Cheeseburger Slider Skewers – the ultimate fun party bite! These mini cheeseburgers are layered on skewers with sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, then served with a drizzle (or dip!) of my favorite special sauce. They’re easy to make, fun to eat, and perfect for laid-back summer entertaining—from the 4th of July through football season. Guests will be obsessed with these adorable sliders!

How cute are these?! I’m so excited to start sharing some fun 4th of July recipes with you all, and these cheeseburger skewers are kicking things off! I made them for our 4th of July party spread, and they were such a hit—simple, tasty, and just really fun.

When I was thinking about what to serve this year, I knew burgers had to be on the menu. But instead of going the traditional route, I wanted something easy to eat, easy to prep, and totally crowd-friendly. For me, a good burger is all about quality meat, melty cheese, and a great sauce—nothing too fussy.

That’s how these skewers came to be. Mini cheeseburgers, stacked up with slider buns, cheese, and classic toppings, all threaded onto skewers for the cutest, most delicious little bite.

The best part? This recipe is more of an idea—a starting point you can build on. Use the base and make it your own! Add bacon, caramelized onions, jalapeños, or keep it simple like I do. Either way, your guests are guaranteed to love them.

Just don’t skimp on the cheese or the sauce—those are always everyone’s favorite part!

These are the details

Ingredients – for the sliders

  • ground beef, chicken, or turkey – I usually use ground beef
  • worcestershire sauce
  • onion powder/garlic powder/smoked paprika
  • slider bunes
  • sharp cheddar cheese slices
  • dill pickles
  • plum tomatoes
  • luttuce

Ingredients – for the house sauce

  • mayo
  • ketchup
  • dill pickles
  • worcestershire sauce
  • hot sauce
  • garlic

Special Tools

For these sliders, you’ll need a grill or grill pan and wooden or metal skewers.

Steps

Step 1: Make the Patties

Start with good-quality ground meat—beef, chicken, or turkey all work great, so use what you love. Season the meat with Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

Form into mini burger patties, about the size of a cookie. You’ll want them small enough to stack on a skewer but thick enough to stay juicy when grilled.

Step 2: Grill the Burgers

Grill the patties over medium heat. Once you flip them, immediately add a small slice of cheddar cheese to each one and let it melt as they finish cooking. Because they’re mini, they only need about 3–4 minutes per side.

Step 3: Make the House Sauce

For my go-to “house sauce,” mix together mayo, ketchup, chopped dill pickles, Worcestershire sauce, a splash of hot sauce, and a little grated garlic.

It’s creamy, tangy, and just the right amount of spicy—perfect for drizzling over the skewers or serving on the side for dipping.

Step 4: Build the Skewers

There’s no strict order here, but here’s how I like to layer them: start with the bottom bun, then a cheeseburger, followed by lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. Then repeat the stack—cheeseburger, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes—and finish with a top bun.

If you’re making a full batch of 24 skewers, stick to this layering pattern for consistency and a great presentation.

Finish each skewer with a drizzle of the house sauce (or serve it on the side), and don’t forget the ketchup too!

How to Serve and Keep Warm

You can easily prep the patties 1–2 days in advance. Just shape them, then store them raw in the fridge. When you’re ready to grill, take them out about an hour ahead of time so they come to room temperature before cooking—this helps them cook evenly and stay juicy.

Once the skewers are assembled, keep them warm by serving from a hot tray or warming plate. For casual backyard BBQs, a disposable buffet set works great. If you have access to an outlet, I highly recommend investing in an electric warming tray. I have one myself and pull it out every Thanksgiving and Christmas—it’s compact, easy to store, and so useful for keeping things hot without drying them out.

I’m excited to share the rest of our 4th of July menu tomorrow—so stay tuned! It’s festive, simple, and such a fun spread to pull together!

