime immune cells, supporting a healthier inflammatory balance.
  • Postbiotic (Saccharomyces cerevisiae): Inactivated yeast components that help train the immune system and strengthen gut barrier defenses.
  • Vitamin E & Zinc: Antioxidants and repair nutrients that protect skin cells, support elasticity, and maintain the integrity of the skin barrier.

While antihistamines may alleviate mild itching, they don’t always work for dogs and can mask the root of the problem. Steroids may be helpful and fast-acting, but come with their own share of long-term side effects.

By focusing on a science-driven approach from GutWell Itching Skin that supports healthy bacteria and immune system function in the skin, pet parents can move beyond masking symptoms. Instead, we’re giving our dogs a better shot at feeling comfortable in their own skin with less itching and less chewing, and I’m all for that.

Safety, Usage & Suitability

Before anything enters my dog’s body, it’s imperative to understand the dosing, safety, and suitability for his age and size. NativePet claims its GutWell Itchy Skin helps reduce flare-ups over time, rather than masking them.

Ingredients

Each scoop of Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin combines a triple-biotic blend—probiotics (L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, L. reuteri, B. longum), prebiotics (FOS, MOS, beta-glucans), and the postbiotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae to support gut balance and immune health. Added Vitamin E and Zinc strengthen skin defenses and repair, while pork plasma, pumpkin, and flaxseed oil make the pellets tasty and filler-free.

Dosing and Administration

No worrying about messy powders or annoying liquids, as NativePet’s GutWell Itchy Skin features a straightforward scoopable system of cold-pressed pellets. Follow the chart and dosing instructions in accordance with your dog’s weight.

Back of Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin bag showing ingredients and dosage instructions.Back of Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin bag showing ingredients and dosage instructions.

Native Pet advises starting with the directed “maintenance amount” for seven days, which we did, and then increasing to the advanced support amount until results are achieved. Pet parents can then return to the maintenance amount for ongoing support. By mixing it with your dog’s food, there is no need for pill administration or hiding a supplement in food.

Safety and Care Integration

This product is suitable for dogs of all ages and sizes, but you should always speak with your veterinarian first before adding any new product or supplement to your dog’s diet. If your dog has an immune disorder, takes multiple supplements or medications, especially fiber, be sure to ask your veterinarian about adding this product.

GutWell Itchy Skin is not meant to replace, but rather to complement, any topical or prescription management your dog is presently on. As part of a comprehensive approach, Native Pet provides a long-term product for managing your dog’s dermatological health through the gut.

My Review and Feedback

I am no stranger to Native Pet products and have successfully used several with my dog over the years. I know that their integrative approach focuses on natural, high-quality ingredients and clean-label products that are backed by science. Their products are manufactured in the United States, which is important to me, and they believe in transparency, which we all appreciate.

There was zero prep time, but I did worry that adding too much of a new product too soon might upset my dog’s tummy. I cut the initial dosing in half to be on the safe side, and after a week, I increased to the maintenance amount. Sir Alvin knew something was different in his food because he had been vigorously sniffing his meals for two days before eating the contents.

For 10 days, I monitored Sir Alvin’s bowel movements and poop consistency. His poop was a bit softer at times, but it never turned into diarrhea or anything concerning, which gave me great relief. Since he was already on a probiotic for gut support before starting GutWell Itchy Skin, I chose to stop that supplement so Native Pet’s product could work its magic.

Throughout our nearly three-week trial with the product, Sir Alvin experienced no gassiness, loose stools, or unusual symptoms. It was business as usual, which gave me great relief.

Notably, the product itself has an appealing aroma, rather than a medicinal or unappetizing one, which makes it easy to give, as dogs perceive it more as a treat than an annoyance.

The packaging is just as thoughtful: Native Pet GutWell Itchy Skin comes in a sturdy, resealable pouch that keeps the cold-pressed pellets fresh. The branding is clean, modern, and easy to spot on a shelf, with clear feeding guidelines printed right on the back so you don’t have to hunt down instructions.

Pricing & Availability

Native Pet makes it easy to buy GutWell Itchy Skin through a one-time purchase or with a 15 percent subscription discount for extra savings. It comes out to $29.99 for 60 scoops, which is about a month’s supply of an innovative product to help my dog. Shipping is free, and it comes with a 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee, so it’s worth trying.

If you are a pet parent who has tried anything and everything to help your dog’s itchy skin, Native Pet’s GutWell Itchy Skin is worth trying for the price point alone. Compared to expensive vet visits, dermatology testing, and specialized diets, spending about a dollar a day for my dog’s overall comfort is well worth it.

