As you may have noticed, mattress shopping holidays aren’t limited to just Memorial Day, Labor Day, or even the Fourth of July anymore. Now that Amazon Prime Day is nearly a week long, it’s become something of a holiday in and of itself, so it makes sense that mattresses (plus other bedding!) will be on sale too, both on Amazon and beyond.

We’ve listed our favorite Prime Day mattress deals that someone on our staff has tested themselves and personally vouched for. Best Prime Day Mattress Deals

For Dreamy Support

When WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins tested the DreamCloud Hybrid for our Best Cheap Mattresses guide, there were some standout (or, rather, bounce house) features to the bed. Given the hybrid construction, the memory foams and coils weren’t just supportive—they were very responsive. This kind of bouncy feel could be helpful for co-sleepers and combination sleepers who toss and turn a lot in their sleep. Molly also noted that while the bed’s edge support was an actual letdown (meaning not the most sturdy), the policies definitely weren’t. Fresh With Green Tea

I know matcha lovers everywhere just perked up, and yes, the Zinus 12-inch green tea memory foam mattress does indeed contain green tea. The premise of this all-foam mattress is the use of green tea and charcoal infused in its memory foam layers to keep out moisture that could result in germ and odor buildup. WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins also gave this bed a go and found it to be a bit too firm for her smaller stature. However, this exact reason could be beneficial for sleepers with back pain, as well as heavier sleepers, who require a firmer surface to keep their spines happy and in alignment.

For a Straight Spine

Some people swear by the power of the Plank, and two of those people happen to be testers on WIRED’s team. Reviewers Adrienne So and Nena Farrell have both spent time with this flippable, super-firm bed. Both find that it is the firm feel that plays a crucial role in maintaining spine support and keeping it from slipping and dipping into odd angles. The king-size version of the Plank Firm is on Prime Day special.

Our All-Around Fave

If you’re willing to leave Amazon, our favorite mattress ever is on sale right now with Helix’s Dream Day Sale that, funny enough, will run the length of Prime Day. Best for Back Pain

This mattress is crazy firm, even our achey side sleeper loved sleeping on it. WIRED reviewer Nena Farrell recommends sleeping on this mattress if you have back pain, and while she loved the firmest option for her spinal needs, other WIRED reviewers have confirmed the medium firmness is also much firmer than you’ll find elsewhere. It’s on sale and a great option for back support of all kinds.

After testing nearly 30 different pillows, our testers still can’t stop raving about Coop’s pillows. Spring in Your Sleep

Our favorite pillow from the Best Pillows guide comes from Purple, and it’s on sale right now. The Freeform Adjustable Pillow (and the similar, but not adjustable, Purple Harmony that’s also on sale) got loft and spring like no other pillows we tried thanks to the high-density memory foam and polyester fill that gives it a malleable center, and our spring panel all voted for Purple as one of their favorites they tried during the testing session. There’s also a gel grid layer that wraps around the pillow to keep you cool, and felt like a quilted pillow to our testers.

Affordable and Amazing

What was once an impulse purchase has turned out to be one of the best sleep-related purchases I’ve made to date. These cooling bamboo sheets feel just as buttery and luxurious as some pricier brands out there that I’ve tried. Plus, they’re on sale for Prime Day—the hard part will just be picking out what colorway you want.

Super Cooling Sheets

Lots of sheets will claim they’re cooling, but WIRED reviewer Nena Farrell has found that if there isn’t good breathability, no promise of phase change material technology will keep you cool. Slumber Cloud’s Tencel sheets are one of the only sets she likes with both PCM technology and a breathable (yet super soft!) design that will actually keep you cool all night long.

A Pillowcase for Hair Health

I see this thing all over TikTok, and I already know that silk has a lot of benefits for skin and hair health. If it’s the same targeted ads for you, now’s the time to find out for yourself if it’s the pillowcase of your dreams. As for WIRED reviewer Louryn Strampe, she mentions that the silk’s soft slipperiness (say that three times fast) is awesome, and the zipper keeps it from sliding right off her pillow.

Splurge on Sale

Cozy Earth’s bamboo sheets are some of the softest bedding you’ll ever try. These bamboo sheets are chilly and silky, but still have a cozy feel to them that you won’t find in other sheets. Crazy-Comfy Organic

Coyuchi’s sheets are seriously soft, and organic to boot. They’ll be a new pick in our next update to the Best Organic Sheets, and WIRED reviewer Nena Farrell can’t get enough of sleeping on the Cloud Soft Organic Sateen. While just the sateen sheets aren’t on sale, the sateen bundle is, which includes a duvet cover and shams to go with the sheet set. Nena loved the undyed sheets, but you can choose from a few colors, too. Coyuchi has several other sheet sets on sale to check out if sateen isn’t your weave.

For stains, cracking, sagging, dents, or anything of that nature that happen over time, you’re probably out of luck, as this is very much in the early-on sort of scenario. Similarly, let’s say that the stitching of the cover comes undone or it’s clear that the bed wasn’t put together the way it should’ve been, as it’s falling apart. This would be considered a “manufacturing defect” and also should be covered.

Here’s one very important piece of information to keep in mind if you find yourself dealing with one of these two categories: Be ready to prove it. Outlined in the fine print, and depending on the brand, you may notice that customer service mentions that images showing defects on the mattress will be needed. Some may go so far as to confirm what kind of bed frame or base you have been using, because warranty coverage does not apply if the mattress slats are spaced too widely apart.

Always use your mattress properly. If there are signs you were using it as your own personal trampoline park, the warranty is most likely void.

Pinpointing the Deals

Buying in person has its perks, too, and can’t be written off completely. The biggest one? Some folks just prefer to lay eyes (and of course, their physical selves) on a bed before buying. That is totally understandable. You may also have the opportunity to negotiate your final price, and it’ll likely go home with you that very day instead of taking a few days or even a week. Some companies will also offer sleep trials, like Mattress Firm. If you’re going to shop in person, it’s very important to consider the reputation of the company behind the brick-and-mortar location.

Plenty of online mattress brands, like Saatva and Casper, have their own storefront locations scattered across the contiguous United States. The beauty of having both an online and physical presence is that the deals can be lateral.

Saatva offers the same discounts online, in stores, and over the phone, so every customer gets the same price, says Gale. And there are often added discounts worth paying attention to: “At Saatva, for example, we offer special discounts to military veterans, teachers, health care workers, and other groups. You might want to ask whether you can get a bundled discount based on the products you’re interested in, like a mattress and base combo or a mattress and bedding bundle.” You can also shop at opportune times, and Gale suggests key holidays like the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Black Friday.

Throw It in the Actual Cart

On the other hand, there are some brands that will put their merchandise in third-party storefronts. If you choose to go down the third-party route, make sure it is, in fact, partnered with the brand. Gale warns that unauthorized stores may sell mattresses with limited or no warranty coverage, which increases your risk if something goes wrong. This doesn’t always mean that you are covered under the brand’s warranty policy if you purchased from a partner store. Instead, you might have to rectify any issues like defects with the store itself. But sometimes, you are good to go. “Verified vendors also typically provide stronger customer support, more flexible return policies, and added transparency—sometimes even enhancing the manufacturer’s warranty,” he says. To figure out which of these will be the case for you, read the mattress warranty and policy information thoroughly.

Fine Print Reminder

So if you take away nothing else from this, always, always read the fine print of a mattress warranty. It’ll help you create a checklist of items to look for regarding the purchasing process. While this is additional work on top of figuring out the particular mattress you’re homing in on, it really aims to provide you with peace of mind.
