This recap will contain spoilers for Prime Video’s Gen V, Season 2 Episode 4, “Bags”.

Hello and welcome back to our Gen V recaps, where I’m here to break down all the supe-r happenings on the GodU campus.

Previously on Gen V: Emma found herself a little group of Starlighter buddies in Harper and Ally; Jordan blasted Cate into a wall, which crushed part of her skull and put her powers on the fritz; Starlight told Marie to look into Project Odessa, which turned out to be related to her own birth at which Cipher aka Dr. Gold was present; and Jordan gave a speech that was supposed to be about their #1 ranking at the school but ended up being them confessing to being the one who hurt Cate.

This week, we open on a newscast where Firecracker is using her garbage platform to talk about a “woke plague” at God U, accusing Jordan of lying: about Andre being dead, and about Cate being attacked. Cate backs this up, making a video claiming it was definitely Starlighters that attacked her and that Jordan is a liar. Of course, Firecracker and her fellow Homelanders waste no time turning this into a transphobic attack against Jordan, saying their gender switches so obviously they’re duplicitous, even having Justine make a video with her eyes full of crocodile tears about the time they were in the same bathroom as Jordan and how traumatizing that was for her.

Poor Jordan is waiting for their meeting with Cipher, watching all this on their phone, and freaking out a little, doubting whether or not they did the right thing. Marie tries to comfort and reassure them, promising that, no matter what, SHE is on their side. Also, she knows what I said last week: God U JUST made them #1 in the rankings they hold so dear. There’s no way they’re going to kick them out of the school (or worse) and admit they made a mistake. Jordan almost laughs when Marie mentions the ranking…it used to feel so important to them, being #1, but now it all just feels so fake.

Gen V 204: Marie and Jordan stare nervously at the dean's door

Disillusionment is a sign of entering adulthood, I guess.

Just then, Cate comes storming out of the dean’s office, Cipher hot on her heels, telling her to “know her place.” He recovers his calm, cool, collected demeanor when he sees Marie and Jordan and calls them into his office.

Waiting there is Seth from Marketing (who was also on The Boys and was behind all the Brave Maeve marketing), who is here to help restore Jordan’s image by way of a 1v1 battle between the “Gender Bender” and “Blood Bender.” Marie and Jordan don’t want to fight each other, but Cipher says they have no choice. They’re going to fight, and Marie is going to win. Marie takes even more umbrage with that — she says she couldn’t kick Jordan’s ass even if she wanted to. Which, she will remind everyone, she does not!

Cipher says it’s either this or the two of them plus Emma all go right back to Elmira, so they reluctantly agree, with Cipher promising Marie private lessons to help her get ready.

When Emma finds out about this, she is none too pleased.

Gen V 204: Emma looks angry

Emma’s a baby revolutionary now, she doesn’t have time to be threatened!

Marie is still trying to think of any way out of this. Her first suggestion is to recruit Cate to use her powers to get more information. Read his mind, find out what his powers are, and “push” him to call off the fight. After all, they saw their little tiff this morning; the two aren’t as entangled as they previously thought. Emma disagrees, saying Cate has a “butthole timeshare” and that the enemy of their enemy “is extra enemy” and I just love Emma so much.

However, no one has a better idea, so they have to go with Marie’s, and off to Cate’s they go.

Gen V 204: Marie and Jordan show up at Cate's dorm room door

Don’t you hate it when your ex-friends who almost murdered you and left you for dead show up at your dorm room?

Cate isn’t exactly thrilled to see her old friends who left her for dead at her doorstep, but when Marie and Jordan say they’re on the same side and want her help to take Cipher down, she decides to hear them out. After all, it’s not like she has any other friends or allies left.

Meanwhile, Emma goes back to her new rebel buddies and gets high, debriefing them on the Cipher situation. They think that they need a backup plan in case Cate won’t help them, and decide sabotage is their best option. While trying to strategize, Emma asks Ally what her power is, and finds out that she can manipulate her pubic hair. Because of course she can.

Knowing what they’re working with was step one, but step two is having Harper help her figure out how to use her powers. Because Emma has never been able to shrink without throwing up or emotionally berating herself, and Harper seemed to be able to do it no problem when she used her chameleon abilities to “borrow” Emma’s powers for 60 seconds.

