Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has taken some inspiration from Apple’s Liquid Glass design language for its latest operating system update, OriginOS 6. Unveiled this week, OriginOS 6 has the same rounded buttons and translucent glass look as iOS 26.

In a demo video, a Vivo smartphone features an interface that could be easily mistaken for ‌iOS 26‌. There’s a Liquid Glass clock, Control Center, squircle icons, glass-like rounded buttons, translucent app folders and dock, translucent notifications, and even wallpapers that shift with a 2D to 3D effect like Apple’s Spatial Scenes.

There is no mistaking the Liquid Glass design influence even though Vivo references water when describing the operating system. “With OriginOS 6, every swipe, scroll, and tap flows like never before. No lags. No stutters. Just effortless motion built for the way you move,” reads some of the marketing material for the update.

This Smart iOS 26 Feature Could Boost Your iPhone Battery Life: All About Adaptive Power http://livelaughlovedo.com/this-smart-ios-26-feature-could-boost-your-iphone-battery-life-all-about-adaptive-power/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/this-smart-ios-26-feature-could-boost-your-iphone-battery-life-all-about-adaptive-power/#respond Wed, 08 Oct 2025 12:39:24 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/08/this-smart-ios-26-feature-could-boost-your-iphone-battery-life-all-about-adaptive-power/ [ad_1]

The batteries in the iPhone 17 series offer longer use before they need to be charged, especially the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which delivers “the best battery life of any phone that CNET has ever tested,” according to managing editor Patrick Holland in his review. That’s partially due to physically larger battery sizes — but that isn’t the whole story.

A new software feature in iOS 26 called Adaptive Power also contributes to improved battery life. It’s enabled by default on Apple’s latest phones, but also available on older models that support Apple Intelligence.

Currently, the iPhone uses as much power as it needs to perform its tasks. You can extend the battery life by doing a number of things, such as decreasing screen brightness and turning off the always-on display. Or, if your battery is running low, you can turn on Low Power Mode, which limits background activity, like fetching mail and downloading data, along with dimming the screen to help extend battery life. Low Power Mode also kicks in automatically when the battery level reaches 20%.

Don’t miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. Add CNET as a preferred Google source.

If Low Power Mode is the hammer that knocks down power consumption, Adaptive Power is the scalpel that intelligently trims energy savings here and there as needed. Based on Apple’s description that accompanies the control, the savings will be felt mostly in power-hungry situations such as recording videos, editing photos or even playing games:

Apple says Adaptive Power takes about a week to analyze your usage behavior before it begins actively working. And it works in the background without needing any management on your part. Here’s how Apple describes it in the iPhone user guide: “It uses on-device intelligence to predict when you’ll need extra battery power based on your recent usage patterns, then makes performance adjustments to help your battery last longer.”

Watch this: The iPhone 17 Pro Max Has Incredible Battery Life

Which iPhone models can use Adaptive Power?

The feature uses AI to monitor and choose when its power-saving measures should be activated, so that means only phones compatible with Apple Intelligence get the feature. These are the models that have the option:

• iPhone 17
• iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max
• iPhone Air
• iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
• iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
• iPhone 16e
• iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

Although some iPad and Mac models support Apple Intelligence, the feature is only available on iPhones.

How to turn Adaptive Power on

On the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, Adaptive Power is on by default. For other models, you must opt in to use it. In iOS 26, you’ll find the Adaptive Power toggle in Settings > Battery > Power Mode. If you want to be alerted when the feature is active, turn on the Adaptive Power Notifications option.

In iOS 26, turn on the Adaptive Power setting to help extend battery life.

Screenshots by Jeff Carlson/CNET

Adaptive Power sounds like an outgrowth of Gaming Mode, introduced in iOS 18, which routes all available processing and graphics power to the frontmost app and pauses other processes in order to deliver the best experience possible — at the notable expense of battery life.

iPhone screenshot showing a notification that says "Adaptive Power: iPhone is adjusting performance to help extend your battery life."

When the iPhone is using Adaptive Power, a notification appears.

