The 9 Best Wireless Earbuds of 2025, Tested and Reviewed http://livelaughlovedo.com/the-9-best-wireless-earbuds-of-2025-tested-and-reviewed/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/the-9-best-wireless-earbuds-of-2025-tested-and-reviewed/#respond Mon, 29 Sep 2025 23:51:08 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/30/the-9-best-wireless-earbuds-of-2025-tested-and-reviewed/ [ad_1]

A compact, comfortable pair of wireless earbuds is non-negotiable for red-eye flights, workspace concentration, or gym workouts. I have a hard time in crowded places, and I rarely leave my house without a pair of earbuds tossed in my bag, whether I’m heading to a coffee shop, on a long train ride, or hitting the gym. I’ve been testing wireless earbuds pretty consistently for the past five years to find the pairs with the best combination of battery life, comfort, sound quality, and water resistance.

I have different pairs for different uses, and I’ve tested several earbuds on this list, including the Ozlo Sleepbuds, Apple AirPods, and Anker Soundcore Space A40. A few of my favorites didn’t make the cut, like Skullcandy’s Method 360 and Raycon’s tiny-yet-powerful Fitness Earbuds. This year, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds took the top spot with the team’s tested earbuds thanks to their incredible sound quality, world-class noise canceling, and comfort during long wear. Read on for the rest of our top picks.

Amazon Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds

Credit: Amazon

Bose is consistently our top choice for both comfort and sound quality, and their QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds took yet another top slot this year. These earbuds are supremely comfortable for extended wear, and we felt no pressure or aches even with all-day wear. Setup isn’t quite as simple as pairing AirPods with an iPhone, but it was easier than others we tested, with the QR code taking us right to the Bose app for syncing. The earbud controls are fairly straightforward, and you can even adjust for sound levels without using the app. These are both comfortable and secure, with four eartips and additional stability bands that kept these in place on rushed commutes and during sweaty workouts.

The sound quality is what we’d expect from Bose, with dynamically placed speakers that allow for a fully immersive music experience as well as crisp podcast and audiobook dialogue. The active noise-canceling did an impressive job blocking distractions while the transparency mode was perfect for hearing what we needed to without turning off our music. The only issue we ran into with these earbuds was the confusing call mode. The incoming call volume was much lower than our music, and the person on the other end was able to hear our surroundings, and we had trouble overall with the quality of calls.

The Details: ANC, transparency | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud | | Up to 6-hour battery life | 2-hour charge time | USB-C charging | 3 ear tips and 3 stability bands | 5.3 grams per earbud | Water-resistant | Compatible with Bose app

Amazon Apple Airpods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation

Credit: Amazon

While Apple’s original AirPods didn’t have the best noise-cancellation qualities, we have been impressed by the ANC in the fourth generation. These connected easily to our Apple products, including laptops and iPhones, and the setup was seamless. The sound quality is clear and more defined than in previous models, and the spatial audio and head tracking (while a bit odd at first) works well for dynamic interactions and changing surroundings.

The sound was “very clear, strong and vibrant whether I’m listening to music, a podcast, an audiobook, or a phone call,” said Travel + Leisure senior writer Merrell Readman, though the updated control functions did take some time to get used to. Instead of tapping the earbud to change the song or pause, the AirPods 4 are controlled by squeezing the stem to activate the noise cancellation or control the music. The reliable noise-cancellation made up for this though, and we were even able to use them as earplugs when working in loud spaces. The transparency mode is also impressive, letting in surrounding noise for easy conversation without taking the earbuds out. It’s worth noting that you can buy Apple’s AirPods 4 without ANC for $60 less, but we found the ANC mode to be worth the extra spend.

The Details: ANC, transparency | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud | Up to 5-hour battery life | 2-hour charge time| USB-C and wireless charging | 5.2 grams per earbud | Water-resistant | Compatible with Apple products

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2

Credit: Google

Google’s Pixel Buds Pro are the Android’s answer to Apple’s AirPods, and the tiny, lightweight, Pro 2 is a noticeable upgrade from the first iteration. The gesture and touch controls are almost the same as the Pixel Buds 1, but we found the new model to respond more reliably. The soft silicone ear tips are also more comfortable than the previous version. With the PB2, we could wear these indefinitely, and did not experience any discomfort thanks to the slimmer profile that reduces pressure without losing stability.

We used these earbuds for everything imaginable during the test period, including gym workouts, commutes, and walks along busy streets, appreciating the strong noise cancellation that made even the nearby train station almost unnoticeable. The app has decent features for sound customization without going overboard, though Apple users won’t get the full feature set, and even Android users might want more options.

The Details: ANC and transparency modes | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud | | Up to 8-hour battery life | 2-hour charge time | USB-C and wireless charging | 4 ear tips | 3.9 grams per earbud | Water-resistant | Compatible with Android products

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX

Credit: Amazon

The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX earbuds have been our top pick this year (and last year) for tossing in our gym bag. Similar to our top Bose pick, the sound quality was impressive for everything from nuanced instrumentals to clear dialogue while listening to audiobooks, and T+L senior editor Lydia Price had no trouble watching movies with complex sound design.

The four sizes of eartips made it easy to get a comfortable, custom-feeling fit, and the waterproofing eased any stress of damaging the (expensive) earbuds during humid runs or getting caught outside in the rain. Like the rest of our most comfortable picks, there were no sore spots or pressure points during long-term wear, and the phone audio was clear on both ends of the line. The neutral and transparency mode worked well, and while the noise cancelling was sufficient, these aren’t quite up to par with number one Bose earbuds or Apple’s AirPods 4 noise-cancelling model.