Before they can start their lessons, Ally’s brother shows up, and it’s the cute boy Emma flirted with in Modesty Monarch’s class. Emma gets cute and shy and is delighted to learn that he’s a Starlighter, too.

Back in Cate’s room, Marie and Jordan tell her their plan for her helping them, but Cate says she’s tried to read his mind before but has never been able to, and that Cipher has never let her physically close enough for her to push him. He’s clever like that.

Gen V 204: Cate looks stressed as she tells them what she knows about cipher

I know Sam is going to throw a wrench into things eventually but I’m glad Cate seems back on “our” side…she’s too powerful to have as an enemy. Or, at least, she was.

HOWEVER, she still might be able to help. Cate tells them about the weird door in his house that wasn’t there when the previous dean lived there, and that she heard a machine-like humming coming from it. They decide blackmail is their best way forward, so they make a plan to break in while Marie is in her private lessons.

While they wait for Cipher to leave so they can break in, Jordan watches a deep fake commercial Vought made for the Bender Contender fight and is getting in their head about it again. Cate and Jordan sort of fight, but within that fight are some buried apologies, and they end up sharing memories from their time together as Freshmen. And I had almost forgotten how much longer they were friends than what we’ve seen. We entered this world by way of Marie when she was a Freshman, but Cate and Jordan were Sophomores at the time, and they had already spent two semesters together, which is basically a lifetime at that age. So it was nice to be reminded of that, for us and for them, because they do end up laughing together in the end.

Gen V 204: Jordan smiles at Cate

Maybe they can do a “forgive, sounds good, forget, I’m not sure I could” situation and still be friends again? Because I want to see more of this cute smiiiiile.

Jordan admits sadly that they might never be able to fully forgive Cate, and that it actually breaks their heart. But hopefully they’ll be able to find something like friendship again. Cate says she’s glad Jordan told the truth about Andre, no matter the consequences.

Cipher leaves for his training session with Marie, and Cate and Jordan approach the guard. The plan is for Cate to push him into giving them the keys and leaving, but when she tells him to “fuck off” he instead turns around and starts fucking a garden gnome. Cate then sheepishly admits to Jordan that her powers aren’t exactly working correctly and they’re pissed that she hadn’t told them earlier. But the guard is still distracted enough for them to take the keys and go inside to snoop around. They go through the mysterious door and find a hyperbolic chamber with a crispy looking old man in it. They snap a photo and the man opens his eyes and the medical equipment starts beeping so they get the hell out of dodge.

In her one-on-one training, Marie is feeling a bit uneasy. Cipher tells her that her first assignment is to move a blood bag from one table to the other without breaking it, which she tries and fails.

Gen V 204-6 Marie holds her hand up to use her powers

But she looks cool doing it.

He coaches her, telling her to stop holding her hand out like a stereotypical superhero because that’s not how that works (even though it LOOKS cooler, just ask Wanda Maximoff). Instead, she closes her eyes and feels her way through the task, moving all the rest of the bloodbags over without a hitch.

Elsewhere, Harper is trying to teach Emma how to get small without puking or feeling like shit, but it’s not working. Harper tries to get her to get big instead, but Emma barely even tries before giving up, deeming herself hopeless. Harper tries to reassure her that she’s an inspiration, to both her and Ally, who had never shared her secret about her powers before now. Emma looks genuinely moved, but Harper is sad that motivational speech didn’t make Emma get big. They giggle together, and I know they’re very obviously trying to set Emma up with Ally’s brother, but Harper is RIGHT HERE and they’re so cute together! Just saying!!

Gen V 204: Harper and Emma laugh together

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have a doomed side crackship despite having a very lovely canon queer relationship that I also root for.