What does this mean for your charging habits?

Although we all want as much battery life as possible all the time, judging by the description, it sounds as if Adaptive Power’s optimizations will not always be active, even if you leave the feature on. “When your battery usage is higher than usual” could include a limited number of situations. Still, considering that according to a CNET survey, 61% of people upgrade their phones because of battery life, a feature such as Adaptive Power could extend the longevity of their phones just by updating to iOS 26.

I also wonder whether slightly adjusting display brightness could be disruptive, but in my experience so far, it hasn’t been noticeable. Because the feature also selectively de-prioritizes processing tasks, the outward effects seem minimal. When it’s activated on my iPhone 16 Pro, the only indication was the Adaptive Power alert that appeared.

We’ll get a better idea about how well Adaptive Power works as more people adopt iOS 26 and start buying new iPhone models. Also, remember that shortly after installing a major software update, it’s common to experience worse battery life as the system optimizes data in the background; Apple went so far as to remind customers that it’s a temporary side effect.

iOS 26 Brings Parents More Control Over Kids’ Screen Time http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-brings-parents-more-control-over-kids-screen-time/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-brings-parents-more-control-over-kids-screen-time/#respond Mon, 22 Sep 2025 11:34:35 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/22/ios-26-brings-parents-more-control-over-kids-screen-time/ [ad_1]

As a soon-to-be-parent, I’m worried about how people online will interact with my kid once they have a phone or tablet. The good news for parents struggling with this now: Apple’s iOS 26 brings more parental controls to iPhones.

Tech Tips

Parents can already control how much screen time their kids have, manage their child’s App Store purchases and more. Some of the new controls can detect and blur nudity in certain apps, and your child will have to ask for access to interact with unknown numbers.

Here are some of the kid’s safety features iOS 26 brings to iPhones. My kid’s not here yet so I couldn’t test these features myself, but I’ll report back later.

Note that many of these safety features are automatically enabled in iOS 26 as long as they are attached to a phone number and Apple account of a juvenile.

Don’t miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. Add CNET as a preferred Google source.

Approve who can and can’t contact your child

A parent watching as a child uses a cell phone and a lap top is in the foreground.

Bark

You can already block unknown numbers in Messages, and iOS 26 lets parents approve which numbers can text or call their child. When your child gets a message or a call from an unknown number, they’ll have to send a request to their parents to allow them to receive the message or call.

So if your kid’s friend wants to call them, you will have to approve their number. But if your 12-year-old is getting weird, adult-sounding messages, you can block that sender.

This feature is available on third-party apps, potentially letting parents approve who their child chats with, follows and becomes friends with in apps like Instagram, but developers of those apps have to adopt Apple’s framework first.

Blur nudity in some apps

Another child safety feature iOS 26 includes is it will blur out detected nudity during FaceTime calls and in any shared albums in Photos on your kid’s iPhone.

This is similar to a feature introduced in iOS 17 called Sensitive Content Warnings. With that feature, you could choose to blur detected nudity in content sent to you in apps like Messages. The new feature is automatically enabled for your kid’s account.

App Store changes

Apple App Store Awards Logo

Apple

Part of the safety changes in iOS 26 include updated age ratings for apps in Apple’s App Store, including indications if an app contains user-generated content, messaging, advertising capabilities or content controls.

The App Store also won’t show your child apps with ratings above their content restriction range in the App Store’s Today, Games or Apps tabs, as well as in the Editorial stories. And if an app is above your child’s content restriction range, you can make an exception for that app through the Ask to Buy feature.

Age-appropriate in-app experiences

If you approve your kid to download a third-party app onto their device, you can also choose to share their age range (e.g. 13-17) with the app’s developer. That way your kid can view content and age-appropriate features within the app without having to reveal their exact birth date or being able to circumvent age restrictions by entering an older birth date.

Apple is set to release iOS 26 on Sept. 15, and it will bring call screening and more to your iPhone then. But you don’t need the latest iOS update to use Voice Isolation, an iPhone feature that can make your calls clearer for the person you’re talking with.