Pros and Cons

Like all pet products, there are both advantages and disadvantages. I believe in full transparency, as Native Pet does, so here are the pros and cons of GutWell Itchy Skin:

Pros:

  • Affordably priced for everyday use on a long-term basis.
  • Simple to administer in a cold pellet format without any additives or fillers.
  • Contains a scientifically informed triple-biotic blend to support root causes of skin inflammation.
  • Native Pet has been providing helpful health solutions to dogs and cats for years.
  • Crafted by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and vet-recommended.
  • Conveniently packaged and travels easily for road trips and vacations.
  • Includes skin-supportive nutrients like vitamin E and zinc for elasticity, barrier integrity, and antioxidant defense.
  • Convenient home delivery means your dog never misses a dose.

Cons:

  • This product is relatively new to the market, so there aren’t many reviews available yet.
  • This is not a replacement for prescription allergy medications.
  • Limited published clinical efficacy.
  • This product requires consistent use to see results, and gradual improvement is expected.
  • Not widely available in retail chains, only online.
  • This product should not be used in conjunction with other GutWell products or high-fiber supplements to prevent potential digestive upset.

Final Verdict: Who Should Consider GutWell Itchy Skin?

In a world full of supplements for dogs, we highly recommend GutWell Itchy Skin from Native Pet. I had doubts at first because my dog tends to experience an upset stomach from new products or dietary additions.

After three weeks of using this product, I’ve already noticed some improvement in my dog’s itchiness. We know from recent dermatologic bloodwork that he’s allergic to specific environmental triggers like grass and pollen, so it’s encouraging to see progress despite those challenges. GutWell Itchy Skin is helping to promote a healthier skin barrier, and I’m optimistic that his itchy flare-ups will continue to ease over time.

I would not recommend this product for dogs that require immediate itch relief, those taking multiple gut supplements, or those with severe skin issues that require a stronger and more targeted solution. Always talk to your dog’s veterinarian or veterinary dermatologist before starting any new supplements.

Native Pet’s GutWell Itchy Skin is a gut-first approach that’s worth trying if you’re looking for long-term relief from itchy skin, especially when combined with other allergy-management tools.

Do Cordyceps Really Help Dogs? We Tried HEH PAWS to Find Out http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/do-cordyceps-really-help-dogs-we-tried-heh-paws-to-find-out-2/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/do-cordyceps-really-help-dogs-we-tried-heh-paws-to-find-out-2/#respond Wed, 01 Oct 2025 19:54:01 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/02/do-cordyceps-really-help-dogs-we-tried-heh-paws-to-find-out-2/ [ad_1]

I’ve worked in the pet industry for nearly two decades, which means I’ve seen more dog supplements cross my desk than I can count. If you’re as fussy as I am about what goes into your dog’s body, you want to understand the reasoning behind every ingredient.  With so many options out there, what makes one brand stand out? For me, it comes down to trust—clear ingredient choices, thoughtful formulations, and a mission that puts pets’ long-term health first.

That’s exactly why HEH Paws caught my attention. As someone who has cared for Cocker Spaniels for years—one of my beloved dogs battled both an immune disorder and heart disease—I can’t help but wish my latest discovery had been available years ago.

Petful may earn a commission if you click on our links and make a purchase. This comes at no extra cost to you and helps us continue providing trusted pet product reviews.

Today, my 3½-year-old American Cocker Spaniel, Sir Alvin, is a prime candidate for daily supplementation. He’s past the “puppy years” and at the perfect stage to start a daily supplement routine.

Over the past several weeks, I added HEH Paws Daily Wellness Blend to his breakfast. What follows are the results of our trial and why pet parents interested in natural supplements for longevity and immune support for dogs should consider them, too.

What Are Cordyceps for Dogs?

While most dog supplements target joints, skin, or general wellness, HEH Paws’ veterinarian-guided daily supplement tackles what co-founder Dr. Chan Maketon calls “the body’s engine,” your dog’s cardiovascular system.

What sets HEH Paws Wellness Blend apart for me is the inclusion of its proprietary cordyceps blend, which they call CordyBoostTM. In nature, cordyceps are a genus of fungi believed to support dogs with:

  • Endurance and recovery
  • Energy levels
  • Immune function support
  • Overall general vitality
  • Respiratory health
  • Anti-inflammatory effects

Cordyceps are thought to improve oxygen utilization in the body, which may in turn support endurance and cardiovascular function, which is fantastic for all dogs, but especially for those with early or mild heart issues. Because I feed my dog a healthy diet and provide him with daily mental and physical stimulation, adding cordyceps to his intake gives me great comfort and peace of mind. The fact that cordyceps have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for centuries now aligns with modern canine applications to better manage the health of our four-legged friends.