Marie’s next assignment is similar to the first, but this time she has to move a goat without exploding it. (The goat’s name is Elon though, specifically after an asshole, just in case. To ease the blow.) Marie asks what would happen if she refused to play his games, and Cipher says she’ll do what he asks because she wants to know about Project Odessa and this is the only way to get answers. Marie does not have a great poker face though, so when she tries to feign ignorance, Cipher blows her off. He says the whole point of God U was to make supes like Marie and that she could be the most powerful supe ever. Marie asks if she could be more powerful than Homelander, and Cipher doesn’t answer, which I think speaks volumes. And oh would I love nothing more than for this series to end with a queer Black woman making Homelander’s blood literally boil until he explodes. But we have to get Marie to survive to the finish line for that to happen. And for her to learn to control her powers, because while she’s floating Elon, she gets distracted by Cipher’s bulging throat veins and sure does pop him like a blood balloon. (Also I don’t know who on the writing staff she pissed off, but the next goat’s name is Julia Fox.)

Gen V 204: Marie's mouth hangs open in shock as she sees the remnants of the goat she exploded

This is how I know Marie is going to be the one to save us. Because she was just told she could be more powerful than Homelander and still feels bad about killing a goat.

The Gen V squad regroups, and even though Emma is still not loving the idea of working with Cate, she sucks it up while Cate and Jordan fill her and Marie in on what they found at Cipher’s house. Marie also shared what she found: There’s no Compound V in Cipher’s blood. She says this means they don’t know what his powers are because he has no powers. He’s not a supe at all. Marie thinks this opens up their options, saying Cate doesn’t have to be afraid of getting close enough to him to push him, but Cate confesses about her busted powers.

Oh also? Cipher has security cameras in his house and knows damn well that Cate was snooping in his secret room. Marie says they can use this to their advantage, have Cate wear a wire or something, but this is all getting a little too spycraft for Jordan. Marie insists though, saying she can just use her phone and get Cipher to admit he’s human on tape so they can blackmail him into stopping the Bender Battle.

Gen V 204: Marie hatches a plan with her friends

I know this group is all technically adults, ages like 19-22ish, but I think when they came up with this plan, they perhaps should have run it by an adultier adult like Polarity.

Emma gets on board, saying she has a crew that can help, so they devise a plan and off they go.

The night of the battle, Marie and Jordan are doing their fight prep while Emma and her Starlighters kick off their side of the plan. They put a tiny camera in a tiny backpack and give it to Emma. Ally (dubbed “The Bushmaster” by Emma) and Harper sneak into the boiler room and turn the water off so Emma can get little and sneak through the pipes to plant the camera. They run into a few hiccups along the way (including toilet-up view of a man I will never be able to scour from my brain) but eventually Emma gets the camera to Cate in the VIP lounge where she’s meeting with Cipher.

Down in the locker room, Jordan can hear the crowd chanting about how much they hate them, and Marie can tell it’s starting to get to them. Marie tells them they don’t have to pretend to be tough for her, and Jordan confesses that this whole situation is kind of a nightmare come true for them. They actually learned about their shifting powers when they were six, but hid it for years, having nightmares about everyone pointing and screaming at them, like even at that age they knew that being different could be dangerous. It’s an all-too-familiar story, and it’s heartbreaking.

Marie says that their nightmare isn’t real, and that this whole battle is fake, but that Marie is real, Jordan is real, and together, what they have? That’s real, too.

Marie says “I love you,” and makes sure Jordan hears her, and really believes her, before they have to go out into the ring.

Gen V 204: Marie leans in to comfort and reassure Jordan

“Need you to know I love you more than anything.” 🎶

Cate doesn’t end up being able to read Cipher’s mind, but she does learn a few things. For one thing, the man they found in Cipher’s house is his father. Cate apologizes but admits they were all curious about him. She lies and says her powers are back and better than ever, and that she knows his secret. She says she knows he’s human and doesn’t have powers and that if he wants to keep this a secret, he should call off the fight.

The fight which, by the way, is being stalled by Marie and Jordan, who ignore the boos and jeers of the crowd and kiss.

Gen V 204: Marie kisses Jordan

Make love, not war. ✌

Cipher and his uncanny ability to know things calls Cate out for having a camera, and realizes from a slip of Cate’s wording that Marie is the reason she thinks he knows he doesn’t have Compound V in his blood and therefore thinks he’s powerless. And while the first part might be true, Cipher soon proves that he is more powerful than they realized when he pushes into Jordan’s consciousness and uses them like “a meat puppet” to start fighting a very confused Marie.

Gen V 204: Cipher makes Jordan do a cheeky little wave up to the VIP box

Maybe his name was supposed to be Siphon but there was a typo in the school papers and he just ran with it.