The Details:Transparency, neutral, ANC modes | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud  | Up to 8-hour battery life | 1.5-hour charge time | USB-C case | 4 ear tips | 5.9 grams per earbud | Waterproof | Compatible with Bang & Olufsen app

Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation)

Credit: Amazon

One of the main issues I’ve run into with the original AirPods are the non-silicone buds, which fall out of my ears and I can never quite seem to get the correct fit for the speakers. The AirPods Pro and Pro 2 took care of this, offering Apple’s simple setup and reliable connectivity in a model that comes with silicone ear tips. T+L editor Taylor Fox agreed, saying “I was surprised at how they instantly cancel out any noise, and the fitted silicone tips help make sure the sound isn’t going outside of the ear.”

Like Apple’s other updated AirPod models, the Pro 2 come with spatial adjustment, responding when we turn our heads and allowing us to hear from different directions. The on-bud controls are also still intuitive, with buttons changing the mode between ANC and pass-through. This is an upgrade from the previous model, and we prefer the discreet button over squeezing the AirPod stem in the AirPod 4s. These worked well for taking and making calls on busy streets, and they also stayed in place well during workouts. The four eartips allow for easy, comfortable fit, and they feel like next-to-nothing in our ears, even during all-day use at work.

The Details: ANC and transparency modes | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud | | Up to 6-hour battery life | 2-hour charge time | USB-C and wireless charging | 4 ear tips | 5.3 grams per earbud | Water-resistant | Compatible with Apple products

Ozlo Sleepbuds

Credit: Amazon

I am a nightmare both when I don’t get enough sleep and when I’m jet lagged, which means getting enough sleep on international red-eye flights is necessary for the sanity of my travel companions. Ozlo’s Sleepbuds were the perfect solution this past year, with the softest eartips and most secure design of any sleep-oriented earbud I’ve tested. The app offers myriad noise options from brown and white-noise tones to nature sounds like rainfall and thunderstorms.

Even without the noise playing, these fit snugly (and comfortably) enough to block out noise. This is a good thing, since the big detractor from the Sleepbuds is the fact that they straight-up die in their case within a few days of not being used. Almost every other pair of earbuds we tested is ready to go after being in storage, holding a charge both in the buds and in the charging case. Not the case with these, as we’ve pulled them out for an international flight after charging the case a few days before to find them fully dead. We also had trouble getting them set up in the app, and it took several tries to connect to the app, phone, and earbuds. Lastly, it’s important to note that while you can play music from other apps and utilize the Ozlo app, these are not microphone enabled or phone-combatible, so you can’t conduct calls with them. For their intended purpose, they’re fantastic, and we don’t travel without them anymore.

The Details: Passive noise cancellation | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 0 microphones| Up to 10-hour battery life | 3-hour charging time | USB-C charging | 4 ear tips included | 3 grams per earbud | Water resistant | Compatible with Ozlo app

Anker Soundcore Space A40

Credit: Amazon

I packed the Soundcore Space A40 on my 500-mile thru-hike of the Colorado Trail, where battery life and space-saving are of paramount importance. These headphones came through brilliantly, with the most impressive battery power in my collection of wireless earbuds and a charging case that can be abandoned for months at a time and still hold plenty of life. These earbuds aren’t the cheapest on the market, but what you get for $150 (and often found on sale) is an incredible value in sound quality, durability, and battery life.

The case fully charges for up to 50 hours of listening time in just two hours, and you can also do a fast-charge, which provides four hours of listening with just 10 minutes of charge time. Our tester wore these regularly for nine days at a time, and the earbuds were still fully charged afterwards, with 25 percent power still left in the case. They come with four silicone eartips for a comfortable fit, and didn’t press in our ears uncomfortably but still felt secure while walking around and running errands. Aside from my Colorado Trail hike, these were tested for everything from Zoom meetings to calls on commutes and full workday sessions, and we came away impressed in every scenario.

The Details: Adaptive noise cancelling | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud | | Up to 15-hour battery life | 2-hour charge time | USB-C and wireless charging | 4 ear tips | 8.5 grams per earbud | Water-resistant

Bose Ultra Open Earbuds

Credit: Amazon

It can be hard to get the nuanced sound in an open-ear style, but the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are as close as we’ve gotten. These are designed to help you stay aware of your surroundings without losing all quality in the audio, and I’ve used this style for cycling, road running, and hiking in grizzly bear country. We also recommend these for people who have sensitivities to pressure inside their ear, and want to listen to music without pressure around or in their ear.

You won’t get active noise cancellation with an open-earbud design, but we were still impressed with the layered sound quality during testing. These use the same Bose app as our top pick, and they were similarly easy to pair. The on-bud controls are located on the part of the earbud that wraps around the back of our ear, and they are easy to access. We did have some trouble getting the controls to work, and some actions worked better than others. Going back a full song was a lot harder to get to work compared to starting a song over, and pausing was easier than getting a song to play. We still highly recommend these as a comfortable option for people who don’t want devices in their ears, and who might need more spatial awareness when wearing headphones.

The Details: Stereo, spatial modes | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud  | Up to 7-hour battery life | 1-hour charge time | USB-C case | 0 ear tips | 6.4 grams per earbud | Water-resistant | Compatible with Bose app

Bowers & Wilkins Pi8

Credit: Bowers & Wilkins

These high-end earbuds from Bowers & Wilkins have some of the best customization we’ve seen on an in-ear design, including settings that can adjust noise cancellation, activate voice assistant, and control volume and levels and balance. For music aficionados, this is a huge bonus. We found the controls easy to use and reliable, not encountering any glitches or lags regardless of what controls we used.

The different modes are clearly defined, and toggling between ANC and pass-through creates a noticeable difference. T+L senior testing editor Jackie Cucco was impressed by both the in-ear stability and sound quality, telling us “you can hear voices, beats, and instruments crisply and distinctly,” and mentioning how they stayed securely in her ears even when running. The noise cancellation is top-notch, creating peace and easy listening even on crowded NYC subways and busy streets. These are some of the largest earbuds on this list, and some people with smaller ears might find them uncomfortable after a while.

