Happy New Music Friday! The weekend is here, which means more streaming, new playlists and the best that music has to offer — and ET has you covered for everything in between.

The world’s largest fan-voted award show, American Music Awards, will be taking place May 26 in Las Vegas. Sir Rod Stewart will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement and will take the AMAs stage for the first time in more than 20 years. Janet Jackson will be honored with the Icon Award and deliver her first television performance in 7 years. Jennifer Lopez first hosted the awards in 2015 and will return to host and perform this year. The awards will air May 26 on CBS and Paramount+.

Kendrick Lamar is a top nominee with 10 nominations at American Music Awards. He could tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most awards in a single year should he win in all 8 categories. He and SZA, also a nominee with 6 nominations, are in the middle of their Grand National Tour and made their first stop of three sold out Los Angeles shows on May 21. Kendrick told the crowd he couldn’t wait to be in his hometown. He said, “We’ve been all around the world and back, we was on the East Coast, we was in the South for a little bit, but you know I couldn’t mother f-cking wait to make sure I came back home, you hear me!” Throughout the show, Kendrick and SZA performed separate sets and select duets such as “30 for 30” and “All the Stars.” Kendrick opened the show with his signature black 1987 Buick GNX on stage as he performed “wacced out murals.” He dropped a new verse while performing “family ties” and had the crowd on their feet during “TV Off” and “Not Like Us.” SZA brought out Lizzo as a surprise guest and they sang “Special.” SZA also floated as a fairy-like butterfly while singing “Nobody Gets Me.” The two ended the show with “Luther” and “Gloria.” They have their second Los Angeles show tonight at SoFi Stadium and will continue to tour until August 9.

Bruno Mars is also a top nominee at American Music Awards with 6 nominations. He is currently performing at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas and will be performing this weekend. He also recently announced nine additional performances this fall.

Spotify will return to CMA Fest with their country music showcase, Spotify House at Ole Red on June 5-7 in Nashville. This year’s lineup includes Bailey Zimmerman, Keith Urban, Noah Cyrus, Parker McCollum, Riley Green, Zac Brown Band, Brothers Osborne, Dasha, Kelsea Ballerini, Lily Rose, Little Big Town, Midland, Tanner Adell, Ashley Cooke, Carly Pearce, Cole Swindell, Jordan Davis, Lainey Wilson, Rascal Flatts, Shaboozey and more. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Spotify’s flagship Hot Country playlist and they will have a stacked lineup curated by Spotify’s Nashville team and Hot Country.

Martina McBride testified in support of the bipartisan NO FAKES Act at the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law hearing. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: AI-Generated Deepfakes in 2025 discussion cemented in a growing push for necessary protection of all Americans’ unique attributes. This legislation would create a new federal property right for every individual’s voice and likeness while also establishing guardrails for responsible innovation, protecting the First Amendment, and giving victims of AI deepfakes and voice clones effective recourse. Martina shared why the NO FAKES Act represents an important step in protecting her career and family while ensuring honest representation to her fans.

Mariah Carey continues to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her iconic album, The Emancipation of Mimi, with an all new performance video featuring “Don’t Forget About Us,” “Circles,” “Say Somethin’,” “Your Girl” and “We Belong Together.” Mariah will be releasing an expanded deluxe version of the album on May 30.

Happy New Music Friday! The weekend is here, which means Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is finally here and ET has got it covered!

Taylor shared a series of behind the scenes photos when the album dropped and shared, “Tonight all these lives converge here. The mosaics of laughter and cocktails of tears where fraternal souls sing identical things and it’s beautiful. It’s rapturous. It is frightening. I can’t tell you how proud I am to share this with you, an album that just feels so right. A forever thank you goes out to my mentors and friends Max and Shellback for helping me paint this self portrait. If you thought the big show was wild, perhaps you should come and take a look behind the curtain…”

Taylor Swift

Earlier this week, Taylor celebrated good news with RIAA announcing that Taylor has become the first and only female artist in history to surpass 100 million RIAA Certified album units.

Also this week, Spotify celebrated Taylor’s new album by inviting fans into a 3-day immersive activation, “The Life of a Showgirl: A Spotify Experience,” in New York City ahead of the release. Fans were able to step into the life of a showgirl, capture photo moments, hunt for Easter eggs, and also got a first look at lyrics from the album. Today, Spotify announced Taylor’s album became its most streamed album in a single day in 2025 so far.

Spotify

Swifties will be celebrating Taylor’s new album this weekend with the release of TAYLOR SWIFT | THE OFFICIAL RELEASE PARTY OF A SHOWGIRL, which will be shown on thousands of movie theatre screens in the U.S. October 3 through October 5. Fans will see the exclusive world premiere of the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia,” along with behind the scenes footage from the music video shoot, brand new lyric videos, and Taylor’s never before seen personal reflections on songs from her new album. Get ready to dance as Taylor said, “Dancing is optional but very much encouraged.”