“Jordan” echoes something Cipher said in training and Marie knows what’s happening and ends up floating Jordan up in the air like she did the goat, but it’s not Cipher she’s fighting, and it seems to take everything in her to not explode Jordan, but it’s the person she loves so she tries and she tries.

And then Cipher returns Jordan to their body, who starts begging Marie to stop, so Marie drops Jordan, leaving them hurt but blessedly in one piece with all their blood still on the inside of their body.

Cate stares at Cipher, confused, wondering what this all means.

Because it could mean so many things. We know from The Boys that sometimes supes don’t age the same way regular humans do, with Stormfront looking the same as she did during World War II, so is it possible he knew Godolkin personally? Is he the original supe? Does he not have Compound V in his blood because his blood was used to make the first doses of Compound V? If he is that old, how is his father still alive — is he a supe, too? One of the early experiments? Also, how often does Cipher use his powers? Has he used it already this season and we just didn’t realize it?

So many questions and I can’t wait to get the answers, and to hopefully eventually watch Cipher get his.

What Ransom Canyon’s Andrew Liner Teased About Season 2 Arc Before Exit http://livelaughlovedo.com/what-ransom-canyons-andrew-liner-teased-about-season-2-arc-before-exit/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/what-ransom-canyons-andrew-liner-teased-about-season-2-arc-before-exit/#respond Wed, 24 Sep 2025 21:05:54 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/25/what-ransom-canyons-andrew-liner-teased-about-season-2-arc-before-exit/ [ad_1]

Ransom Canyon‘s Andrew Liner hinted at a significant story line for Reid in season 2 before his shocking exit from the show.

News broke on Monday, September 22, that Liner, 24, and his onscreen dad, Eoin Macken, will not be returning as series regulars. It is unclear whether they could return in a guest star capacity after they were both large parts of the hit Netflix show’s first season.

Ransom Canyon, which premiered in April, put Reid through the wringer as he was initially mourning the loss of his cousin-in-law while fresh off a breakup with ex Lauren (Lizzy Greene). As the first season unfolded, Reid found himself at odds with his dad, Davis (Macken) and in a love triangle with Lauren and Lucas (Garrett Wareing).

Liner spoke exclusively to Us Weekly in April about where he saw Reid’s story going next.

“He should have never gone against his family. He was trying to do the right thing and he’s figuring out what is right for him. He’s constantly in this battle of what is good,” Liner explained. “I think that the most interesting stuff is going to be with his dad, with his mom and figuring out that world. Because we don’t get to see much of it in season 1 — even though it’s discussed a lot and we get to see glimpses. I am very fascinated with that.”

At the time, Liner praised Ransom Canyon for investing time in Reid’s friendship with Lucas.

“There is something to say about male friendships in general. It feels like it is a deep love,” he continued. “So I think that having that you see them come together as friends — because they’re not from jump — is a version of its own love story. But maybe it’s not as romantic.”

The actor also looked ahead at Reid’s love life. While Lauren chose Lucas in the season 1 finale, Liner expressed hope that Reid would find someone special too. (He even called Us‘ pitch for his former Vampire Academy love interest Sisi Stringer to play his Ransom Canyon girlfriend “really interesting.”)

Ransom Canyon has finally been renewed for season 2 — and there have already been teases about possible love triangle outcomes, spinoff plans and more. Based on Jodi Thomas‘ book series of the same name, Ransom Canyon introduced Us to a town full of drama, romance and hope. The first season kicked off with stoic […]

“There is something to say about being on the losing side of a love triangle because oftentimes, in the most dramatic ways of TV and movies, the guy who loses is obviously the best choice,” he noted before confirming that “the door is open” for season 2.

“Reid is in a very complicated state of mind where he is ready to be truly bad or truly good,” Liner teased. “It’s the decision of whether or not he wants to lean into one or the other. So maybe he does find a girl and it’s them together forever — or maybe he’s going to go on a tear. I don’t know which way we’re going to go.”

Ransom Canyon has been renewed for season 2 and is currently streaming on Netflix.