Italian Grinder Sliders on Hawaiian Buns http://livelaughlovedo.com/food-and-drink/italian-grinder-sliders-on-hawaiian-buns/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/food-and-drink/italian-grinder-sliders-on-hawaiian-buns/#respond Sun, 15 Jun 2025 19:20:54 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/06/16/italian-grinder-sliders-on-hawaiian-buns/ [ad_1]

My Italian grinder sliders are a major hit for any occasion! I love whipping up a platter of these to enjoy with our neighbor friends while the kids are playing outside in the summertime. They’re easy to make a large batch, and pack tons of yummy Italian sammie flavors.

A close-up of a sandwich with sliced meats, shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayonnaise, and a soft, browned bun.

Tons of flavor in a handheld size: The slider size of these sammies are perfect for kiddos hands or serving as an appetizer before a main meal at your backyard BBQ.

Large batch to feed a crowd: I love that you can easily assemble 12 sliders like they’re one giant sandwich, making it super quick to serve 12 sliders all at once.

Super customizable: While this exact recipe features all my favorite Italian grinder fixins’, you can 10000% make these your own. Only have one kind of deli meat on hand? I’ve made these as turkey grinders, ham grinders — you get the idea.

The Star Ingredients

Hawaiian rolls: You’ll need the whole dang package of Hawaiian rolls for these sliders. Don’t pull the rolls apart, but instead slice all of them at once by cutting lengthwise across all the rolls. Yes, this means you’ll assemble these grinder sliders as one giant sammie.

Deli meat: Choose your own adventure here! I’m using turkey, pepperoni, mortadella, salami and prosciutto. Really covers all the bases for the ultimate Italian sammie flavor.

Sliced cheese: I went with pepper jack and provolone! Both melt really well and have great flavor. Make sure you place the sliced cheese as the first layer when you’re assembling your sliders so you can easily remove the tops of the bread when adding the lettuce and onions.

Italian seasoned lettuce and onions: DON’T SKIP THESE! It really takes things up a notch in the flavor department and truly makes these sliders taste gourmet. You’ll toss the sliced onions in red wine vinegar and dried oregano and then let them marinate for a few minutes before tossing with shredded lettuce and olive oil.

Find the list of full ingredients in the recipe card below.

What to Serve with These Sliders

I’m a big fan of a classic sammie + potato chips combo (try these air fryer sweet tater chips!), but also ❤ serving these grinder sliders with a side of creamy coleslaw or sweet potato fries.

Storage

These grinder sliders are best served immediately after baking.

If you’re hoping to prep them ahead of time, I recommend assembling the grinders with the meat and cheeses and keeping in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake. You can also prepare the Italian seasoned lettuce and onions ahead of time, but you’ll want to keep those in the fridge and wait to assemble on the grinders until you’re ready to serve.

More Yummy Sandwich Recipes

  • Preheat the oven to 350℉ and spray a 9×13 pan with cooking spray. Set aside.

  • Slice the Hawaiian rolls lengthwise, leaving them connected. Place the bottom into the prepared pan.

  • Next, layer the pepper jack and provolone cheeses on the bottom. Then add the turkey, pepperoni, mortadella, salami, and prosciutto. Place the top of the Hawaiian rolls on top of the cheese. Brush with melted butter.

  • Bake the sliders for 15 minutes at 350℉.

  • While the sliders are baking prepare the toppings. Place the sliced white onion, red wine vinegar, and dried oregano in a large bowl. Stir to combine and set aside. Let the onions marinate for 5 minutes.

  • After the onions have had time to sit, add the shredded lettuce and olive oil to the onions. Stir to combine. Set aside.

  • Add the mayonnaise and mustard to a small bowl and stir to combine.

  • When the sliders are done baking, take them out of the oven and transfer to a cutting board. Gently take the top off and set aside. Top the sliders with the lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and pickles. Spread the mayo mix on the top of the Hawaiian rolls.

  • Place the slider tops on top and cut to serve.

  • Any meat and cheese combination could work on this. I chose some more traditional Italian meats and cheeses.
  • I recommend baking these for a more traditional grinder sandwich.