The Details: ANC and pass-through modes | 10-meter Bluetooth range | 3 mics per earbud | | Up to 6.5-hour battery life | 2-hour charge time | USB-C and wireless charging | 4 ear tips | 7 grams per earbud | Water-resistant | Compatible with Bowers & Wilkins app

Our Testing Process

To find the best pairs of earbuds for work, commuting, travel, and sleeping, I and several T+L team members tested dozens of pairs of earbuds over the past year, with three weeks of note-taking specific to this story, where testers recorded their impressions and results. These included all listening mode options, and feedback on how well both transparency mode and noise cancelling worked. We noted our initial impressions and ease of setup, as well as compatibility with different tech and apps. Comfort was paramount here, and we recorded how long these were worn for and in what capacity, then how comfortable they felt for varying lengths of time.

As always, we had our testers list who they thought each pair would be best for, and in what scenario. Some earbuds are better for high-energy gym workouts, and some are better for redeye flights and long commutes. We also noted sound quality in different categories, including nuances in music, dialogue in audiobooks and podcasts, and varying elements for watching movies. We rated each category and gave detailed insights, only recommending the headphones that hit top marks while noting where each set fell short. We will continue testing these headphones and providing feedback, and will update this guide after more long-term testing.

Tips for Buying Earbud

Prioritize a Comfortable Fit

Since ear buds sit inside your ear, it’s important to get a soft, comfortable pair that doesn’t put undue pressure on the edge of your ear canal, and fits the specific shape of your ear. Look for a model with multiple customization options (like most on our list) and has soft materials for the eartips and any other silicone stability wings.

I usually experiment with a few different sizes of eartips before committing to each one. Make sure they provide a good seal for sound quality and stability, but don’t feel uncomfortable after at least an hour of use. Finally, check the weight. I look for earbuds that weigh six grams or less for each one.

Assess the Battery Life

The battery life on our top earbuds runs the gamut from five hours to more than 15 hours of play time. Choose the earbuds that best match what you need them for. If you’re going to use them for a full night of sleep, choose a pair that lasts at least eight hours. If you prioritize excellent noise cancellation and more active modes for calls, your battery won’t last as long, but you probably won’t be using them for as long either.

Each case supposedly holds two or three full charges as well, so check the retailer pages to see how much full battery life you’ll be getting from each case charge. If you’re taking them to travel, you’ll have fewer chances to charge in between, so prioritize cases with fast charging and more stored battery life.

Make Sure They’re Compatible With Current Tech Devices

Tech obsolescence is a real thing, and while we appreciate the latest and greatest devices and apps, it can be frustrating when your accessories don’t work with your current technology. If you have a much older iPhone for instance, there’s a chance the latest AirPods won’t pair, or if you don’t have any storage left on your phone, you might not be able to download the Ozlo app for your Sleepbuds. Make sure your phone is updated before pairing wireless earbuds, and be aware that some Apple features won’t work on Android devices, and vice versa.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What’s the best way to clean wireless earbuds?

To clean your wireless earbuds, make sure you remove any silicone eartips and stability wings. Then, take a clean, lint-free cloth and wipe down the body of the earbuds and the case where they sit to charge. I use a dry cloth for this, but if it’s super grimy, the cloth can be slightly damp. To clean the tiny speakers, take a Q-tip or soft toothbrush and clean the mesh and connectivity points on the bud and case. You can clean your tips by soaking them in warm water and unscented dish soap. Set everything out to dry and make sure it’s entirely dry before charging.

  • How do you connect wireless earbuds to your phone?

To connect wireless earbuds to your phone, you’ll need to enable Bluetooth, have the case open or in pairing mode, then search for the earbuds on your Bluetooth dropdown menu. This can be a little finicky, and since wireless earbud cases don’t have a screen, you’ll be relying on a button or mode to get them to pair. This can mean holding down the power button, or opening the case and pressing a low-profile button to pair. I often have trouble getting this to work at first, and recommend reading the instructions. Some earbuds, like Bose models, come with a simple QR code that you can scan and will take you directly to the app which can speed up the process.

  • Are wireless earbuds best to bring on flights?

Wireless earbuds aren’t my first choice to bring on flights, but I do pack several pairs of headphones when I travel so that I have a few options. If you plan to watch in-flight movies and don’t want to mess with a finicky (or non-existent) Bluetooth connection on your seatback screen, I recommend bringing a wired pair of headphones, or an over-the-ear wireless pair that has an AUX cord. That said, since earbuds are so compact, I’m able to pack a few pairs, and I always bring a reliable pair of wireless buds along with my wired pair. That way I can go cordless and listen to my own music or audiobooks when I don’t want to watch seatback movies.

Why Trust Travel + Leisure

Maggie Slepian is an avid traveler who spends a significant portion of the year either abroad or traveling domestically on road trips during backcountry travel. She always packs a pair (or two) of wireless earbuds whether she’s hitting the gym, the local trail system, a red-eye flight, or trying to sleep in a noisy budget motel on the beach. She also frequently works from loud coffee shops, where noise-cancelling, comfortable earbuds are a must. Maggie put this buyer’s guide together using the tested input from the T+L team as well as her own experience.

To use on skin while preventing irritation, simply apply a generous layer of water-based serum, place your index finger on the glass tube, turn the device on, touch the glass tube’s tip to your skin, then remove your finger and glide the tube across your skin. It’s recommended to limit sessions to a maximum of two minutes twice per week. And bonus! This comes with FOUR different attachments: a spot tube for targeting individual areas, a mushroom tube to treat broad areas like the forehead, cheeks, and jawline, a tongue tube for the areas around your eyes and nose, *and* a comb tube you can use on your scalp to promote lush, healthy-looking hair.

Promising review: “I wish I had discovered this before my mid-40s because it may actually be a miracle device. I’ve had hormonal acne for years, and it makes me so very self-conscious. When I say I have tried everything, I mean everything: numerous dermatologist recommendations, microdermabrasion, regular facials, all the gimmicks out there. Then I bit the bullet and got this. Y’ALL. Y’all! You will think I’m lying, but I am absolutely not. Three days of using this device and my acne is almost gone, my rosacea is getting better, and I plan to start using it on my wrinkles next since it’s doing so well on the acne! MAGICAL. If you’re on the fence, buy it.” —Emily H.

