As a maximalist, you know I live for a good statement piece. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how we’re slowly moving away from the quiet luxury trend. More and more brands are embracing bold, eye-catching styles. And personally, I’m here for it! I love how unique touches can instantly elevate a simple outfit—add a pop of animal print to a classic look, mix unexpected clothing color combinations, or layer chunky necklaces over your favorite white button-down. There are so many ways to play around and have fun with statement pieces!While I could go on and on about all the eye-catching styles I love, today I’ll mainly be focusing on my current summer favorites. For me, these fall into three categories: standout necklaces, fun sequins, and unique tops! What are Statement Pieces?

Before diving into my current favorite standout styles, I wanted to quickly touch on what a statement piece actually is. As you might guess, these are items that feel new, unusual, or catch the eye in an unexpected way. Think: a bold accessory, a casual sneaker paired with a dressy dress, or a striking outfit that turns heads the moment you walk into a room.

And while those might be the first examples that come to mind, don’t forget—even the most basic items can become statement pieces when styled creatively. Maybe you throw an elegant sweater over a simple activewear look. Suddenly, that sweater becomes the focal point, elevating the entire outfit. Sometimes, it’s not about picking the boldest item—but about how you wear it. It’s all in the styling!

My Top Three Summer Statement Pieces

Summer is always one of my favorite seasons to get creative with fashion. Between the vibrant colors, breezy fabrics, and playful details, it’s the perfect time to have fun with standout pieces. After going through my current closet favorites, I kept coming back to three main types of styles I’ve been wearing on repeat: bold necklaces, anything with sequins, and unique, eye-catching tops. Let’s dive in!

1. Statement Necklaces

Jewelry stacking and layering has come back with a roar—and I’m here for it. I’ve been piling on bracelets and necklaces like it’s 2013. The more, the merrier.

I’ve recently written a few jewelry posts covering how to layer necklaces, my everyday jewelry staples, and a colorful jewelry update. While those featured a variety of styles, today I’m focusing specifically on statement necklaces—some so big and bold they can stand alone, and others that I love pairing with daintier pieces to create a more dynamic layered look.

Bold Shell Necklaces

Shells and all things sea-inspired are everywhere this season (you can see some of my favorites here and here). So it makes sense that bold shell necklaces are trending.

If you’re into a drop-style shell necklace, the ones that have caught my eye are this one, this one, and this one. If you’re looking for something more natural and organic-feeling, I’ve had this shell and stone necklace and this sea glass and shell cord one in my cart for about two weeks (they would all go so well with this dress I styled here). Prefer metals? Look no further than this gold shell pendant and this silver beaded necklace. And if you’re really feeling bold, I recently bought this super funky under-$100 necklace that is styled above with my newest favorite blazer! I also just got this stunning resin and gold shell necklace I styled above and here!

Speaking of styling—shell necklaces are incredibly easy to wear. You can pair them with everything from an easy linen tunic to a tie-dye slip dress!

Bubble Necklaces

Big bubble necklaces seem to be popping up more and more. Since they typically sit high and close to the neck, I think they look best with a strapless style or anything with an open neckline. And if you really play your cards right, you can find a top or dress with a neckline that perfectly mimics the shape of the necklace—which is such a fun way to make a statement (when done right).

There’s a wide range of bubble necklaces out there at all kinds of price points. Some of my current favorites include this super oversized one and this colorful one. I think this one is one of the best ones under $100 right now and it comes in 6 colors. If those are a bit too bold for you, I’d check out this smaller under-$30 version and this blue Tiger’s Eye necklace from Dorsey Jewelry—one of my favorite brands! Charm Necklaces

How charming! Charms are taking over, and we’re seeing them on everything from jewelry to bags. A statement charm necklace can add the perfect amount of whimsy to any look

Prefer to keep things simple? This sea-inspired charm necklace is a great option. If you like a chunkier style, this one is super fun—and the colors will transition perfectly into fall. 2. Statement Sequins

Next up: sequin statement pieces for summer. Sequins are always part of the fashion mix, and lately I’ve been loving all the cool, casual ways they’ve been reimagined for summer. And yes—once again—this includes sequin shells!

Two of my most recent favorite finds are this sequin wrap skirt and this embellished bag, seen above. Sheer sequins are also top of mind—like this under-$100 slip dress that doubles as a cover-up, this neutral mini dress, and this fun midi skirt. Want even more shimmer? Looking Ahead to Fall

I know I said I was focusing on summer, but there are a few fall sequin pieces I just have to share. No one does knits like Zankov, and this sequined polo sweater is at the top of my fall wishlist—right alongside this midi skirt in the most beautiful color palette. 3. Statement Tops

Last—but certainly not least—are standout tops. A top can make a statement in so many ways, whether it’s the cut, a bold pattern, or an oversized ruffle.

When it comes to bold stripes, this sarong top and this voluminous blouse are two of my current favorites. Another great way to stand out right now? Fringe. This fringe tank, this open-knit top, and this party-ready fringe blouse all prove that you can create a “wow” outfit even when you’re just pairing them with simple denim.