According to Thorne Vet, “Cordyceps is often used in pets with chronic conditions such as fatigue, respiratory issues, or weakened immunity. Additionally, its antioxidant properties help protect cells from oxidative damage, making it a versatile supplement for promoting overall vitality.”

Fun fact: The Cordyceps mushroom is known for helping pets cope with stress, enhancing immune function, boosting energy levels, improving stamina, and much more.

Trying HEH PAWS With My Dog

The container of HEH Paws Daily Wellness Blend arrived in an eco-friendly jar. The contents are a powdery texture made without artificial flavors, fillers, soy, or gluten. For my medium-sized dog weighing about 27 pounds, each jar will last about 30 days.

Putting my dog mama research hat on again, I noticed the product is made in the United States and touted as ideal for picky eaters, both of which gave me great relief. My dog tends to get tummy upset with anything new, so we eased into HEH Paws slowly.

Rather than give Sir Alvin the recommended one teaspoon per day, we started on half the dose for the first week to see how he’d react. It mixed easily into his food, and he never turned his nose up at his meals. He did have one instance of mild digestive upset as his system adjusted to the new ingredients, but it was brief and resolved quickly.

After using the product for three weeks, I didn’t notice any immediate changes, but I believe that anything worth lasting results takes time to work. I plan to continue using HEH Paws Daily Wellness Blend because I am a fan of each ingredient and its benefits.

What’s Inside HEH Paws?

I’m all about science and fact-based information when considering something new for my dog’s diet. I’m the same way about my own supplements, so knowing HEH Paws takes a science-based approach to their products is appreciated.

For example, Professor Dr. Kris Angkanaporn, DVM, helped fine-tune the formula with what he describes as “clean, science-backed ingredients developed with real purpose, not just trends.” And the ingredient list is very impressive:

  • Heart Health: CordyBoostTM, Taurine, Co-enzyme Q10, L-Carnitine, DHA
  • Joint Mobility: Collagen Type II (Chicken), Glucosamine HCl, MSM, Chondroitin Sulfate, Hyaluronic Acid
  • Immune Defense: CordyBoostTM, Zinc, Vitamin C
  • Skin & Coat Health: Chicken Bone Broth Powder, Egg Yolk Powder, Collagen Type II (Chicken), Zinc
  • Energy & Stamina: CordyBoostTM, Taurine, Co-enzyme Q10, L-Carnitine, Chicken Liver Powder, Chicken Powder
  • Antioxidant Protection: Vitamin C, Co-enzyme Q10, Blueberry Extract, Rosemary Extract
  • Circulation & Blood Flow: CordyBoostTM
  • Gut Health & Digestion: Chicken Bone Broth Powder, Pumpkin Powder, Bacillus coagulans, Enterococcus faecium, Yeast Extract, Goat’s Milk Powder
  • Inflammation & Recovery: CordyBoostTM, Co-enzyme Q10, MSM
  • Brain Function: DHA
  • Eye Health: Taurine, DHA, Egg Yolk Powder
  • Liver & Detox Support: Taurine, Chicken Liver Powder, Yeast Extract, Beef Liver Powder, Chicken Powder

Of note, my dog is very sensitive to any sort of poultry product, so the chicken powder could have upset his tummy once.

Fun fact: The “HEH” in HEH Paws stands for Healthy dogs, through science-backed ingredients. Eco-Friendly choices, from packaging to production. Harmony between nature, pets, and people. The vet-guided formula is made by a small, family-run team of scientists who also love dogs!

Pros & Cons of HEH PAWS

HEH Paws has compelling advantages and a few notable limitations that pet parents should be aware of before making a purchasing decision. Always talk to your veterinarian before adding any new supplement to your dog’s routine.

Pros

  • Easy-to-administer powder formula that blends well into your dog’s food
  • Ideal for pet parents who want something for joint support
  • Targeted heart health approach with a concentrated formula
  • Ideal for picky eaters
  • Clean ingredients without fillers
  • Veterinarian-research backed
  • Suitable for dogs of all ages (check with your vet first)
  • CordyBoostTM blend and other ingredients are evidence-based

Cons

  • Premium pricing for premium ingredients
  • Limited retail availability (order from the HEH Paws site)
  • Results vary by dog, and there are no guarantees
  • Contains chicken powder and beef liver powder

Is HEH Paws Safe and Evidence-Backed?