CNET Tech Tips badge art

Apple introduced Voice Isolation in 2023 with iOS 16.4. The tech company added the feature, alongside Wide Spectrum, to FaceTime calls with iOS 15 in 2021, but only Voice Isolation is available for regular phone calls at this time.

When Voice Isolation is enabled, it muffles distracting background noises that interrupt your calls. That way, if you’re on a business call or catching up with friends, you won’t be interrupted by your dog’s barking or construction outside your home.

To enable Voice Isolation, you have to be on an active phone call, as the feature isn’t located in Settings. Once activated, Voice Isolation will remain on for all future calls unless you manually turn it off.

Here’s how to activate and disable Voice Isolation for phone calls. You can also check out everything to know about iOS 26.

Don’t miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. Add CNET as a preferred Google source.

How to enable Voice Isolation

1. Tap your Phone app.
2. While in a phone call, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to access your Control Center.
3. Tap Phone Controls near the top of your screen.

4. Tap Voice Isolation

Voice Isolation is enabled and the setting is highlighted.

Apple/Screenshot by CNET

To disable Voice Isolation, follow the same steps above and tap Standard in Phone Controls. This will return your microphone back to its default setting.

What are Wide Spectrum and Automatic?

Near Voice Isolation in Phone Controls, you’ll also find Wide Spectrum and Automatic. These are different mic modes you can enable.

Unlike Voice Isolation — which muffles background sounds — Wide Spectrum amplifies background sounds without affecting your voice. Wide Spectrum is useful for calls with multiple people on one phone line. That way, everyone can be heard, not just the person holding the phone. Currently, Wide Spectrum is only available for FaceTime calls. Since the feature is still present in Phone Controls, it could become available for phone calls in the future.

Automatic will choose that mode is best for your call. “For example, Automatic uses Voice Isolation to block ambient noises during calls using the receiver, and it uses the Standard mic mode for calls using the speakerphone,” Apple writes online.

Apple on Tuesday sent out invites for its annual fall iPhone launch event, which is slated for Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. PT. The company is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup, which could include a slimmer version of the phone. It could also debut the Apple Watch Series 11 and the AirPods Pro 3.

The invite for the fall event shows the title, “Awe dropping,” with a glowing Apple logo that seems to reference Siri’s colorful glow. The keynote will be held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. CNET will be covering the announcements live, so be sure to follow along.

Rumors for the upcoming slate of iPhones have been plentiful. Stealing the spotlight is the supposed iPhone 17 Air, which could follow in the footsteps of Samsung’s sleek Galaxy S25 Edge and have a slim profile and lightweight design. The Pro model could get a scratch-resistant antireflective display and an 8x telephoto lens, and the Pro Max could pack a bigger battery. The baseline iPhone 17 could also boast a higher refresh rate. It’s possible all the phones may include an Apple-developed 5G modem called the C1 chip, which debuted on the iPhone 16E, as well as in-house Wi-Fi chips.

We also expect to learn more about the public rollout of iOS 26 later this fall. The new operating system features a Liquid Glass interface that brings a more transparent, lens-like look to the iPhone and other Apple devices. The Camera app also gets a more minimalistic design, Messages lets you create polls in group chats and a new screening tool can better detect spam texts. You can check out all the features coming to iOS 26

What we might not hear as much about is the updated version of Siri that Apple unveiled at its Worldwide Developers Conference last year. The smarter version of the AI assistant has faced repeated delays and may not arrive until next year or even later. But Apple could discuss other Apple Intelligence updates and features arriving on its new devices.