Has Netflix Pulled The Trigger Yet? What We Know http://livelaughlovedo.com/has-netflix-pulled-the-trigger-yet-what-we-know/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/has-netflix-pulled-the-trigger-yet-what-we-know/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 10:07:37 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/08/01/has-netflix-pulled-the-trigger-yet-what-we-know/ [ad_1]

It’s been a respectful amount of time since The Hunting Wives debuted on Netflix, so now it’s time to talk about it — because when I say Season 1 went out with a bang, well, I mean that in more ways than one. Since the series left us all reeling in a swirl of scandal, seduction, and suspicion, ~many~ questions need to be answered. But, for now, one feels more pressing than the rest: Is The Hunting Wives Season 2 going to happen?

Based on the bestselling book by May Cobb, the soapy Southern thriller has become one of summer’s most-talked-about new shows. It’s got murder and mystery. It’s got morally messy moms. It’s *extra* spicy. You can’t ask for much better in a binge-watch. So, it’s no surprise fans are already clamoring to find out if we’ll be returning to the drama-riddled town of Maple Brook, Texas, anytime soon.

Here’s what we know so far about the prospect, and what it could mean for Sophie, Margo, and their litany of dangerous secrets.

Status check: Is Season 2 happening?

Let’s start with the less-than-stellar news — as July comes to a close, Netflix has yet to officially renew The Hunting Wives for a second season. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t hold onto hope. After all, the series debuted to strong viewership: 5.2 million views in its first week, ranking No. 3 on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 shortly after its release.

Plus, the season ended on a major open-ended cliffhanger involving both Sophie (Brittany Snow) and Margo (Malin Akerman). There’s a major unresolved murder to contend with, not to mention lots o’ shifting motivations as the town reels from its recent revelations. In other words, there’s plenty of drama still left to explore, signaling strong potential for a second installment.

What are the cast and crew saying about a second season?

It would appear the major players are all in on this one. On July 29, Akerman posted an Instagram thank-you note to fans for all of the support — and squeezed in a little campaigning for more Margo. After thanking showrunner Rebecca Cutter and Cobb for creating the “powerhouse” character, Akerman added, “I love her sooooo much! The most fun I’ve ever had playing a character! Let’s go for season 2 yeah?? Who’s with me??”

Cobb, for one, is definitely down. The author responded, “Awww, Malin, thank you 😭🩷…and seriously thank YOU for being our Margo!! There is NO ONE else who coulda played her like you do – absolutely dazzling & astonishing! Gospeed Season 2. Coyote Joe’s is waitin’ for us all!🤠👢🥃

In an interview with Collider, Snow expressed her interest in returning to play Sophie. “I think the end is really interesting, and I know that we would deal with it in Season 2,” she said, explaining, “There are a lot of questions that didn’t get answered because Rebecca wants to answer them in the next season if we get one.”

And, for her part, Cutter confirms she already has some ideas for another installment.

“I think we’d do a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time,” she told Variety. “By the end of shooting, I realized that the two engines of the show are the whodunit and the Margo/Sophie relationship, and tracking how those spines intersect each other. The first thing I’m thinking about is, where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.”

So, Cutter thinks “it would be smart” to introduce a new murder mystery… but it’s a little too soon to noodle on what that might look like. “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!” she joked.

Lionsgate/Netflix

Is there enough material in the book for a Season 2?

Although the series is based on Cobb’s 2021 novel of the same name, and Cobb was very hands-on in executive-producing and shaping Season 1, the show already diverges pretty significantly from the book — especially the ending (I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t read it yet, but wowza).

That bodes well for a second season, because Cutter and Cobb have already established a great working rapport in developing a screenplay that honors Cobb’s characters even when straying from the source material. And who knows? Maybe Cobb will decide to write another book that helps introduce the new murder mystery.

When could we expect a second season?

Since Netflix hasn’t even renewed the series yet, we could be in for a bit of a wait. If we’re being super optimistic, and Netflix gets hot on that pick-up, The Hunting Wives Season 2 could potentially drop sometime in the second half of 2026.