10 Best Natural Deodorants I Tested Day to Day (2025) http://livelaughlovedo.com/10-best-natural-deodorants-i-tested-day-to-day-2025/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/10-best-natural-deodorants-i-tested-day-to-day-2025/#respond Wed, 24 Sep 2025 11:42:58 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/24/10-best-natural-deodorants-i-tested-day-to-day-2025/ [ad_1]

These Deodorants Are Just OK

Variety of deodorant containers mostly sticks on top of a raspberry colored cloth

Photograph: Louryn Strampe

Kopari Performance Plus Deodorant for $20: This deodorant smells great—like a floral, beachy coconut. It’s more fresh than sweet, and I’d say it’s unisex-leaning-feminine. It goes on clear and smooth, and it didn’t stain my clothes at all. However, it didn’t last me through a workout without reapplying, unlike some other brands I tried. I think it’s fine, but I wouldn’t call it a “performance deodorant.” If you’re looking for a clear formula and you don’t mind reapplying, it might be worth a shot.

Fur Ingrown Deodorant for $19: My relationship with this deodorant is as complicated as my relationship with my underarm hair. Sometimes I don’t shave it for months; sometimes I shave it every other day. This deodorant contains ingredients like willow bark (to prevent ingrown hairs) and niacinamide (to brighten underarms). It did both of those things very well. But it didn’t do a great job at preventing odor throughout the day, and the smell is very green and earthy, which didn’t agree with my body chemistry. It might really appeal to some people though—online reviewers seem to love it or hate it—so I recommend smelling it in a store before purchasing.

Curie Clean Deodorant (two-pack) for $28: This formula smells good when first applied, but quickly fades away after an hour or two. It also stained my clothes more than some others I tried. During my second use, it caused some irritation, so I discontinued it. I didn’t notice myself sweating more or less compared to other kinds of natural deodorant. However, the brand does have a great Detox Mask that can help with the transitional period when switching to natural deodorant. It’ll be featured more prominently in an upcoming guide.

Dove Aluminum-Free Deodorant for $11: Dove’s deodorant is mostly fine, and I like how affordable it is. But the texture is really smooth and leaves my underarms feeling strangely sticky, even after letting them dry. The fragrances aren’t powerful or long-lasting enough for my own personal preference. They also all have a powdery undertone that I was not a fan of. I did notice some BO partway through the day during my testing. Since this is so subjective, your mileage may vary. The packaging also came taped shut, and the tape left behind sticky residue on the outside of my deodorant that was impossible to remove without rubbing alcohol.

Lume Whole Body Deodorant (three-pack) for $39: This pricey deodorant smelled terrible to me. I received the Invisible Cream formula in Minted Cucumber, which smelled like pool chlorine and hand soap. I refused to put it on my body. I also received the Clean Tangerine Smooth Solid formula, which initially smelled marginally better but still had a weird hand-soap element to it. It left white marks all over my clothes and oddly smelled like cheese once applied. I washed it off and called my testing done. Reader, I love you, but I’m not going to smell like cheese all day just to see if the smell magically transforms after a few hours. Senior commerce editor Kat Merck also tried the Lavender Sage Invisible Cream, and she said it reminded her of laundry that was left overnight in the washing machine—and that the deodorant made her smell worse than she would have had she not worn any in the first place. Lume does have many fans across the internet, so again, this may be something that can be boiled down to personal preference. I suggest smelling it in a store before purchasing.

Bite Refillable Deodorant for $44: I like the minimalist aesthetic of this refillable deodorant. The sleek metal case is almost miniature, and the entire setup is completely plastic-free. However, it’s easy to push the deodorant stick up too high, which can be messy if the temperatures are warm. In fact, I found the formula too soft in general, and it tended to get gunky and gummy throughout the day, both on my armpits and on the case. I also didn’t love the Neroli scent. I think this could work well if you want the most minimalist, nondescript natural deodorant possible, but there are other refillable options that smell better and last longer.

Best Natural Deodorants Bit Brand with tin packaging

Saltair AHA Deodorant for $12: I was initially really impressed by the scent I tried from Saltair. Pink Beach smells like a summer sunset on the ocean. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts to make it work, I couldn’t apply this formula without my armpits feeling sticky and irritated. I used it on clean, dry, hairless skin, and I let my armpits dry fully before lowering my arms. But I had this constant feeling of tacky, sweaty irritation that eventually led to a rash, so I discontinued testing.

How I Tested and What’s Up Next

I‘ve been wearing natural deodorant since 2020. I wore each of these deodorants at least three times—once during a calm day at home and twice during a workout at the gym. I also tested whether they stain by putting on a black T-shirt after application. I am currently testing deodorants from Jukebox and additional scents from Megababe, as well as various liquid AHA deodorants.

Common Ingredients, Explained

Here’s an explanation about some of the ingredients you may see in your research.

Aluminum: Natural deodorants (usually) mask odor and don’t emphasize sweat reduction. Antiperspirants (usually) mask odor and prevent sweat. The sweat prevention comes from aluminum salts, which block sweat ducts under your arms. There were a few studies that talked about elevated breast cancer or Alzheimer’s disease risks from using aluminum, but there’s no definite link between them (according to the FDA, the American Cancer Society, and the National Cancer Institute, among others). It’s probably fine to use antiperspirants with aluminum in them. Some people with kidney disease are advised to avoid aluminum, and others want to “play it safe” and avoid aluminum. As for me, I sort of feel better when I sweat? In any case, that’s the lowdown on aluminum. TL;DR: The science says it’s fine for most people.

