A fall foliage getaway just got cheaper. 

Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is slashing fares as fast as the leaves fall with one-way tickets as low as $44. Best of all, the discounts are available to popular leaf peeping destinations like Rochester, New York and Boston, Massachusetts (which happens to be one of the best places to travel in October).

“There’s no better way to welcome the fall season than by scoring a great deal on flights to see autumn’s changing colors,” Rana Ghosh, the senior vice president and chief commercial officer at Spirit Airlines, said in a statement. “Travelers can trade their daily views for a getaway to scenic destinations across our network while enjoying our high-value service along the way.”

In order to take advantage of the savings, travelers will need to act fast as the sale ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on Sept. 24. The fares are valid for travel between Oct. 7 and Dec. 17 with several blackout dates over peak travel days, such as Thanksgiving. The sale is also not available for travel on Fridays and Sundays. 

The discounted fares are in Spirit’s “Value” category, which is the most no frills of its fare classes and doesn’t include a carry-on or checked bag or advance seat selection in the cost of a ticket.

Travel + Leisure spotted a variety of deals still available, including some below the advertised $44 promotion to prime fall foliage markets. Travelers can score one-way flights starting at just $25 from Fort Lauderdale to Boston, for example, according to a search on Spirit’s Deal Finder. 

The fall sale comes at an inflection point for Spirit Airlines. In August, the airline entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year in an effort to restructure. The carrier vowed to continue flying, but said it would scale down its presence in certain markets as part of the process.

“As we move forward, Guests can continue to rely on Spirit to provide high-value travel options and connect them with the people and places that matter most,” Spirit Airlines’ President and CEO Dave Davis said in a statement at the time, adding “We have evaluated every corner of our business and are proceeding with a comprehensive approach in which we will be far more strategic about our fleet, markets and opportunities in order to best serve our Guests, Team Members and other stakeholders.”

We are already well into the summer travel season, and while there is still time to plan a last-minute getaway, you should also start thinking about where you might want to go this fall. This is especially true if you want to travel abroad, because you should book your flights three to five months in advance for the best deals.

Speaking of international travel deals, we found a great price on business-class flights to Dublin on Aer Lingus and American Airlines this summer and fall — both bookable via Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan — from just 45,000 miles each way.

Summer is peak season in Dublin. Crowds and airfare are typically higher, making this a great deal. If you visit in September or October, temperatures are milder (pack a sweater!), the crowds are a bit better than in the summertime, and you’ll get to enjoy the fiery orange fall foliage.

How to find and book TPG’s deal of the day

We’ve seen good availability through mid-October, but you’ll need a Seats.aero Pro account to search beyond 60 days in advance.

When compared to the cash rates, which can climb higher than $5,000 each way, redeeming as few as 45,000 miles for a business-class flight to Dublin is a great value. And, you’ll arrive well-rested and refreshed thanks to lie-flat seats and luxury inflight dining.

If you do not have Alaska miles or Bilt Points (which transfer to Alaska’s Mileage Plan at a 1:1 rate), you can also book an award flight to Dublin for 50,000 Avios through British Airways Club. While you will spend about $146 in taxes and fees for this redemption, British Airways Club is a transfer partner of most major credit card issuer programs, including American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One miles, Wells Fargo Rewards and Bilt Rewards. Therefore, it could be worth the additional 5,000 points and $120 in taxes and fees for a lie-flat business-class international seat.

Even with the additional cost, transferring and redeeming your points through the British Airways Club will still get you a value of 9.76 cents apiece.

Though British Airways Club is not a direct transfer partner of Citi ThankYou Rewards, since you can transfer Avios between loyalty program accounts, you can transfer your ThankYou Rewards points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club (an airline program that also uses Avios) and then transfer your Avios to your British Airways account.