After That Shocking ‘Buccaneers’ Episode Ending, Guy Needs To Move On From Nan With This Character http://livelaughlovedo.com/after-that-shocking-buccaneers-episode-ending-guy-needs-to-move-on-from-nan-with-this-character/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/after-that-shocking-buccaneers-episode-ending-guy-needs-to-move-on-from-nan-with-this-character/#respond Sat, 19 Jul 2025 19:07:01 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/20/after-that-shocking-buccaneers-episode-ending-guy-needs-to-move-on-from-nan-with-this-character/ [ad_1]

We are five episodes into Season 2 of The Buccaneers, and things are getting messy with all the love entanglements between the main characters. Not only are Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag) and Theo (Guy Remmers) falling for each other despite the latter being married to Nan (Kristine Froseth), but it also seems like Guy (Matthew Broome) is moving on with someone new. And to be honest, maybe it’s for the better. Although Nan sacrificed her happiness to protect her sister, she’s second-guessed her decision since the beginning of Season 2, and that has been affecting everyone in her midst. At Nan’s request, Guy left everything behind to be with Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) and keep her safe from Lord Seadown (Barney Fishwick), including relocating to Italy, pretending to be married to her, and helping to take care of her baby.

While it hasn’t been easy for either of them to let go of friends and family, they’ve found some solace in the company of a local named Paloma (Grace Ambrose). Since their arrival, she has helped the characters to adjust to their new setting and life in hiding, becoming a friend that they can rely on. In Episode 5, there is a notable shift between Guy and Paloma, when she finds out that he isn’t actually married to Jinny and that he has seemingly moved on from waiting for Nan. As the two spend the day drinking and kissing, the series hints at them becoming romantically involved rather than just having a platonic relationship.

Nan’s Visit to Italy Showed That She Can’t Be With Guy Right Now

Before the events that led Guy and Paloma to grow closer than ever before, Nan traveled to Italy on a whim. Hurt by the fact that the Dowager Duchess would only grant her a divorce from Theo if they were to welcome an heir, the protagonist flees and meets with Jinny and Guy at Porto Salvo. Although she and Guy initially struggle to get to where they left off, they slowly find their way back to each other by sneaking into a wedding reception and then spending the afternoon making up for the lost time. By the next morning, it really feels like they’ve reignited the spark that they had prior to Nan’s wedding to Theo, raising the hopes for them to finally be together.

Still, what ends up happening is that Nan sees that she can’t live out her happy ending with the person that she loves if she can’t secure Jinny’s well-being. Once again, she tears Guy’s heart apart by telling him that she has to leave and finish what she’d started by helping to pass a law that could secure Jinny’s safe return to London. Although it makes sense for Nan to put her sister first, her impulsive behavior and at times spoiled attitude have affected some of the people she cares for the most, especially Guy. Her short-lived visit to Italy only goes to show that maybe there will never be a right time for her and Guy to be together, and that it might be best for him to move on.

In Season 2, Episode 5, Nan goes back home while Guy drinks his sorrows away at the apartment he shares with Jinny. Paloma pays him a visit with the sole intention of calling him out for being unfaithful to Jinny, given that she saw him and Nan together the day prior. Yet, it is then that Guy reveals to her that he is not actually married and is only pretending to be to protect Jinny from her abusive husband. Knowing now that Guy is single and that he is ready to forget Nan, Paloma proves that she’s there for him and helps him to numb the pain with laughter and a constant pouring of liquor.

They eventually kiss, and their palpable chemistry makes it hard to deny that Guy can have a much simpler and fulfilling life with Paloma at his side. Yes, they were both drunk when they hooked up, but the next day they didn’t seem to regret their decision to cross the line from friendship to being romantically linked. One of the last scenes we see in Episode 5 features Paloma leaving Guy’s apartment and noticing that she has a wedding band, which could indicate that she and Guy might’ve eloped the night before when they weren’t completely aware of what they were doing. As messy as this revelation might be, maybe this is the opportunity for Guy and Nan to part ways and for him to carry on with someone who has been a close friend since he and Jinny relocated to Italy.

‘The Buccaneers’ Biggest Problem Involves This Character — and It Makes the Show Hard To Watch Now

It’s time to bring this storyline to an end.

The Episode Ends With Paloma Potentially Married to Guy

Guy renounced his home and a future with Nan to watch over her sister. While he doesn’t regret doing so, he’s been living miserably ever since. Nan’s latest visit only showed that they might love each other, but there are a lot of obstacles preventing them from being officially together. In the same way that Theo told Lizzy that she deserved better than forever being known as his mistress, it’s fair to say that Guy doesn’t deserve to settle for being with a woman that is already married. If the circumstances were different, maybe Nan and Guy could have the happy ending they’ve always wanted, but that doesn’t seem to be the case so far.