Cordyceps are gaining traction within integrative veterinary medicine. While synthetic medications may cause adverse side effects, Thorne Vet says cordyceps provide gentle but effective support for long-term health without causing adverse side effects.

When my second Cocker Spaniel, Dexter, was under the care of a board-certified veterinary cardiologist, he suggested we add certain supplements to his diet, including L-carnitine. Fortunately, HEH Paws includes L-carnitine and taurine in their Wellness blend, and both are widely studied for cardiac support.

You must discuss adding any new supplements with your veterinarian and/or your dog’s care providers, as they can best determine if HEH Paws does not interfere with other supplements or medications your dog is currently taking.

Where to Buy & Pricing

Currently, the HEH Paws Daily Wellness Blend is available for purchase directly from their website. I encourage pet parents to try a jar and consider a subscription option to save money and never miss a dose. Subscribers save 20 percent on every shipment. You may pause or cancel at any time, so you are not tethered to a product you no longer need.

With one jar lasting 30 days at $49, HEH Paws costs about $1.63 per serving. Competitor supplements vary widely, but if a 30-pound dog requires one capsule of a competitor’s product, it comes out to about $1.10 per day. For me, the reward is worth the cost, and I am sure dedicated pet parents feel the same way. You get what you pay for, and when it comes to my dog’s health and well-being, I am very meticulous and picky.

Final Verdict: Is HEH Paws Worth Trying?

If you are a dog mom or dad who is holistic-minded, believes in heart and immune system support, and wants to keep your dog in good shape at any life stage, I recommend trying HEH Paws.

Yes, I would continue using this product because:

  1. I don’t notice any side effects are concerns with my dog while taking it
  2. It is affordable and well-researched
  3. Each ingredient is included with a specific purpose in mind, not just as “filler”
  4. It is veterinarian-backed and formulated

In the event your dog has pre-existing conditions or cardiac concerns, make sure HEH Paws is a welcome addition to your pup’s daily regimen. I talked to Sir Alvin’s vet before starting this supplement, and she gave me the go-ahead.

Do Cordyceps Really Help Dogs? We Tried HEH PAWS to Find Out http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/do-cordyceps-really-help-dogs-we-tried-heh-paws-to-find-out/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/do-cordyceps-really-help-dogs-we-tried-heh-paws-to-find-out/#respond Thu, 18 Sep 2025 18:37:07 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/18/do-cordyceps-really-help-dogs-we-tried-heh-paws-to-find-out/ [ad_1]

  5. It is made in the USA

In the event your dog has pre-existing conditions or cardiac concerns, make sure HEH Paws is a welcome addition to your pup’s daily regimen. I talked to Sir Alvin’s vet before starting this supplement, and she gave me the go-ahead.

As the pet health industry continues to improve and grow, we are becoming more aware of ways to help keep our dogs healthier for longer. Just like humans, dogs can benefit from the use of various supplements to support overall health and help with different ailments. While you may have heard of Embark from their dog DNA tests, you may not be aware that they also specialize in dog supplements.

Embark dog supplements are science-backed and designed to support allergies, joint health, and overall health. This article will provide a review of Embark’s Multi, Joint, and Allergy supplements.

Product Overview

Embark’s mission is to give dogs happier, healthier, and longer lives, and this has driven their development of a variety of supplements that support dog health. Let’s take a closer look at three of their most popular supplements and their intended benefits:

Embark Joint Supplement:

If your dog is showing signs of aging, you’re most likely noticing some reduced mobility. Whether it’s lying down more often, avoiding jumps, or not being able to climb on the couch as nimbly, joint pain is often at the core.

Embark Joint Supplement is formulated to support hip, knee, and overall joint health. It contains glucosamine, MSM, and chondroitin to help maintain healthy cartilage and connective tissues. While many pet parents wait until their dog is showing signs of slowing down before beginning a joint supplement, it can also benefit active dogs to help maintain their joint health.

Embark Allergy Supplement:

In many parts of the country, both humans and dogs suffer from seasonal allergies. Whether it’s pollen from trees, grass, or weeds, allergies can cause significant discomfort for our canine companions. Embark Allergy Supplement aims to support skin health in dogs. It contains turmeric and omega-3 fatty acids to help moisturize skin and help maintain a shiny coat. If you’ve noticed your dog licking their paws, itching, or rubbing their nose, they may be showing you they need allergy support.

