The Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA) runs a free program that allows creators to certify that their hardware complies with the community definition of open source hardware.  Whenever you see the certification logo, you know that the certified hardware meets this standard.

Currently, the Certification database lists over 3154 individual certifications! In August we added 28 new certifications, from sutures to LEDs, and everything in between! Here are three certifications we think you should check out today.

This new compact dev board is putting Algeria on the certification map! Omnimo nRF52840 features Nordic’s nRF52840 multiprotocol SoC with the support of Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth mesh, NFC, Thread, and Zigbee. It’s compatible with over 2,000 add-on boards and has wired and wireless capabilities. It’s perfect for home assistant projects and is designed to keep all those important buttons accessible. Did we mention it’s up on Crowd Supply right now too?

Dronecoria Frame

An exciting project to be able to do aerial sowing and ecosystem restoration, the Dronecoria Frame is a design made using laser-cut plywood and 3D printing. This design is modifiable, repairable, and sits at a much lower price point than conventional seeding drones. The Dronecoria crew is working hard to create more ways to bring open source designs to large-scale reforestation. Currently, they are partnering with organizations and universities around the world for direct seeding projects for ecosystem restoration.

The citizen-driven open source rocketry project coming out of Mexico has launched the Léon 300. This exceptionally cool project is the fourth certification from Space NL that’s working to democratize and demystify rockets. The Léon 300 is 3” in diameter and 90–180 cm long, designed for medium power engines. It’s got three stability settings and utilizes 3D-printed components with PVC, cardboard, or fiberglass pipe compatibility.

Open Source Hardware Certifications for July 2025 http://livelaughlovedo.com/open-source-hardware-certifications-for-july-2025/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/open-source-hardware-certifications-for-july-2025/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 18:42:48 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/01/open-source-hardware-certifications-for-july-2025/ [ad_1]

Open Source Hardware Certifications for July 2025

The Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA) runs a free program that allows creators to certify that their hardware complies with the community definition of open source hardware.  Whenever you see the certification logo, you know that the certified hardware meets this standard.

Currently, the Certification database lists over 3107 individual certifications! In July we added 43 new certifications, and we were happy to have new and recurring names show up! Here are three certifications we think you should check out today.

Auckland Live Train Map

As a real train enthusiast, live mapping of train networks makes me so happy! This Auckland  train map is such a delightful project, especially the live train movements moving across the network. Dirks included some great features like having over 150 lights, live-updates, and adjustable brightness all powered by the infamous ESP32. There’re quite a few projects out there that track different transit systems, but this is the first one we’ve got in the certification database. And now it’s on the bucket list of transit networks I’d love to visit one day.

VESA ESP

Our very first Serbian certification in the database is the VESA ESP, a tool to reuse old monitors. It’s always exciting to get a new country on the certification map, and this is such an excellent project too! It’s far too common for folks to collect monitors that never get used for anything, and this mount can bring your old monitors into the ultimate retro setup. Welcome to the map, Serbia!

Physarum Smartwatch

This is probably one of the coolest smartwatches you’ll ever see in your life. The Physarum Smartwatch actually utilizes slime mold as a ‘living wire’ to complete the circuit and enable a heart rate sensor within. Not only do you have to take care of yourself, but you have to keep the slime mold healthy to have the watch function. One of the most fascinating things about physarum polycephalum is that it will go dormant without care but can be revived when care resumes, something that’s important to remember for most living creatures in this world. A little care goes a long way.

Open Source Hardware Certifications for June 2025

The Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA) runs a free program that allows creators to certify that their hardware complies with the community definition of open source hardware.  Whenever you see the certification logo, you know that the certified hardware meets this standard.

Currently the Certification database lists over 3064 individual certifications! In May we added 35 new certifications, from green houses to trackballs, and we were happy to have new and recurring names show up! Here are three certifications we think you should check out today.

Little Green House

We are so excited to have our very first certification from Luxembourg in with the Little Green House! This handy little guy will help you maintain your greenhouse (or whatever version of plant keeping you do) with ease by automating watering, lighting, and humidity control. Plus it’s got an RTC and a peristaltic pump! It’s designed to work with the Arduino IDE and it a great system for anyone who wants to delve into the world of plantcare automation.

QuakeCord

UID TW000006

There’s more and more people dealing with the realities of an unstable environment and the spread of natural disasters as our climate changes, and this simple ESP32 powered device can help track earthquakes in your area. The QuakeCord will detect an earthquake, record the acceleration and notify through Discord right to your phone so you can know what’s happening. This is a really interesting sensor project that we haven’t seen come up in this way before and we’re super intrigued to see people putting it to use and gathering the data for further research.

Ploopy Nano Trackball

UID CA000066

Simplicity is often the key to a beautiful design and Ploopy Corporation has certainly pulled it off with their new Nano Trackball. This gorgeous ball can come in red, blue or black and as a kit or preassembled for you to enjoy tracking immediately. Its sleek design is ideal for anyone who wants an accurate, crisp experience. We can just tell from image alone that it would have such an excellent hand feel, we hope you will have the time of your life rolling that trackball around and enjoying some sweet, comfortable scrolling. Also if you’re curious about Ploopy’s work overall you can watch their amazing talk for OHS2024 right here!