And we can’t forget about all the different vinyl editions. Taylor shared that she was so happy with her photo shoot and wanted her fans to have as many images from this album era. She chose a high gloss finish which she has never before and wanted this album to feel really luxurious. Taylor said, “The vinyl packaging, the CD packaging, the photographs, the photo cards, it’s all just something I’m very proud of and it took a lot of time to put together, a lot of concentration, a lot of organization but hopefully it pays off, I hope the fans are happy.”

For her 12th album, Taylor reunited with producers Max Martin and Shellback and delivered twelve “bangers” as she called them during her “New Heights” appearance in August. She shared, “This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time.” Now, let’s break down some of our favorite lyrics!

“The Fate of Ophelia”
Taylor references Ophelia from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” but instead of a tragic fate, she was saved. She told Hit Radio that she has a fixation on Shakespeare characters and that this is a love song she is proud of. Travis also dropped an Easter egg from his post back in July when he wrote “Had some adventures this offseason, kept it 100.”

And if you’d never come for me
I might’ve drowned in the melancholy
I sore my loyal to me, myself and I
Right before you lit my sky up

You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia
Keep it 100 on the land, the sea, the sky

“Elizabeth Taylor”
Oftentimes it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me
All the right guys promised they’d stay
Under bright lights, they withered away but you bloom
Portofino was on my mind
And I think you know why

“Opalite”
Travis shared on “New Heights” that this is his favorite song on the album which Taylor confirmed during her Capital Breakfast interview. She explained that opal is Travis’ birth stone and she has always loved that stone. She told Hits Radio that this song was so fun to write and how we think certain moments in our lives are major setbacks but actually catapult you forward in growth, wisdom and perspective.

I had a bad habit of missing lovers past
My brother used to call it eating out of the trash

It’s alright
You were dancing through the lightning strikes
Sleepless in the onyx night
But now the sky is opalite
Oh oh oh oh my Lord
Never met no one like you before
You had to make your own sunshine
But now the sky is opalite

“Father Figure”
Taylor interpolated George Michael’s “Father Figure” into her song. George Michael Entertainment thanked Taylor for including George in such a special moment. During her BBC Radio 1 interview, Taylor said this song was fun to write and is proud of the line I can make deals with the devil because my d*ck’s bigger and she also told Magic Radio that she wrote this song in character.

“Eldest Daughter”
But I’m never gonna let you down
I’m never gonna leave you out
So many traitors, smooth operators
But I’m never gonna break that vow
I’m never gonna leave you now

“Ruin The Friendship”
This is not about a broken friendship but about a loved one she lost in high school. She shares regret for not pursuing her friend at the time.

Would’ve been the best mistake
Should’ve kissed you anyway

When I left school, I lost track of you
Abigail called me with the bad news
Goodbye and we’ll never know why

“Actually Romantic”
Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face
Some people might be offended
But it’s actually sweet all the time you’ve spent on me
It’s honestly wild all the effort you’ve put int
It’s actually romantic

“Wi$h Li$t”
Taylor confirmed this might be her favorite song! She told Heart Breakfast that this was the last song she made for the album — it is a dreamy and romantic song and details things people aspire to have in their lives and she shares what she would want like wanting to settle down and start a family! When asked if she thinks she achieved the line bring me a best friend who I think is hot, Taylor said “100%! Look what I got!” and held up her engagement ring to the hosts.
I made wishes on all the stars, God please bring me a best friend who I think is hot. Thought I had it once, twice, but I did not.

I just want you
Have a couple kids, got the whole block lookin’ like you

Got me dreamin’ ’bout a driveway with a basketball hoop
Boss up, settle down, got a wish list
I just want you

“Wood”
All of that bitchin’ wishing on a falling star
Never did me any good
I ain’t got to knock on wood
It’s you and me forever dancin’ in the dark
All over me, it’s understood
I ain’t got to knock on wood

Forgive me, it sounds cocky
He ah-matized me and opened my eyes
Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see
His love was the key that opened my thighs

“CANCELLED!”
Good thing I like my friends cancelled
I like them cloaked in Gucci and in scandal
Like my whiskey sour and poison thorny flowers
Welcome to my underworld where it gets quite dark
At least you know exactly who your friends are
They’re the ones with matching scars

“Honey”
You can call me honey if you want because I’m the one you want
You give it different meaning because you mean it when you talk

“The Life of a Showgirl” featuring Sabrina Carpenter
Taylor opened about this song during her Magic Radio interview about how the song is about meeting one of your idols who warns you against following in their footsteps because they want to be honest of how hard this industry is, but you do it anyway. She also opened up about how she was physically exhausted during the Eras Tour and needed to be emotionally and mentally stimulated, which led her to start writing this new album.

I’d sell my soul to have a taste of a magnificent life
That’s all mine but that’s not what showgirls get, they leave us for dead

Happy New Music Friday! The weekend is here, which means more streaming, new playlists and the best that music has to offer — and ET has you covered for everything in between.

Justin Bieber is back with SWAG II. The 23-track project features production by Justin in collaboration with Carter Lang, Dylan Wiggins, Dijon, mk.gee, Daniel Chetrit, Eddie Benjamin, Mike Will, Camper and more. Justin’s seventh studio album, SWAG, debuted as the most consumed album worldwide, landing at #1 on the Top Streaming, Pop and R&B Album Charts, marking the 10th Billboard 200 Top 5 album of his career and his 50th Billboard Global 200 hit. The album topped both the Spotify and Apple Music Album Charts, reaching #1 over 100 territories globally.