Embark Multi Supplement:

While the joint and allergy supplements are geared toward specific ailments, Embark Multi Supplement is an all-in-one multibenefit supplement that is designed to support overall canine health. This supplement supports joint mobility, skin and coat health, brain function, and the immune system. Since it offers overall health benefits, it is a product for all dogs, not just those suffering from ailments. It contains glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin, and several vitamins to help support canine health. Daily multi supplements can be beneficial for all dogs, young or old!

Key Benefits and Ingredients

When it comes to supplements, Embark takes their products very seriously. Their veterinarian-formulated dog supplements use human-grade, all-natural ingredients without artificial additives. Their dog supplements also come in bacon flavor, which makes them appealing even to the pickiest of eaters!

Each supplement focuses on key benefits and has different ingredients to support the desired body systems.

Embark Joint

This soft chew supplement is designed to support joint health. Considered to be one of the best dog supplements for joint health, the all-natural Embark Joint Supplement supports hip, knee, and joint health in dogs. Here are some of its key ingredients:

  • Glucosamine – helps form cartilage for joint support
  • Chondroitin – maintains joint lubrication and supports cartilage structure
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) – supports collagen formation
  • White willow bark – natural source of salicin

Embark Allergy

Also delivered as a soft chew, the Embark Allergy Supplement is a natural skin support product that contains key natural ingredients that may soothe skin issues associated with seasonal allergies in dogs. Aside from helping with seasonal allergies, this supplement is designed to support skin and coat health. Here are some of the key ingredients for this supplement:

  • Salmon oil – contains omega-3 fatty acids that help skin and coat health
  • Turmeric – provides antioxidant immune support
  • Sunflower high oleic acid – helps maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier
  • Evening primrose oil – has gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which supports skin and coat health

Embark Multi

An all-in-one soft chew, the Embark Multi Supplement supports joint mobility, immune function, eye and brain function, skin and coat health, and antioxidant protection. Here are some of the key ingredients for this supplement:

  • Glucosamine – helps form cartilage for joint support
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) – supports collagen formation
  • Chondroitin – maintains joint lubrication and supports cartilage structure
  • Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B7, B9, B12 – support vision, skin, nail, neurological, metabolism, and overall health
  • Vitamin C – antioxidant immune support

How to Use Them Safely and Correctly

Embark is focused on providing safe and effective supplements for dogs, and a big part of that is ensuring pet parents know how to safely and correctly use their products. Each of the products have dosage instructions printed on the label. All are soft chews, so they can be given individually as a treat or mixed into your dog’s regular food. With supplements, consistency is key when it comes to seeing results! It may take a few weeks before you start noticing the benefits for your pup, so it’s important to stick with the dosing guidelines and remain consistent in giving the supplements daily.

It’s important to note that the Embark supplements are only for dogs one year old and older. Be sure to always consult with your veterinarian before starting any new supplements for your dog.

Pros and Cons

When it comes to Embark supplements, there’s a lot to feel good about. However, there are always considerations with what to give your dog. Let’s look at some of the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Veterinarian-formulated
  • High-quality, human-grade ingredients
  • No artificial additives or preservatives
  • Targeted health support
  • Bacon flavored for a more enjoyable experience
  • Available as a soft chew

Cons:

  • Only for dogs 1 year and older
  • Need to maintain consistent, daily use for optimal effects
  • Results may vary depending on individual dog health and conditions

Embark Supplement Review

Open container of Embark Joint Supplements showing soft chews designed to support your dog’s mobility and comfort.

I ordered Embark Joint Supplements to try with my six-year-old dog. He is very active but has been slowing down in comparison to our other dogs recently. The reviews about how this supplement helps support active dogs’ joint health sounded appealing. It was easy to order from Embark’s website, and it came in the mail fairly quickly. The supplements are small, cube-shaped, textured, and come in a sturdy container.

When I first gave my dog the supplement, he was interested in the smell. He put it in his mouth and rolled it around a bit, most likely because the texture is different from any of the other food he has had. He slowly chewed it and then decided that he liked it!

I followed the instructions on the container for dosage suggestions and made it a part of our routine to ensure he would consistently receive the supplement daily. It did not take long for him to eagerly await the treat and gobble it up!

Perhaps most importantly, my dog did not have any negative side effects from introducing the new supplement. I did start to notice him being a bit more enthusiastic about jumping up onto the couch, where normally he would be a bit hesitant. He also seemed to run longer and harder with our other dogs than he had in a long time.

Happy dog eagerly munching on an Embark Joint Supplement chew, proving healthy treats can be delicious too.Happy dog eagerly munching on an Embark Joint Supplement chew, proving healthy treats can be delicious too.

