On Friday, October 10, Blumhouse hosted its annual BlumFest, a panel at New York Comic Con where cast and creatives–including Jason Blum–discuss the upcoming slate of projects. This year marks 15 years for the company, so fans were ready for something big.

Announcements from the panel included films like the Black Phone 2 (which releases next week), the upcoming Insidious 6, and a look at some of the game titles coming to Blumhouse Games. The announcement of Sleep Awake, a first-person psychedelic horror set in the far future, was given by none other than Nine Inch Nails’s Robin Finck, who is the game’s creative director.

The biggest draw was the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. While it seemed that the panel was beginning to wrap up and we would be left with nothing more than a brief announcement, Blum was joined onstage by the film’s director, Emma Tammi, and Elizabeth Lail, who plays Vanessa Shelly. Moments later, the stage was crashed by none other than Matthew Lillard, who plays the film’s villain, William Afton.

While no additional trailer or footage was shown, fans were treated to a horrifying sight: Out of the darkness of the wings ambled two life-size animatronics of Toy Freddy and Toy Bonnie. While I wilted in horror, the rest of the room screamed their delight as the voice actors behind these wretched costumes were revealed.

Surprise casting announcements ahead

Toy Freddy will be voiced by Kellan Goff, who voiced Glamrock Freddy, Sun, and Moon in the game Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. Toy Bonnie will be voiced by none other than Matthew Patrick (MatPat) of the YouTube channel The Game Theorists.

One final announcement was made, and was undoubtedly the most shocking of them all: Toy Chica as played by Megan Fox. Though Fox could not be at the panel, her involvement seemingly comes down to her kids being fans of the material.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 hits theaters December 5. The fate of a third installment is still up in the air, but not for long, according to Lillard. He promised the crowd that if enough love was shown for the sequel, the third installment would be as good as guaranteed.

BlumFest felt bare this year, but many of the company’s projects are still early in development. Sleep Awake seems like the most exciting thing on their roster by far, so it will be interesting to see the fan reactions to it once it is released.

The official trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 doesn’t just introduce a new cast of animatronic nightmares; it signals a move into darker territory for the franchise. While the first relied on the familiar creep factor of Freddy Fazbear and his haunted pizzeria, the sequel is going all in on evolving the animatronics just as the games did, introducing new unnerving creations, and twisting the existing ones into something worse. The toy versions of the core mascots (and Withered Bonnie), plus Mangle, Balloon Boy, and the Puppet, are here to terrify, escalate the stakes, and make FNaF 2 feel less like a haunted house and more like a predator’s playground.

With Jim Henson’s Creature Shop once again crafting the animatronics, the sequel’s new mechanical villains don’t just look real; they feel alive. The trailer’s glimpses of Mangle’s twisted limbs glinting in the low light, Balloon Boy’s hollow-eyed grin, the Puppet’s ominous claws, and Withered Bonnie’s nightmarish overall appearance are enough to confirm that these characters will push the boundaries of practical horror. Thanks largely to them, FNaF 2 is shaping up to be far more unhinged than its predecessor.

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Introduces a Terrifying New Threat in Mangle

Mangle has always stood out as one of the most disturbing characters in the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe, but the live-action version takes things to another level. Unlike the more polished toy animatronics, Mangle isn’t just broken but something else entirely. The design, with its spider-like body and dangling parts, makes Mangle feel less like a malfunctioning mascot and more like a mechanical predator that’s been cobbled together for the sole purpose of hunting. In the trailer, Mangle’s movements, whether it’s hanging from ceilings, riding atop a car, or lunging from above, lend her a feral unpredictability. She’s the kind of threat that doesn’t just appear in doorways or security feeds — she comes for you from angles you can’t anticipate, just as she did in the games.

This chaotic energy feeds into one of the series’ more popular fan theories that Mangle is responsible for the “Bite of ‘87,” the infamous incident where a victim’s frontal lobe was bitten out, leaving them permanently wounded by the attack. Whether or not FNaF 2 will directly confirm this piece of lore for the film franchise remains to be seen, but the trailer does lean into the exact behavior that earned her this reputation in the first place. There’s a shot of Mangle grabbing someone from above that showcases exactly how predatory and unexpected she can be. If the first film was about surviving the night, the sequel looks like it’s about surviving Mangle based on its trailer.

Balloon Boy and the Puppet Step Into the Spotlight

While Mangle may be stealing most of the attention, Balloon Boy’s appearance is just as unsettling, as his design radiates eerie discomfort. That frozen, doll-like grin and glassy-eyed stare look even more wrong in live-action. The mere sight of his vacant expression, paired with the uncanny realism of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop work, is enough to make him feel like a threat waiting to come alive. Balloon Boy’s presence taps into a different kind of fear: the instinctive distrust of toys that smile a little too wide, or linger a little too long in your peripheral vision.

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2′ SDCC Footage Teases One of the Games’ Most Notorious Villains

‘Scream’ icon Skeet Ulrich will reunite with Matthew Lillard on the anticipated follow-up to the smash-hit horror movie.

Then there’s the Puppet, whose appearances in the trailer feel deliberately designed to ignite fan speculation. We see her elongated, claw-like fingers extending from above, and in another quick shot, we see her silently creeping up behind Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail), her stark black-and-white design cutting sharply through the shadows. It’s a chilling tease that hints this version of the Puppet may lean harder into a ghostly, almost spectral form of terror. Skeet Ulrich, who joined the cast of FNaF 2, teased at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 that he plays “somebody with a very particular and specific past and somebody with a very deep emotional tie to what’s going on.” Many fans believe he will portray Henry Emily, William Afton’s (Matthew Lillard) former business partner, whose daughter Charlotte — one of the franchise’s most pivotal and tragic figures — died, and her spirit possesses the Puppet. If the sequel leans into this lore, the Puppet could become not only one of the film’s scariest figures, but also one of the most emotionally resonant.

The Toy Animatronics Aren’t Playing Around

Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, and Toy Chica might look shinier and more “kid-friendly” than the original animatronics, but the FNaF 2 trailer makes it clear they’re far from playful. Their wide, glassy eyes and eerily smooth plastic faces make them feel like corrupted toys, designed to lure before they strike. Their overall appearances suggest predators that stalk in plain sight, replacing the slow-burn tension of the first film with a relentless, in-your-face menace. Plus, the trailer concludes with a terrifying flash of Withered Bonnie, his decayed frame and gaping hole where a face should be, curating a single image that feels like the stuff of pure nightmare fuel, likely because that’s exactly what he will (and should) be.

The sequel has a chance to explore the emotional weight of the hauntings further, connecting Afton’s crimes to the animatronics terrorizing the night. With Mangle’s chaotic violence, Balloon Boy’s uncanny presence, the Puppet’s spectral menace, and the Toy Animatronics’ deceptively cheerful designs, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 looks poised to take the franchise’s horror to a new, lore-driven level. The first movie proved that FNaF could work in live action and cracked open the door to Freddy Fazbear’s haunted legacy. The sequel looks ready to kick it off its hinges, letting Mangle, the Puppet, and their twisted companions drag the franchise into a much more terrifying chapter.