Lady Gaga released the music video for her new single “The Dead Dance,” which she debuted this week on Netflix’s “Wednesday” Season 2 (Part 2). The project marks her first creative collaboration with director Tim Burton. She and fiance Michael Polansky produced the video alongside Tim and Natalie Testa. Lady Gaga made a cameo as the mysterious Rosaline Rotwood on “Wednesday.” She shared “the inspiration for ‘The Dead Dance’ was a breakup. and it was all about the way that we sometimes feel when it’s over; how a relationship ending can kill our ability to feel hopeful about love.” Lady Gaga will make her return to the MTV VMAs where she will perform live from Madison Square Garden.

Tate McRae will also take the VMAs main stage for the first time. She is up for 6 awards and is currently in the middle of her Miss Possessive Tour. She kicked off the North American leg of her sold out tour last month. The tour supports her third studio album, So Close To What, which was released earlier this year.

Happy New Music Friday! The weekend is here, which means more streaming, new playlists and the best that music has to offer — and ET has you covered for everything in between.

BET Awards 2025 will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on June 9. Ledisi and Keyshia Cole have been added as performers and Elmiene and Ravyn Lenae will grace the BET Amplified Stage. Pre-show performers include Lil’ Kim, 803 Fresh, Gelo, Honey Bxby, Jordan Adetunji, Laila!, Larry June, Mario, Moliy, Rob49, Shop Boyz, Spice, The Alchemist, Trillian and Ying Yang Twins.

Cardi B will be receiving the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award at the 2025 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards on June 8 in Los Angeles. This award is presented to ASCAP members who have had a major influence on music and culture to recognize their success as creators and changemakers. The annual event will celebrate ASCAP’s top music creators at the crossroads of music, art and culture.

Madonna announced the long-rumored project Veronica Electronica, featuring rare and unreleased remixes from her album Ray of Light. The project will arrive July 25 and the beloved deep cut “Skin (The Collaboration Remix Edit)” is out now. Veronica Electronica, an eight-track companion to Ray of Light, was originally envisioned by Madonna as a remix album in 1998. The project was ultimately sidelined by the original album’s runaway success. More than 25 years later, that long-rumored concept is finally coming to life. The collection features newly edited versions of club remixes by Peter Rauhofer, William Orbit, Sasha, BT and Victoria Calderone, along with the original demo of “Gone, Gone, Gone.”

iHeartMedia announced the lineup for the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival Presented by Capital One. The two-day main stage event hosted by Ryan Seacrest will take place September 19 and 20 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will feature performances by Bryan Adams, Ed Sheeran, Feid, GloRilla, Jelly Roll, John Fogerty, Justice, Lil Wayne, LL COOL J, Mariah Carey, Maroon 5, Sammy Hagar, Tate McRae, The Offspring, Tim McGraw and more.

The Latin Recording Academy announced that Raphael will be the 2025 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. Happy New Music Friday! The weekend is here, which means more streaming, new playlists and the best that music has to offer — and ET has you covered for everything in between.

Taylor Swift has shared that she bought all her master recordings back. In a letter to her fans, she shared that all of the music she has ever made now belongs to her. She wrote, “To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. To my fans, you know how important this has been to me – so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version. The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music. I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.

John Legend kicked off his Get Lifted 20th Anniversary World Tour European leg this week in Glasgow, UK and will visit over 40 cities across the UK and Europe. The tour will kick off in the U.S. on August 23 in Highland Park, IL and will make stops at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Barclays Center in New York. Backed by his full band, John’s tour will showcase a set list celebrating the entirety of his debut album, Get Lifted. Each night, he will deliver a mix of deep cuts, fan favorites and fresh renditions of the album’s beloved tracks like “Ordinary People, “Number One” and “So High.” The show will also feature his other career-spanning hits. ET sat down with John to reflect on his life and career, including moments like his Get Lifted album release party, when he won his first Grammy Awards, his first major acting role, when he won an Oscar, when he achieved EGOT status and more. John told ET, “Longevity is not easy to come by in this industry and I’m grateful for it. I’m grateful that people still want to hear what I have to say, I’m grateful that I still have something to say. I’m working on a new album, I feel so creative and so inspired and hopefully I’ll just keep having that feeling and keep wanting to create something new, keep pushing myself, keep challenging myself.” For more ticket information, visit johnlegend.com.

Shawn Mendes announced he will be On The Road Again this year, with headline dates added in Europe and North America. The upcoming shows will feature a career-spanning set celebrating his biggest hits from the last ten years. His shows will kick off on August 5 and continue through the fall.

Jonas Brothers surprised fans this week by unveiling the cover artwork for their new album, GREETINGS FROM YOUR HOMETOWN, out August 8. The album is a celebration of 20 unforgettable years and filled with lifelong influences from their childhood and the sounds that they grew up on.