After a month of consistent use, he is benefiting from the supplement. He’s less hesitant to run and play and seems to be keeping up with the other dogs better than before! I’m glad that we are starting joint support for him now, because it will help protect him from significant joint issues as he ages.

Final Verdict: Are They Worth It?

If you’re looking for dog supplements that have natural ingredients, are formulated by veterinarians, and are appealing to dogs, Embark dog supplements are worth the investment. Embark offers discounts with subscription purchases, but also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the supplements.

Embark’s supplements are comparable in price to other brands that offer a similar quality product. However, other supplements may contain artificial ingredients and may not be science-backed.

Overall, Embark’s supplements offer a convenient and effective way to support various aspects of canine health. Dogs love them, and you can see the results!

Goat Milk for Dogs and Cats, and More: Is Brutus Broth a Good Buy? http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/goat-milk-for-dogs-and-cats-and-more-is-brutus-broth-a-good-buy/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/pets-and-animals/goat-milk-for-dogs-and-cats-and-more-is-brutus-broth-a-good-buy/#respond Fri, 11 Jul 2025 16:36:50 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/11/goat-milk-for-dogs-and-cats-and-more-is-brutus-broth-a-good-buy/ [ad_1]

Goat milk for dogs and cats has made quite a splash in recent years. The reason for this alternative milk’s popularity? It’s nutritious and easy for pets to digest. We tested out Brutus Broth’s new shelf-stable goat milk and a few other products. Here are our honest thoughts about this new product.

Who is Brutus Broth?

Brutus Broth was founded by Sue Delegan—the CEO—and Kim Hehir—the company’s President—back in 2017. The idea for the company started on Thanksgiving Day 2016, when someone asked how Sue’s dog Brutus had lived for so long; He was a 135 lb Greater Swiss Mountain dog who was over 13 years old. She attributed his longevity to both love and adding homemade bone broth to his diet.

Many asked Sue why she made Brutus his broth at home as opposed to purchasing it – at the time finding pet-safe bone broth was challenging and incredibly expensive. After extensive research, Sue and Kim launched Brutus Bone Broth in 2017 in an effort to make bone broth for dogs more accessible and affordable.

The beef and chicken broths have thousands of positive reviews. The bone broth is all natural, human-grade and formulated with both glucosamine and chondroitin, both of which can provide dogs with added hip and joint support. The company has recently launched its goat milk.

According to its website, Brutus Broth is committed to sustainability efforts like its eco-friendly manufacturing practices and sustainable packaging, enhancing all meal types for animals and giving back via to charities that support animals.

Why Try Goat Milk for Dogs?

Goat milk for dogs has become more popular for many reasons. For starters, goat’s milk can be easier to digest than cow’s milk. This is due to lower levels of lactose and smaller fat particles. It also has slightly higher levels of certain nutrients than cow’s milk. Goat’s milk tends to be higher in calcium, protein, fat, potassium, phosphorus, niacin and vitamin A, according to the University of California, Berkeley.

According to a study published in Food Science & Nutrition, “goat milk proteins contain higher levels of certain amino acids such as tryptophan and cysteine.”

In other parts of the world, goat’s milk is consumed more widely than cow’s milk, according to the University of Michigan. Pet owners can use goat milk to increase hydration or mix it with dry food for a healthy boost.

Brutus Broth Goat Milk for Dogs: A Closer Look

Brutus Broth’s Goat Milk comes in a 16-ounce container that’s compact and shaped like a classic, mostly square milk container. Pet owners can serve this plain in a bowl or pour it over food as a topper. Using it as a topper can help your pet chew their hard food, especially if they don’t have a lot of teeth. Although some goat’s milk isn’t pasteurized—a process of killing pathogens that can be found in milk, usually through heat—Brutus Broth’s version is pasteurized because it is aseptically packaged.

The color of the goat milk is similar to cow’s milk. Customers screw off the lid and then use a pull tab to open up the container. The packaging states that it’s intended “for dogs and cats of all life stages.”

The package recommends feeding two ounces of goat milk per 20 pounds of dog body weight.

My dog—a six-pound long-haired Chihuahua Rocket—loved this goat milk and immediately lapped it up after I poured it into a bowl. If your dog is a picky eater, this could be a good option. Rocket can be picky. I’ve had him reject treats I’ve spent a fair amount on. He also will only eat meat and bread. I can’t get him to eat fruits or veggies. I was happy that he drank it. You simply pour this out for your dog, and it’s easy to serve.

Highlights

This goat milk doesn’t need to be refrigerated before opening. After opening, the product can last for up to 30 days in the refrigerator.

The small package—it’s slightly bigger than a traditional milk carton served in elementary school—is easy to store and convenient for daily use.