CNET’s reporters will be on the ground on Sept. 9 bringing you all the latest updates and impressions of whatever Apple has in store.

iOS 26: Eight New Features in Apple Music http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-eight-new-features-in-apple-music/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-eight-new-features-in-apple-music/#respond Sat, 23 Aug 2025 01:05:31 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/23/ios-26-eight-new-features-in-apple-music/ [ad_1]

Apple has made several updates to the Apple Music app in iOS 26, and it has AutoMix, which has become one of the most popular additions. ‌Apple Music‌ also features the Liquid Glass redesign like the rest of Apple’s apps, along with new translation features and other quality of life improvements.

iOS 26 Music Glass Feature

AutoMix

AutoMix is an upgrade to the crossfade feature in ‌Apple Music‌, and it is designed to provide more seamless song transitions. It transitions from one song to another as the song that’s playing ends, using time stretching and beat matching for an undetectable shift.

apple music automix ios 26apple music automix ios 26
Apple says that AutoMix is meant to work like a DJ, with songs transitioning at the “perfect moment” based on an on-device analysis of the key and tempo of the music.

AutoMix can be enabled when opening up the ‌Apple Music‌ app for the first time after installing ‌iOS 26‌.

The feature isn’t perfect and it works better with some genres than others, but it is a work in progress that Apple is improving over time. AutoMix is not an Apple Intelligence feature, but it does require an ‌Apple Music‌ subscription.

Lyric Translation

If you’re listening to a song in a different language, you can now open up the lyrics and get a real-time translation so you know what it’s about. The translated lyrics are displayed alongside the original lyrics.

iOS 26: Everything New With FaceTime http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-everything-new-with-facetime/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-everything-new-with-facetime/#respond Fri, 15 Aug 2025 00:33:50 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/15/ios-26-everything-new-with-facetime/ [ad_1]

All of Apple’s communication apps received updates with iOS 26, including FaceTime. There’s a redesigned interface that puts more emphasis on your contacts, new translation features, and more.

iOS 26 Glass FaceTime Feature

Live Translation

Along with the Phone and Messages apps, ‌FaceTime‌ supports Live Translation as long as you have a phone that works with Apple Intelligence.

ios 26 live translation facetimeios 26 live translation facetime
With Live Translation, you can video chat with someone who speaks a different language than you do. The ‌FaceTime‌ app displays live captions that are translated into your language as the person speaks. Your response can also be translated back into their language as long as they also have a device that supports ‌Apple Intelligence‌ and runs ‌iOS 26‌, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26.

You’ll need to download language packs to use Live Translation, and it works with a limited number of languages. ‌FaceTime‌’s Live Translation feature works with English, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (Spain).

To use Live Translation on a ‌FaceTime‌ call, initiate the call and then tap on the button with three dots. From there, tap on the Live Translation option and select the to and from languages. Everything spoken will be translated and displayed in the same way Live Captions are displayed. To stop a translation, just tap on the Stop button.

Interface Updates

Apple updated the ‌FaceTime‌ interface in ‌iOS 26‌. Rather than a list of names of recent and suggested contacts, you’ll see a card-style view that includes a full image of your contact that they’ve shared, if one is available. If they’ve sent you a video message, that will automatically play in the background as you scroll for an animated look. You can tap on one of the cards to place a ‌FaceTime‌ Audio or ‌FaceTime‌ Video call, depending on how you last contacted them.

ios 26 facetime interfaceios 26 facetime interface
Long pressing on a card brings up an option to delete it.

The “New Call” button is at the bottom of the ‌FaceTime‌ app rather than at the top, and filtering options can be accessed by tapping on the menu button at the top right. When you’re on a call, the buttons are now at the bottom right of the display.

ios 26 facetime on callios 26 facetime on call
Like all of Apple’s other apps, ‌FaceTime‌ adopts the Liquid Glass aesthetic. Contact cards feature rounded corners, buttons have a rounded design, and the New Call button and some of the other interface buttons have a glass-like design.

Call Screening

Like the Phone app, ‌FaceTime‌ has new call filtering options. There’s still a Silence Unknown Callers toggle, but missed calls and voicemails from unsaved numbers will now be sorted into an Unknown Callers list that’s hidden from view unless you select it.

ios 26 facetime call filteringios 26 facetime call filtering
Calls that are identified as spam will be silenced and automatically added to a new Spam list.

Call filtering is opt-in, so if you often get calls from unknown numbers, you can turn it on. If you don’t want to miss any calls, you can leave it off. The toggle for spam and unknown callers can be found in the ‌FaceTime‌ section of the Settings app under Call Filtering.