Parabens: Parabens are preservatives that have been shown to mimic estrogen in the body, but at much lower rates than the body’s natural estrogen. Parabens are somewhat common ingredients in food, medicine, and beauty products, though they’re less common as more people try to avoid them. Some parabens are banned in the EU until more research can be done. The FDA has concluded that parabens are safe. It’s relatively easy to avoid parabens if you choose to. Most antiperspirants don’t contain parabens; most natural deodorants don’t, either.

Phthalates: Phthalates make plastic more flexible and durable, and they can also be used in some beauty products as stabilizers. Some studies have concluded that they’re safe; others suggest links between phthalates and skin irritation, cancer, or early death. But those links were not causal. Phthalates do have a California Proposition 65 warning. The recommended deodorants below are phthalate-free. Many antiperspirants do contain phthalates, but not all of them.

Baking soda: Some natural deodorants use baking soda as an absorptive agent to prevent sweat and as an antibacterial agent to prevent odor. Some people can develop a rash from using baking-soda-based formulas, due to the reaction between the baking soda and their body’s natural pH balance. It’s hard to tell whether or not you’re sensitive to baking soda until you try it, but if you typically have sensitive skin, you may want to try a formula without baking soda. We have some recommendations below.

The Transition Period, Explained

When you make the switch from antiperspirant to natural deodorant, you might go through a transition period lasting from one to four weeks. Long story short, after years of not sweating while using antiperspirants, you might find yourself sweating a whole lot more as your body adjusts when switching to natural deodorant. It’ll level out eventually, but for me personally, I smelled like a gym full of teenage boys for two weeks. Some people don’t have a transition phase at all. I also developed a heat rash from sweating so much during the middle of summer—my skin was irritated, which meant I couldn’t use deodorant at all, therefore raising the Stink Factor. Now, though, I sweat less than I ever did while using antiperspirants.

Be prepared to stick it out. I have an issue with the term “detox,” because our bodies already have a detoxifying process (called the kidneys). However, a clay mask like the Curie Detox Mask can be helpful in drawing out excess moisture and calming down irritated skin that you might experience during the transition period. Otherwise, just keep your underarms dry and be gentle on your skin. It won’t last forever.

It’s hard to empirically test deodorant. Scent preferences vary from person to person, and they can change based on your body chemistry. Some people might prefer a different formula, some people shave and some don’t, and some people care more about sweat absorption than scent. Do you shower every single day? Do you work out frequently? Do you naturally sweat a lot or a little? All of these things can factor in to whether or not you’ll like a deodorant. Here’s what the tables below mean.

Available scents: How many scents you can choose from as of press time.

Free from: These ingredients are not in the deodorant.

Scent strength: “Strong” lasts all day. “Medium” fades halfway through the day. “Faint” means it faded fast or was barely noticeable in the first place.

Sweat level: “Low” means I didn’t notice any sweat. “Medium” means I noticed some sweat but didn’t feel the need to reapply the deodorant. “High” means I sweat a lot and felt the need to reapply throughout the day.

Clothing stains: “None” means it didn’t stain my clothes. “Few” means it might show up on a black T-shirt. “High” means it will absolutely show up on your clothes, regardless of color.

Functional ingredients: A list of the main ingredients that help absorb sweat and prevent odor.

Formula details: Is it vegan? Is it a stick, cream, or roll-on? I’ll let you know here.

Its coating doesn’t contain PFOA, lead, cadmium, toxic metals, or nanoparticles. It’s also dishwasher safe!

Promising reviews: “I waited to write a review until I’d actually tested the pan and after using it for two months, I can honestly say that it is amazing! It’s the best cookware product that I’ve ever used as it heats up evenly and cleans so easily (even the bottom of the pan still looks new). I am currently looking at other Goodful products to replace my other pots so YES, I’d highly recommend this product!” —Johnny O

“I purchased this for my mother-in-law since she has arthritis in her hands and can’t lift anything heavy. This pan is incredibly light and it’s become a favorite with everyone who cooks in this kitchen. It holds a lot, cooks evenly, and even gets clean in the dishwasher. I can’t say enough good things about this pan. You won’t be sorry if you purchase it.” —J. O’Donnell

Other Scooters to Consider

I’ve tested many scooters. Not all deserve a spot above, but some are still worth considering.

Niu KQi 100P

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

Niu KQi 100P for $379: The KQi 100P is slightly lighter, cheaper, and faster than the Segway E2 Pro, my top budget recommendation, but I eked out slightly less range (under 5 miles). Granted, most people will be able to go a little further since you’re probably not 6’4″ and 250 pounds, but the Niu just has a smaller battery than the Segway. I also prefer having turn signals, which are absent on the Niu, and Segway’s app is nicer. The KQi 100P’s 300-watt motor has slightly less power, which means slower starts, but this scooter has performed very well for its frequently discounted price of $379. If you want to spend as little as possible and need a transport option for nearby grocery stores or toting around your college campus, this one will do the job.

Punk Electric Punk Rider Pro

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

Punk Electric Punk Rider Pro for $1,299: The Punk Rider Pro has several highs and some very odd lows. This relatively new brand offers top-end features at a reasonable price, such as 1,200-watt dual motors, a beefy battery, and a top speed of 32 mph. Assembly was a little more annoying than other scooters—you have to install the screws through two plates and line them up while holding the handlebar in place, which seems like an unnecessary extra step over other scooters. Then, when I tried to scan the QR code to install the app, it tried to circumvent the Google Play Store and install an app called Vicont through Chrome (that’s a security risk). I didn’t do this, and found the app through the Google Play Store; it paired, but it’s a little glitchy. Thankfully, you don’t need it to ride the scooter, and the ride experience is solid, if a bit stiff. Suspension is lackluster, and I found myself gripping the handlebars tightly so that my hands didn’t slip off while riding over the terrible roads in Brooklyn. You can drive in dual-motor or single-motor mode, each with three levels (1, 2, 3), with corresponding speeds. I was mostly fine riding in single-motor mode on level three, which frequently took me to 23 mph, but I would enable the dual motor on slopes—climbing the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn was child’s play. I have noticed that the stem likes to wobble at high speeds, which is something to keep an eye out for. But the best part of the scooter is the range. After 17 miles, I had 61 percent left in the tank. That’s incredible. The downside is the scooter’s 69-pound weight. The company also says its website is being revamped to focus on enterprise customers, whereas consumers can buy and get servicing options from Epic eRides, a distributor based in Florida. This latter part is a bit of a red flag, especially when it comes to aftermarket care. I think it’s just safer to stick with a more established company until Punk Electric sorts these kinks out.