With Guy potentially married to Paloma, this might be the unexpected ticket for him to start over. Paloma has been nothing but a kind, considerate, and friendly presence for both Guy and Jinny since their move to Italy, and even though it was clear that she had harbored feelings for him since they met, she respected the fact that Jinny was his wife. It was only after she became aware that Guy was single and trying to forget Nan that she pursued something more with him. Although it might be unpopular to root for Nan and Guy to not end up together, Episode 5’s surprising turn convinced me that Guy should move on and Paloma seems to be the ideal person for him to end up with.

After two years of waiting, fans of The Buccaneers are finally greeted with Season 2. But no matter how long since the historical romance last hit AppleTV+, not everything is as Gilded as it once was. The new season of the series has garnered a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a slight drop compared to the Certified Fresh score of 76% when the show first aired in 2023. When fans were first introduced to the vibrant characters of Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel, there was a lot of potential.

‘DanDaDan’ Stars Share How the Vibe Shifts http://livelaughlovedo.com/dandadan-stars-share-how-the-vibe-shifts-between-season-1-and-the-tense-season-2-exclusive/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/dandadan-stars-share-how-the-vibe-shifts-between-season-1-and-the-tense-season-2-exclusive/#respond Sat, 07 Jun 2025 20:03:57 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/06/08/dandadan-stars-share-how-the-vibe-shifts-between-season-1-and-the-tense-season-2-exclusive/ [ad_1]

DanDaDan is about to get serious. When the hotly anticipated sci-fi anime premiered last year, it introduced viewers to a frantic, goofy, mysterious, and action-packed story of two high school students discovering that ghosts and aliens are very real and using their newfound abilities to combat the strange and horrific supernatural entities around them. The stakes are higher in Season 2, though, as Momo (Abby Trott) and Okarun (AJ Beckles) face their greatest threats yet, including, most notably, the demonic Evil Eye, who pushes the pair to their limits. During a conversation with Collider’s Laura Adams for the Evil Eye compilation movie, English dub stars Beckles, Trott, and Aleks Le opened up about how the new arc sends the series in a more intense direction that leaves behind a bit of the laughs for more serious storylines.

Evil Eye kicks off the second season on the silver screen, covering the events of the first three episodes of Season 2 with the introduction of the Avatar of Hatred, who possesses Momo’s childhood friend Jiji (Le). It’s all part of the Cursed House arc, which sees the three teens discovering the dark secrets of Jiji’s home and tangling with the demonic force within. The danger is at an all-time high with Evil Eye vowing to kill all humans it comes across, leaving Okarun with no choice but to try to subdue the powerful foe before it can harm anyone else. With the more personal stakes for Jiji as the unwitting antagonist and the work Season 1 did to establish its characters, their relationships, and abilities, Beckles believes the season takes a more serious tone from the get-go in accordance with what the characters are feeling. Its job is to kick the story and character arcs of Yukinobu Tatsu‘s manga into overdrive.

DanDaDan is also a show about adolescence and, more specifically, the budding relationship between Okarun and Momo. If Season 1 showed where the teens are in life, Season 2 pushes their emotions to the extreme in the face of overwhelming forces a typical high schooler would never be confronted with:

“The first one I feel it was very establishing. It was a very ‘here’s the characters, here’s everyone’s little backstories,’ and, you know, introducing us to the world and where will the story go. The story is about relationships and adolescence. This season, so far to me, feels more like it’s focused on driving that plot forward, right? How far can we push those adolescent emotions? How much more of the action can we show? How many obstacles can be put into the middle of these relationships and watch them grow from there? I think that’s the vibe, and you can see that it’s a lot more tense. The first season obviously had some serious moments in those first couple of episodes, but a lot of it was just like, you know: funny, funny joke, serious, funny, funny, funny. [The second season is serious] straight out the gate. There are some funny moments, but mostly it’s serious, which is cool.”