This milk contains protein, fat and fiber and is gentle on stomachs. It can be a great way to give your dog extra nutrients.

Things to Consider

As with any supplements, it’s best to check with your veterinarian before giving it to your pet.

Bonus Products: Other Brutus Broth Options

Probiotic Mega Pack (Instant Bone Broth Powder)

Brutus Bone Broth Probiotic powder with pork flavor for adult dogs' digestive health support.Brutus Bone Broth Probiotic powder with pork flavor for adult dogs' digestive health support.

Brutus Broth also makes a powdered form of bone broth with added canine-specific microencapsulated probiotics—keeping them potent all the way through the digestive tract until they hit the stomach. You can serve this over top of food or mix it with water. My dog Rocket ate the powder that I put over a small piece of steak I gave him. Yes, my dog is spoiled and well loved. Plus, I loved the little plastic spoon that came in the package. It made it easy to use this product. Once mixed with water, this liquid lasts in the fridge for up to three days.

Pros: Long shelf life, immune support and palatable for picky dogs. Given that this is a powder, it doesn’t weigh as much as liquid bone broth and is easier to store.

Things to Consider: May require mixing effort.

At $19.99 per bag, this could be considered a tad pricey at first glance. Although it is worth noting that it makes 130 oz of broth + probiotics, making it an affordable option per-ounce.

Traditional Liquid Bone Broth

Dog enjoying Brutus Bone Broth poured over kibble for a tasty, nutritious outdoor meal.Dog enjoying Brutus Bone Broth poured over kibble for a tasty, nutritious outdoor meal.

Brutus Broth is very well known for its liquid bone broth. This comes in four flavors, including beef, chicken, pork and salmon flavored vegetable broth. We tested out the beef flavor. Brutus Broth’s is slow-simmered broth made from real beef bones. This bone broth also includes added turmeric, glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health. As this is pre-prepared, all consumers have to do is open and pour this out to serve. My dog Rocket drank his broth, but did not finish his full bowl. However, its primary use is as a topper, which makes sense.

Pros: Great aroma, boosts flavor of kibble and supports joints.

Things to Consider: Must refrigerate after opening.

Where to Buy & Pricing

Brutus Bone Broth is widely available at BrutusBroth.com, Amazon, Chewy, Petco and independent pet stores.

  • Price ranges:
    • Goat Milk: $8.99
    • Probiotic Mega Pack: $19.99 (makes 130 oz)
    • Liquid Broth: $9.99

Final Verdict: Is Brutus Broth a Good Buy?

Overall, Brutus Broth’s goat milk is a great option for pet parents. Goat milk is versatile and is typically easy for dogs with sensitive stomachs to digest. Brutus Broth’s products are convenient, affordable, made with high quality ingredients and palatable. Brutus Bone Broth also makes it easy to give your pet bone broth as it comes in a liquid and powder form.

Final Recommendation:

Brutus Broth is a wonderful choice for pet owners looking for shelf-stable, health-boosting meal toppers, especially for older dogs, picky eaters or dogs recovering from GI issues.

You’ve seen their advertisements all over social media, but you may still be wondering what PetLab Co. is and whether its products live up to the hype. In short, PetLab Co. is a popular pet wellness brand known for its dog probiotics, joint supplements, and allergy support products. We know they have great advertising, but do their products measure up? This PetLab Co. review will take a closer look at some of its most popular supplements, evaluating their potential benefits, ease of use, customer experiences, and value for money.

Not all pet supplements are created equal, so the goal when shopping for supplements is to avoid wasting your money or, much worse, harming your pet. Pet owners should always research supplements before buying, so we’ve compiled all of the key information to help you make an informed decision.

What Is PetLab Co.?

When it comes to pet products, it’s important to take a look at the company and the people behind them. After all, if a company that sells pet supplements isn’t passionate about pets, can they be trusted with the well-being of yours?

When researching PetLab Co.’s beginnings, it was refreshing to see that the co-founders are not only pet parents; they are also driven by the desire to make life better for all dogs and cats.

Petlab Co. launched in 2018. Co-founders Chris, Damian, and Matt started with a vision to create scientifically formulated supplements to optimize pet health. “My co-founders and I are pet owners ourselves, and this is what we wanted for our animals,” said CEO Chris Mansanto. “So we built it. And we’re proud to share it with the world.”

Since then, they have expanded to include product lines for cats. Focused on premium pet supplements, this company was founded by pet parents for pet parents.