Segway ZT3 Pro a black and red electric scooter in front of a white fance

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

Segway ZT3 Pro for $850: The ZT3 Pro is an off-road scooter, so it’s perfect for all the terrible roads here in Brooklyn. I was delivering Christmas cookies to some friends and used the ZT3 Pro to trek from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, to lower Manhattan, then back into Brooklyn to stop by Greenpoint, and finally head back home (that’s two bridges!). It was roughly 16 miles—in the last mile or two, the ZT3 Pro began lowering its speed and was on its final battery bar, but I still made it into my house. No need to do the dead scooter walk of shame! I rode it at the second speed mode, which limited it to 15 miles per hour, but the 650-watt motor can go up to 25 mph. It folds up easily, though I wish the stem had a more secure latch when it’s down. You get turn signals, a bright headlamp, and a bell. But what’s most impressive is the suspension. I went over some small potholes and did not feel the vibrations as deeply in my bones as on other scooters I’ve tested. That’s also likely thanks to the large 11-inch tubeless tires. The only main problem I had with it was its weight. At nearly 66 pounds, it’s manageable for a flight of stairs or two, but it gets tiring quickly. I also find the newer Max G3 matches the ZT3 Pro in many ways and outpaces it in others, making the ZT3 Pro feel redundant.

Mini Motors USA Dualtron Togo a black electric scooter beside a white fence

MiniMotors USA Dualtron Togo Scooter

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

MiniMotors USA Dualtron Togo for $850: If you can buy this scooter at the discounted price I’ve seen it drop to—$499—I think it’s phenomenal value. At $850, not so much (it’s also sold out right now). I went from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, over the Brooklyn Bridge into lower Manhattan and back home on a single charge, a roughly 13-mile trek, and it was out of battery. The ride feels stiff, and this scooter must be designed for shorter people, as my arms had to be fully outstretched to reach the handlebars. A safety feature locks the throttle after a few seconds (you can turn this off in the app), and you need to press both brakes to unlock it. I initially found it annoying, but now I don’t mind it—an accidental press of the throttle won’t send this thing flying. I rode it at 15 mph, but it can hit 25. However, my trek back home wasn’t that fun. The scooter, despite saying I had 30 percent left, began slowing down when I was still a few miles away, so I had to ride home at an agonizingly slow 8 mph earlier than I expected. The battery gauge is very useless; it would say I had 78 percent at one point, then minutes later it would say 40 percent. The max load is only 220 pounds, so shorter and lighter people than me will get better range, but it’s a solid little scooter, especially for under $500 on sale. It weighs 54 pounds.

Niu KQi3 Pro for $469: Over many rides, I became quite fond of the KQi3 Pro, and it was our top pick in this guide for quite some time. It offers great range for the money. Despite riding over steep bridges around New York City, I frequently got around 15 miles out of it, but you can probably expect 18 to 20 miles (unless you’re also a tall giant like me). It goes 20 miles per hour, the 9.5-inch tubeless tires offer a comfy ride, and the disc brakes reliably bring it to a quick stop. You get perks like a bell, lights, and space on the handlebar for attaching a phone mount. It’s super easy to fold, but it weighs 45 pounds, so it’s not what I’d call lightweight. I also wish the handlebars could fold down since they can snag on stair railings. It’s slightly older now and has been replaced by the Niu KQi 300X and 300P, so make sure you catch it on sale.

MiniMotors USA Dualtron Mini Special for $1,499: The instructions to assemble this scooter are vague, and a few steps aren’t even mentioned in the instruction booklet. (I found the handlebar grip hard to put on—rubbing alcohol is your friend.) This is also the first time I tried the MiniMotors Dualtron app, and honestly, it’s not beginner-friendly. None of the terms and functions are well-explained. It’s not a scooter I’d suggest for newcomers, but once you get everything up and running, the riding experience is quite nice. It has a top speed of 35 mph, and while the company claims a 40-mile range, you can expect closer to 25 to 30 miles. It’ll handle slopes just fine, but I do find it weird that despite being fairly hefty (59 pounds), it has a max load capacity of 200 pounds (most scooters can support up to 265 pounds).

FluidFreeRide Fluid Mosqutio scooter

Photograph: FluidFreeRide

Fluidfreeride Fluid Mosquito for $899: If the lightweight Unagi Model One Voyager doesn’t interest you but you still want an ultra-lightweight scooter, then check out the Fluid Mosquito (7/10, WIRED Recommends). At just 29 pounds, it’s one of the lightest scooters in this guide and has a comfy, built-in grab handle for easy toting. It’s fast to fold and is powerful, with a top speed of 24 mph. But shaving down the weight on this nimble scooter does have drawbacks. The suspension is just OK—you’ll feel most of those bumps—and the wheels are narrow. The braking system works fine, but you might encounter some skidding if you make a sudden stop, and the range is lackluster (around 9 miles in my testing, going over the Brooklyn Bridge). There’s also no easy way to change speed modes on the fly; you set it before you ride.

TurboAnt M10 Lite for $280: This is a perfectly fine budget scooter best for folks under 200 pounds. (I wasn’t able to hit its top speed of 16 mph.) The assembly requires a few extra steps (more things to screw in, like the rear mudguard). I was only able to get around 8 miles riding it, but I like that the folding system is quick, the display is bright, and it’s pretty light at 31 pounds. Just don’t take it up any steep hills.