In the ‌FaceTime‌ app, you can get to the different filtered sections by tapping on the menu button in the upper right of the app. Sections include Calls, Missed, Video, Voicemail, Unknown Callers, and Spam.

Sensitive Content Blocking

In ‌iOS 26‌, the Sensitive Content Warning and Communication Safety features are available for ‌FaceTime‌ video calls. When nudity is detected, the ‌FaceTime‌ video will pause and a warning about nude content will be displayed.

ios 26 facetime sensitive contentios 26 facetime sensitive content
Communication Safety is a feature that is designed for the accounts of children and teens, and it provides warnings if images and videos of nudity are detected. Communication Safety is on by default for accounts created for children up to age 17.

Adults can use Communication Safety features too, in the form of Sensitive Content Warnings. Sensitive Content Warnings are an opt-in feature that prevents users of all ages from being subject to unwanted nude photos and videos.

Both options blur nudity in the Messages app and pause video in ‌FaceTime‌. There is no situation where an adult will see their ‌FaceTime‌ calls paused for nudity unless they have turned on the Sensitive Content Warning feature.

Sensitive Content Warnings can be turned on in the Privacy and Security section of the Settings app. Adults can also opt to turn on Communication Safety in the Screen Time section of the Settings app.

Sensitive Content Warnings and Communication Safety use on-device machine learning to analyze photos and videos. Apple does not receive an alert that nudity was detected, and does not have access to any photos or videos.

iOS 26: See How Long Your iPhone Will Take to Fully Charge http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-see-how-long-your-iphone-will-take-to-fully-charge/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/ios-26-see-how-long-your-iphone-will-take-to-fully-charge/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 15:39:01 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/01/ios-26-see-how-long-your-iphone-will-take-to-fully-charge/ [ad_1]

In iOS 26, currently in beta, your iPhone gains a handy new charging feature that takes the guesswork out of knowing when your device will be fully powered up. Instead of waiting around or checking your battery percentage every few minutes, you can now see exactly how much time remains until your device reaches 100%.

iPhone 16 Battery Life Feature
A real-time estimate appears right in your Battery settings while your iPhone is plugged in, making it ideal for planning your day around charging cycles or working out if you have enough time for a quick top-up before heading out.

How to Check Remaining Charge Time

The process is pretty straightforward once you know where to look:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Look for the time estimate displayed next to the charging indicator (shown as “XXm”).

settingssettings

The estimate appears as a simple readout like “18m” or “45m,” giving you an immediate answer to how long you’ll need to wait for a full charge.

The feature is particularly handy if you switch between using different charging methods. For example, you can confirm if you’re using a fast charger since you’ll see a shorter wait time than if you were using a sub-standard adapter.

Not only that, if you check the same Battery menu after charging is finished and your device is unplugged, it will tell you how long it’s been since your iPhone was charged and to what percentage.

iOS 26 also provides charging details directly on your Lock Screen. When your iPhone is charging from a low battery percentage, the Lock Screen displays how long it will take to reach at least 80% charge.

And if you’re using a slower charging adapter, your Lock Screen will inform you of this as well, which should help you understand why charging might be taking longer than expected.

iOS 26 is currently in beta and is expected to see a general release in the fall.

The fourth developer beta of iOS 26 introduces 12 new CarPlay wallpapers.

CarPlay Liquid Glass Dark
The new CarPlay wallpapers are based on the official iOS 26 wallpaper for the iPhone, which has colorful semicircles with a Liquid Glass design.

MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris shared all of the wallpapers in a social media post. There are six color options, with light and dark variants for each, for a total of 12 wallpapers. The color options include blue, brown, gray, green, purple, and red.

To see the new wallpapers in CarPlay, open the Settings app and tap on Wallpaper. Of course, you will need to have an iPhone running iOS 26 connected to your vehicle. In addition to the developer beta, a public beta of iOS 26 will likely be available this week, and the update should be released to the general public in mid-September.