PetLab Co. now offers products in four different categories:

You know what else is great? PetLab Co. is NASC certified, produces its supplements in the USA from domestic and globally sourced ingredients, and has impacted over 4 million pets globally.

This is a standard timeline to see expected benefits for most pet supplements. Overall, customers are happy with this product, though there are differing opinions about the price point.

Why It’s Suitable

Dogs with digestive or skin sensitivities can benefit from having probiotics added to their diet. One of my pups struggles with seasonal allergies, so I wanted to see if this supplement could give him some support. He loved the flavor and texture of this probiotic chew. When he saw me grab the container, he got super excited! After a few weeks of taking it, I noticed that he was licking his paws and scratching much less. When we used the last of the probiotic, the paw licking started again pretty soon after.

Customer feedback

With an average rating of 4.8 out of 5, most customers are highly satisfied with this product. This supplement is used to support dog joint health and mobility, and the majority of customers noticed a significant improvement in their dog’s mobility within even a few days of use. Some pet parents note that it took longer to notice results. Some customers reported a bit of stomach upset in the first couple of days of use, but that typically resolved quickly. The biggest concerns customers have about this product are the supplement’s price and texture.

Why It’s Suitable

My basset hound has to do lots of big jumps to get onto couches and beds, and at 6 years old, I noticed him starting to struggle a bit more. I decided to give him this joint supplement to see if it would help give him a little boost, and it did! I now notice it takes him fewer attempts to make his jumps, and he is no longer giving up on jumps like he was before. He absolutely loves this supplement’s flavor and texture and looks forward to it!

Highlights

  • Helps maintain mobility
  • It can be helpful within a few days of use
  • Great taste

Things to Consider

  • Some customers report concerns about the texture
  • The cost is higher for larger dogs

However, Nutramax has more clinical backing. Both Nutramax and Zesty Paws are also more affordable options.

Customer feedback

This product has received good reviews from customers, with an overall rating of 4.5/5. Some customers report their dogs experiencing stomach upset after using the product, while others report their dogs dislike the taste. Many report noticing positive results after using it for two or more months. While some consider the price too high, others consider it a good investment to help them avoid teeth cleaning with the vet.

Why It’s Suitable

I am, admittedly, not a diligent toothbrusher for my pups, so I was cautiously optimistic when trying this product. When I first saw and smelled the fine green powder, I was convinced they wouldn’t like it. But I could not have been more wrong! Following the directions to use a bit of water when adding it to kibble, my dogs LOVED it. They were licking the bowl clean every time! After a few weeks of using it, their breath was noticeably better. I am also seeing slight improvements with the tartar, which is pretty good for such a short period of time.

Highlights

  • Helps freshen breath
  • Targets tartar buildup
  • Dogs love the taste
  • Easy to administer by adding to food

Things to Consider

  • It is a very fine powder that would cause a mess if spilled
  • The smell is not appealing to humans
  • This product does not replace brushing for tartar control

Comparable Products

  • ProDen PlaqueOff Powder
  • VetriScience Perio Support Dental Powder

How PetLab Co. ProBright Advanced Compares

PetLab Co. ProBright Advanced is similar to ProDen’s product in pricing, however, ProDen’s PlaqueOff Powder does not contain probiotics. While VetriScience’s product is much more affordable, it is formulated with natural zeolites which are not as effective as HMP for tartar control.

Customer feedback

This seasonal dog allergy supplement has an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 on several sites, and the reviews about the effectiveness of this product are mostly positive. Customers find that this does help with allergy signs. It takes at least a couple of weeks before they start noticing the results. Many pet parents report reduced itching and fewer allergy flare-ups in their dogs while using this supplement. A general concern about this supplement is the texture, as some pet parents report that the chew is not soft enough for their dogs to eat. They also find the product a bit more expensive than others on the market.

Why It’s Suitable

After a couple of weeks of use, I noticed my dog’s eyes were no longer running, and he was no longer constantly licking his paws. Even though it is not soft like the other supplements, my dog gobbled it up and loved the taste!

Highlights

  • Reduces occasional itching
  • Reduces discomfort caused by seasonal alelrgies
  • Dogs like the taste and smell

Things to Consider

  • Dogs with sensitive teeth may have difficulty eating it
  • It takes time to start working
  • The cost

Comparable Products

  • VetriScience Allergy & Itch Support

How PetLab Co. Allergy & Immune Compares

While both Zesty Paws and VetriScience’s products are more affordable allergy supplements, they do not have as robust a formula as PetLab Co. In particular, PetLab Co. includes curcumin, omega-3 fatty acids, and colostrum, which makes it more efficient at supporting a normal inflammatory response.