Gotrax Apex for $243: The Apex is 32 pounds and easy to fold up. It has an integrated bell and a digital display that shows your speed and battery life, and it can go up to 15 mph. The Apex is reliable—I’ve gone to coffee shops, remote video shoots with a backpack full of camera gear, and the grocery store, though it’s not the smoothest ride. The 250-watt motor struggles with any slight incline, and slopes drain the battery fast. The battery usually lasted around 9 miles for me. I’m also tall, and I had to constantly outstretch my arms to reach the handlebars. You’ll want to tighten the rear disc brake; it works fine, but I wouldn’t have minded more stopping power.

Gotrax GX2 for $1,299: The GX2 is 76 pounds and packs a lot of power and range. This gunmetal scooter looks a bit like something out of Transformers and can hit a max speed of 35 mph via the dual 800-watt motors, but I usually rode it at 20 mph. It took me to midtown and back to Brooklyn (a total of 18.4 miles) with some juice left over. I hate carrying it up and down the stairs because the stem is super thick, making it difficult to grasp. When you’re waiting at a light, the GX2 also switches to Parking mode after a few seconds, so you constantly have to remember to press the mode button to switch it to the driving gear. It’s super annoying, and Gotrax says there’s no way to disable it. I am a little concerned about build quality—the motor makes a noise as if something is brushing against it, and this sound disappears if I lightly press the left brake lever while riding. The latch to keep the stem upright comes down too easily, despite a sliding lock mechanism to keep it in place; Gotrax says it might just be that it’s installed too tightly. If you see any of these issues, I recommend reaching out to Gotrax and going to a local scooter shop to have them take a look.

Navee S65 scooter

Photograph: Navee

Navee S65 for $960: Navee is a relatively new brand growing its presence in the US, and I had a great time using the S65 (7/10, WIRED Recommends). I was able to complete 16-mile round trips at 20 mph regularly, but that pretty much depleted the battery. It has great acceleration, thanks to its geared hub motor, and it climbs slopes with ease, but this also makes it very loud. The motor’s sound disappears if you’re in a noisy city like New York, but it can make you self-conscious on quiet streets. It’s 53 pounds, so it’s heavier than our top pick despite a similar range, and its customer service is up in the air since it’s so new. Still, I had fun riding it.

Evolv Terra for $1,228: I enjoyed my time with the Evolv Terra (7/10, WIRED Recommends). It’s 53 pounds and thanks to the thin stem, not too annoying to carry. It’s powerful, with the potential to go as fast as 31 miles per hour when you engage both 600-watt motors (check your local speed laws first!). Otherwise, you can cruise along at 20 mph as I did on the second gear speed setting (there are three in total) with the single motor. Range is pretty average, with around two bars left on the meter after 15 miles, so it can potentially last more than 20 miles, especially if you’re conservative with its speeds. The suspension is OK, but the solid tires on rougher roads can feel quite bumpy. The fenders also seemed pretty useless to me as, after a wet ride post-rain, my back was covered in specks of dirt kicked up from the rear tire. The stem’s angle was also a little too close to my body, and the lack of a thumb throttle meant my wrist hurt after long rides. You can tweak the angle of the throttle and brakes to improve this, though.

Radio Flyer S533 for $599: Honestly, I’m surprised at how well this scooter did in my tests. The folding mechanism is just a latch and a sleeve you pull down to keep the latch from coming undone while you ride. It’s super easy to fold and unfold, and lightweight at 30 pounds. It’s not a commuter scooter by any means—my range hovered under 8 miles on a single charge—and despite exceeding its 220-pound load capacity, I averaged around 14 mph of its 16 mph top speed. It’s a nice little scooter for going to the post office, grocery store, or Cinnabon when my wife asks for a cinnamon roll. However, its price doesn’t match its power and performance; it should be cheaper. It’s also worth noting that the first model the company sent me didn’t turn on and the second model had a deflated front tire. Inflating it was a quick affair and I haven’t had problems since.

Scooter Accessories

The Beam Virgo a white helmet with blue reflective lenses sitting on a wooden surface

The Beam Virgo Helmet

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

The Beam Virgo Helmet for $299: If you’re riding faster than 15 miles per hour, I strongly suggest you get a full-face helmet, which covers more than just the top of your noggin. I’ve been using The Beam’s Virgo for several weeks and am quite satisfied with it. It looks cool as heck, and I love the flip-down visor—it began raining when I was riding once, and it was nice not having water splatter into my eyes. Putting it on is a bit of a squeeze (I have the large-size helmet), and I have to take off my glasses. But I put them back on once the helmet is on my head, and there are holes on the side to put earbuds in. It’s very comfy, though the padding sometimes falls out of place, and you have to readjust it when donning the helmet. It’s a MIPS helmet, which means it reduces rotational motion to the brain in an accident to reduce the risk of brain damage.

Thousand Heritage 2.0 Helmet for $99: Anyone going slower speeds will be perfectly fine with a Thousand helmet. Several WIRED reviewers, including yours truly, have tested and used Thousand’s Heritage helmets. They’re attractive and comfy, and you can clasp the helmet one-handed.

Giro Ethos Mips Helmet for $200: If you don’t like the look of the Thousand Heritage (how dare you), I am fond of the Giro Ethos Mips. It’s supremely comfy to wear, and there’s a remote accessory you can attach to the handlebars to enable turn signals on the helmet itself. (Annoyingly, the helmet recharges via microUSB.)

Peak Design Universal Bar Mount clipped onto the handlebars of a bike with a hand about to snap a mobile phone to it

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

Peak Design Universal Bar Mount for $50: To use this mount, you need to use the Peak Design case for your iPhone, Samsung, or Google Pixel, but it is by far my favorite mounting solution. It uses Apple’s MagSafe system paired with Peak Design’s SlimLink mechanism, which makes the magnetic attachment even more secure. After years of use, I have never had a phone fly off this mount. It’s easy to wrap around the handlebar, too, though it may not work on scooters with thick handles.