‘DanDaDan’ Season 2 Is “A Lot More Purple” Than Its Predecessor

It’s not just the story and characters that are changing in Season 2. Anyone who’s seen the promotions for the new episodes will notice that DanDaDan‘s color palette is increasingly dominated by purple. “Yeah, I mean, it’s a lot more purple,” Le added, which Beckles and Trott agreed with. The color is tied heavily to Evil Eye, but it also symbolizes the gravity of the situation the teens are stuck in. On every level, creatively, the show wants viewers to know that the stakes are real and there’s a real chance Momo and Okarun won’t be strong enough to come out on top this time. “There’s definitely, and especially in the first three episodes, a lot of unsettling feelings and a kind of despair with the whole Evil Eye situation,” Trott continued. “So it’s kicking it off pretty dark.”

DanDaDan: Evil Eye is currently in theaters ahead of Season 2’s premiere on July 3 on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Stay tuned here at Collider for more on the hit anime leading up to its return. Check out the rest of Adams’ conversation with the cast below.

Summer has only just begun, but there’s already one big reason to look forward to fall — the return of Nobody Wants This, of course.

Last year, Erin Foster’s Netflix rom-com series debuted to viral acclaim as fans swooned over the unexpected romance between Noah, a rabbi, and Joanne, a relationship podcaster. (I still can’t get their first-kiss song out of my head.)

In the first season finale, Joanne tried to end things with Noah. Despite their love for each other, she didn’t want Noah to have to choose between his career and their relationship. But in a sweet cliffhanger in the episode’s final moments, Noah ran after Joanne, proving his intentions with another cinematic kiss.

As Adam Brody, who plays Noah, told Netflix, the scene represented his character making Joanne a “priority.” But how (or if) that plays out remains to be seen in Season 2. “What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to [lop] off a limb,” he said.

What else does this next chapter have in store? Here’s everything to know about the Nobody Wants This Season 2 release date, cast, plot, and other exciting details.

Mark Your Calendar

It’s official: Noah and Joanne’s story resumes on Thursday, Oct. 23.

Meet The Nobody Wants This Cast

Of course, Brody — who won a Critics Choice Award for his performance in Season 1 — and Kristen Bell will be back as Noah and Joanne.

In addition to the star-crossed couple, the returning cast includes Justine Lupe as Joanne’s sister, Morgan, and Timothy Simons as Noah’s brother, Sasha. Jackie Tohn is back as Sasha’s wife, Esther.

Tovah Feldshuh and Paul Ben-Victor return as Bina and Ilan, the brothers’ parents — while Stephanie Faracy and Michael Hitchcock are back as the sisters’ parents, Lynne and Henry. Sherry Cola and D’Arcy Carden will again play Joanne’s friends, Ashley and Ryann.

But there are also several newcomers to the Nobody Wants This Season 2 cast — including Leighton Meester, Brody’s IRL wife, who will play Abby, a mommy influencer who was Joanne’s rival in middle school.

Miles Fowler plays a Matzah Ballers player, Lenny, who is set up with Morgan. But according to Netflix, Morgan may also find a potential connection with a charming psychotherapist named Dr. Andy, who is played by Succession alum Arian Moayed.

Finally, Alex Karpovsky will play an “overly confident” rabbi named Big Noah.

So… What Happens In Season 2?

Naturally, Noah and Joanne’s love story will be the heart of Season 2. While they definitely have some things to work through, Foster — who was inspired by her own real-life love story when creating Nobody Wants This — has teased a hopeful future for the pair.

“Joanne does not have to have the same journey that I had,” she told The Hollywood Reporter, referring to the decision to convert to Judaism in her own life. “But, I don’t think this is the kind of show to rob the audience of what they want to see. I think this is a show where you want to get what you want.”

But there’s one pairing you won’t be seeing in Season 2 — at least, not in a romantic sense. Morgan and Sasha will be just friends in the new batch of episodes, despite their chemistry-filled connection raising eyebrows in Season 1. “I think we went down that road enough that now we’re going to pull back and reposition so we can have them all in scenes together without [Morgan] being like, a full homewrecker,” Foster told THR.

Looking even further ahead, Foster shared that she has plans for the show beyond Season 2, which, yay! But for now, the fall return of Nobody Wants This is more than enough to celebrate.