All of the new wallpapers can be seen below. Some of the previous CarPlay wallpapers offered on iOS 18 have been removed.

The Apple Maps app in iOS 26 includes some useful new features for keeping track of where you’ve been and getting alerts if there are any delays that will impact your daily commute. In this guide, we’ve rounded up a list of everything new with Maps.

iOS 26 Maps Glass

Visited Places

‌Apple Maps‌ is able to keep track of the places that you’ve visited, either in your hometown or while traveling. It can track the restaurants, shops, parks, and landmarks that you go to, so you can look back and remember where you’ve been.

ios 26 visited placesios 26 visited places
Google has long offered a timeline that automatically saves visits to places, and Apple’s new Visited Places option matches the functionality available in the Google Maps Timeline.

After you upgrade to ‌iOS 26‌, the Maps app pops up an alert letting you know about the new feature, so that you can opt in or opt out.

You can see your Visited Places by opening up the Maps app, tapping on your profile picture, tapping on Places, and then tapping into Visited Places. In this interface, the locations that you’ve visited are listed by month, plus there’s a search option.

There are options to change how long visits are kept (three months, one year, and forever), and to clear your current history. You can also remove locations one-by-one by tapping on them, and report incorrect location readings. When you clear your history, ‌Apple Maps‌ pops up an option that lets you clear everything or clear everything and turn off Visited Places entirely.

If you want to turn Visited Places off or enable it at a later date, you can do so by going to Settings > Apps > Maps > Location. From there, toggle off Visited Places. You can also access the toggle by going to Privacy and Security > Location Services > Maps.

Precise Location needs to be toggled on for Visited Places to work, and places that you’ve been are stored on-device. The information is not uploaded to Apple’s servers.

Preferred Routes

Using on-device intelligence, ‌Apple Maps‌ is able to learn the routes that you prefer to take to locations that you visit frequently, such as work, home, and school, and it keeps track of when you typically visit those places.

If there’s a road closure or traffic that’s going to impact your commute, the Maps app is able to alert you about the issue and offer up an alternative route so you can get there on time.

A Maps Suggestions Home Screen widget shows the same information if there are any route issues. This is an under-the-hood feature that only shows up when it’s needed, so if you have a short commute that doesn’t involve roads that frequently see traffic, you might not have it pop up.

You can turn it on or off by going to Settings > Maps > Location and toggling off the “Preferred Routes and Predicted Destinations” setting.

Liquid Glass Redesign

The Maps app has adopted Apple’s Liquid Glass redesign, and it brings some subtle interface changes. The search bar and navigation menu are translucent so you can see some of the Maps background behind it, and place icons are larger than before.

Icons have the layered glass look, and the various menus, cards, and buttons are more rounded than before. The Share Sheet has a popover design and it too is transparent.

The Library tab that was accessible when you tap your profile picture is now called Places, and it has improved spacing and a new Visited Places section.

Turn-by-turn directions are in a smaller pop-up bar rather than taking up the top of the Maps display, and time of arrival, length of travel, and distance are shown more prominently.

Voice Controls

The Voice Volume section in the Maps app is now Voice Controls, and there are added toggles for Muted, Alerts Only, or Unmuted so adjusting how turn-by-turn directions are communicated is more intuitive.

ios 26 maps voice controlios 26 maps voice control
These controls did exist in iOS 18, but only as toggles that had no explanation on the right side of the display when turn-by-turn directions are in progress.

Place Information

When you tap into or type a location on the Maps app, the Call, Menu, and Website buttons are now more prominently listed at the top of the interface, as are the location’s hours and the order option if one is available. There’s now a floating button to get directions to a place, and it’s always available at the bottom right of the app.

Improved Incident Reports

It’s easier to report an incident like a crash with a new incident button that’s located on the right side of the iPhone when getting turn-by-turn directions, and more incident types have been added.

You can report a crash, speed check, traffic, roadwork, hazard, or road closure. In ‌iOS 18‌, options are limited to crash, speed check, and hazard.