Image may contain Person and Smoke Pipe

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

Beam Corky Bike Mirror for $32: I’ve had these side mirrors attached to the handlebars of a few scooters for some time now. They’re easy to install, if a bit cheap in quality, but they offer a slightly better riding experience because you don’t have to twist your head as much every time you’re about to make a turn. You can adjust the angle a fair bit.

Kryptonite Keeper 785 Chain Lock for $48: This might be a useless recommendation because it’s so hard to find a good bike lock these days that doesn’t deter determined thieves. I bought the Keeper 785 in 2019, and it has kept all of my scooters and bikes safe and secure since then, but I am also paranoid and never leave my vehicle out of sight for more than an hour or two. Using this lock does not guarantee safety, but at least Kryptonite offers up to $500 in coverage for registered locks. I prefer a chain lock for scooters because it’s just easier to throw it through the right spots to quickly secure it.

Avoid These Scooters

Niu KQi3 Air Kick Scooter folded up and sitting on hardwood floor

Niu KQi Air Scooter

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

We try to test electric scooters for two to three months, oftentimes even longer. Not all of them are winners. That’s what you’ll find below—escooters that are OK but not as good as our picks above.

Niu KQi Air: I was so excited to test this scooter, but my experience with it over several months is mixed. I still like it, but a few quirks hold it back. The KQi Air has a carbon fiber frame, allowing it to be a mere 26 pounds with a 20-mph top speed. That makes it the lightest scooter I have ever tested. It’s easy to fold and has turn signals, a slick app, and reliable regenerative braking. The range is a bit lackluster—I usually got just under 10 miles on a single charge, but it’s so lightweight that when it died on my way home once, I strapped it to a Citi Bike’s front basket and cycled home (don’t do this!). The ride quality is great, but I had issues with it refusing to connect to my phone until I disconnected the internal power cable in the stem. There’s a theft protection that sounds an alarm and slows down the scooter if someone tries to roll it away, but bizarrely, while you can permanently turn off the alarm, the only way to stop it from auto-braking as you roll it is to turn the scooter on. My initial model stopped working completely and wouldn’t turn on, so Niu had to send me a second model. Oh, and sometimes, during rides, the scooter slows down and doesn’t hit its top speed until a few minutes later. I suspect there’s some thermal issue causing this. Overall, there’s a lot of promise, but it’s just annoying.

Veo Cosmo X: This is not a kick scooter, but a sit-down scooter. I used it for a few months and enjoyed the ride, but the range is terrible—I barely got 10 miles out of this 94-pound behemoth at its top speed of 17 mph. Veo has its roots in the rideshare market, and this is its first entry into the consumer segment, but the specs on this scooter do not match up with the exorbitant price.

Gotrax G6 and Eclipse: These scooters have decent range and are comfy to ride. However, both of them have an overheating problem. On an 80-degree-Fahrenheit summer day, the G6 gave me the overheating error after 20 minutes of riding. It especially struggled going up a bridge. I kept having to turn it off, wait a few minutes, and start riding again, but the issue kept repeating. This same problem happened with the Eclipse, too. They’re rated to carry up to 265 pounds, so there should not have been any issues.

Atomi Alpha: This is one of the most attractive scooters in this guide (5/10, WIRED Review), but it has the worst kickstand of them all. It’s so small and vertically angled that a light wind can knock it over. The scooter offers a pretty comfy ride, with some fun visibility lights, and the whole thing is easy to fold up and carry. It just struggles to hit its top speed despite being under its weight limit. My first unit also died after a few months.

Levy Plus: My fellow WIRED reviewer Adrienne So tested a prototype of the Levy Plus in 2020. She liked its replaceable battery and reliable disc brakes, but found the whole thing “agonizingly slow on hilly terrain.” It goes up to 18 mph and is rated for 5 to 10 percent inclines, so it’s best for flat roads. It’s one of the lighter escooters out there, at just 30 pounds.

Unagi Model One Classic: Unagi lets you rent a refurbished version of its older Classic for $59 per month. I think you should stick with the new Model One Voyager instead. The specs on the Model One Classic are just too outdated.

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 885 http://livelaughlovedo.com/makeup-and-beauty-blog-monday-poll-vol-885/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/makeup-and-beauty-blog-monday-poll-vol-885/#respond Wed, 09 Jul 2025 23:34:48 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/10/makeup-and-beauty-blog-monday-poll-vol-885/ [ad_1]

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. Do you keep backups of your favorite products?

These days, the only backups I buy are things I know I’ll finish on a regular basis (like shampoo and conditioner, or body lotion). I don’t even bother with makeup backups anymore, though. If I finish something like a blush or an eyebrow pencil, great, and if it’s still around when it’s time to restock, that’s even better. If it’s discontinued, I might mourn it a little bit, but there’s always something new coming out, and I don’t mind trying new things, so I don’t stress about it too much.

2. Something that you read/watched/listened to recently that was surprisingly great?

I watched “KPop Demon Hunters” on Netflix with Connor over the weekend, and I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did. If you liked “Jem and the Holograms” back in the day, I think you’ll enjoy this movie, too.

3. Something beauty-related that you want to try?

The new tinted SPF by Merit seems intriguing!

4. Documentaries or TV shows about serial killers: yes or no?

Nope! Hard pass.

5. Something that you’re relieved to finally have gotten done?

GIRL. I finally did my nails. You don’t even want to know how tragic my pedicure has been for the last three weeks! But now everything is freshly polished and nice, and all is well with the world.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.

Cleaning brush invention with upgraded design on tiled wall and before and after floor restoration by front door

Review: “I love love love this. I dont write reviews but this one definitely deserves one. I was skeptical because I was following a tik tok trend which I NEVER do, but decided to research and purchase the correct one. When I say it was EFFORTLESS. I mean just that. I only used “awesome” brand cleaner and “fabuloso”. And it removed caked on dirt effortlessly. I put it to work in the worst areas. LOOK AT THIS!! Imagine if I would have used better cleaning products. I absolutely love it! Best thing ever” – Ira Nelson
