Summer Walker’s Finally Over It is finally (almost) here. The sultry singer revealed the long-awaited release date for the third album in her Over It trilogy with an amusing trailer/short film in which she sits down for a Vogue magazine-style lie detector test.

The test dispenses with much preamble, jumping right in with, “Is the album coming out this year?” “Yes,” Summer answers, truthfully. “Is the album coming out this month?” follows, with Summer replying, “No.”

Of course, she can’t help teasing fans with a few more questions, including “Is London On The Track?” referring to her former beau, “Will you collaborate with Chris Brown?” “Are you single?” and “Are we sliding down the walls this album?”

Eventually, though, we get to the goods: “Is the album coming out November 14th?” Well, what do you all think?

The wind-up to the album has taken over a year, with Walker first teasing a continuation of Over It in early October 2024. With a November release date, Finally Over It will be dropping four full years after Still Over It and five years after Walker’s star-making debut.

Since announcing the trifecta, the R&B star shared two singles, “Heart Of A Woman” and “Spend It,” along with a video starring the cast of P-Valley. Earlier this year, she wrapped up a tour as opener on Chris Brown’s Breezy Bowl tour.

Giveon’s new album Beloved is out today, and with it, another single taking a grown man look at love, loss, and loneliness. “I Can Tell,” like the rest of the album, is a throwback to a time when R&B exclusively featured live instruments and songwriters explored every aspect of falling in and out of love. This time around, it’s about the latter; the video opens with a train station farewell (a cinema staple from a true cinema lover) and follows the two former lovers as they sit with their regrets and memories.

The video does end on a hopeful note, with Giveon’s silhouette seen through the front door window, hesitating on whether to man up and knock or live with his mistakes. I’m a romantic; I’m betting he does the former.

The Long Beach native put in a lot of effort to differentiate his latest endeavor from much of the output of his contemporaries. Rather than relying on hip-hop production to stay relevant, Beloved is distinguished by a live band approach to songs like “Twenties” and “Rather Be,” with Giveon showing off his polished vocal prowess and delving deeper into relationship questions than “what are we?,” “u up?” or “your place or mine?” I really love it. Give it a listen, and you might too.

Breakout R&B star Leon Thomas built on the momentum of his hit song “Mutt” with a deluxe reissue of the album of the same name, Heel, last Friday, adding nine new songs to the tracklist. They included a new version of the titular track, two collaborations with Big Sean, and the focus track, “Not Fair.”

To commemorate the deluxe album’s release, Thomas stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to play “Not Fair” live, just four months removed from making his official television performance debut on The Late Show with “Mutt.” As with his previous performance, Thomas took the stage with his band, playing guitar and showing off his powerful vocals, this time amid a tangled coil of various audio cables (way more than could reasonably be expected for the current band set up). A background visualizer on the screen behind him played a distorted, closeup waveform, reminding me a little bit of those old Winamp visualizers. The performance offers an intriguing alternative listening experience for fans (similarly to The Weeknd’s “Open Hearts” video from January).
