The U.S. government might be shut down, but its meme machine is working overtime. In what some are calling a new low for political discourse, both parties are slinging AI-generated memes to win over voters—and trolls.

Featured Video

It started with Donald Trump’s team posting a barrage of AI-edited videos showing Democratic leaders like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and mustache.

The clips suggest Democrats want to throw a “medical money party at the undocumented,” as Stephen Colbert sarcastically put it.

But the president’s allies didn’t stop there. Vice President J.D. Vance doubled down in a public statement, saying, “If Hakeem Jeffries helps us reopen the government, the sombrero memes will stop.”

Colbert, naturally, responded on The Late Show with a satirical sketch and a promise of his own: “If you resign as VP, I won’t keep showing that every chance I get.”

Ronny Chieng breaks down both sides

Over on The Daily Show, Ronny Chieng tackled the so-called meme war from both directions. He mocked Democrats for their weak responses, including a “Kitty Explains” meme blaming the GOP for the shutdown. “Wow, that was also not good,” he said. “Still better than whatever Batman villain Chuck Schumer is turning into.”

But Republicans, Chieng argued, aren’t faring any better. “The sombrero meme is undefeated,” he quipped, pointing to Ted Cruz’s version of the meme slapped onto 44 Democratic senators. “Once Ted Cruz joins in on something, it’s dead.”

Chieng then turned to the real reason Republicans are using the meme: to claim Democrats are shutting down the government to fund healthcare for undocumented immigrants. But as he explained, that accusation doesn’t hold up.

Colbert takes it further

Colbert tore into the infantile nature of the meme war. “This is now our level of political discourse,” he said. “This is worse than the Lincoln-Douglas debates when Abe said, ‘Here’s a drawing I did of Mr. Douglas eating horse droppings.’”

He also shared his own couch-themed meme of JD Vance.

Not everyone thinks the meme war is funny. One YouTube commenter wrote, “This is the worst American government I’ve ever had the displeasure of living under. Thank you, Mr. Colbert, for your satirical skewering of the truth.”

Others called out the hypocrisy: “They are lying to take money away from Americans to go to the billionaires, and blaming immigrants.”

As one viewer said under Chieng’s segment: “I hate it here. I don’t want a meme war. I want a boring, dull government that works.”

Julia Roberts’ Shakespeare Outfit Turned Heads http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/julia-roberts-shakespeare-outfit-for-the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert-turned-heads/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/beauty/julia-roberts-shakespeare-outfit-for-the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert-turned-heads/#respond Fri, 03 Oct 2025 08:12:19 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/10/03/julia-roberts-shakespeare-outfit-for-the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert-turned-heads/ [ad_1]

Julia Roberts is really taking the promotion of her latest movie, After The Hunt, seriously. The actor stepped out in an outfit emblazoned with embellished William Shakespeare motifs as she arrived to appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday evening. The reason for the head-scratching look? Another tribute to Luca Guadagnino, the director behind the tense drama which hits theaters this month.

Fans may remember that back in August, when Roberts touched down in Italy for the Venice Film Festival, the Hollywood icon was photographed in a grey knit cardigan featuring Guadagnino’s face — almost distracting from the fact that she was also the first-ever celebrity to carry Michael Rider’s New Luggage handbag for Celine.

A new version of the infamous knit returned to the spotlight on Wednesday as the 57-year-old arrived to the Midtown Manhattan studios, peeking out from underneath her eye-catching coat. On Instagram, Roberts’ longtime stylist Elizabeth Stewart explained that the knitted Guadagnino sweater was her client’s idea. “Julia wanted to make them to celebrate After The Hunt’s fabulous director and cast, so I asked my friend Jeff Vespa — who has photographed Luca many times — to design them with me, and then Jeff just made it all happen. Then Julia came up with the name ‘twinship knits’ based on [us all] sometimes twinning. And yes, there will be more collaborations to come for all kinds of sweaters!”

As for the Shakespeare tie-in? The black longline coat, designed by New York-based brand Libertine, nods to the Italian director’s uncanny resemblance to the English playwright.

“I was up all night,” the actor joked to Colbert, miming knitting actions, when asked about the garment on air.

While quirky in theory, Stewart ensured the oversized sweater dress was ready for waiting photographers with the addition of Jimmy Choo pumps and Wolford nylon tights, a Chopard watch, and tinted sunglasses by Tribal. The mom-of-three also carried a sleek Numèro Dix black leather handbag by Polène. Industry favorite hairstylist Serge Normant was on hand to sweep her auburn hair into a loose up-do with face-framing side bangs, while her go-to makeup artist Genevieve Herr was enlisted for a subtle and understated beauty look.

Roberts’ Libertine look

Receiving a standing ovation as she joined the host, Roberts had slipped into an immaculately-tailored grey suit which paid homage to one of her most famous looks ever: the era-defining Giorgio Armani suit and tie ensemble worn to the Golden Globe Awards in 1990.

On Wednesday, Roberts’ updated power suit was accentuated by a tie adorned with embellished vintage brooches — a styling cue she had tried out earlier in the week for the New York premiere of the movie too.

As she does the rounds of studios in New York City, Roberts also stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week in a head-to-toe Celine look by Rider comprised of a black blazer, crisp white button down, and straight leg denim.

After The Hunt, which also stars Andrew Garfield, Chloe Sevigny, and Ayo Edebiri, will be released on October 10 in theatres nationwide before its Amazon Prime launch later this month.

2025 Is the Year Late Night TV Fell Apart: A Complete Timeline http://livelaughlovedo.com/entertainment/2025-is-the-year-late-night-tv-fell-apart-a-complete-timeline/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/entertainment/2025-is-the-year-late-night-tv-fell-apart-a-complete-timeline/#respond Thu, 18 Sep 2025 12:19:00 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/09/18/2025-is-the-year-late-night-tv-fell-apart-a-complete-timeline/ [ad_1]

The late-night TV lineup is undergoing a drastic shakeup this year.

From the cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to ABC abruptly pulling Jimmy Kimmel off the air, it’s been a time of upheaval for weeknight comedy programs.

Here are the latest shifts in the 2025 late-night landscape:

Stephen Colbert Canceled

On July 17, the affable host surprised viewers when he announced that his CBS show will end in May 2026

“Next year will be our last season, the network will be ending The Late Show in May,” Colbert, 61, said on the air.

When the studio audience began to boo, he remarked, “I share your feelings.”

“It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of The Late Show on CBS. I’m not being replaced,” he said. “This is all just going away. I do want to say that the folks at CBS have been great partners. … And I’m grateful to the audience, you, who have joined us every night, in here, out there, and all around the world.”

Following the news, CBS issued a statement claiming that the decision was “financial” and unrelated “in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Kimmel supported Colbert publicly, writing via his Instagram Story,  “F*** you and all your Sheldons CBS.”

And over the summer, Andy Cohen — who hosts Watch What Happens Live on Bravo — weighed in on the cancellation, saying, “I think it’s a sad day for late night television. I think it’s a sad day for CBS. I think Stephen Colbert is a singular talent. He’s going to have an incredible next chapter. I can’t believe CBS is turning off the lights at 11:30 after the local news. I’m stunned. He’s one of three late night shows deemed worthy enough for an Emmy nomination. He produces a brilliant show.”

Colbert and his team triumphed at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 14, finally scoring the award for Outstanding Talk Series for the very first time after multiple nominations over the past decade.

The crowd chanted Colbert’s name as he took the stage to accept the trophy.

“Sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it,” he said in his speech. “Ten years later, in September of 2025, my friends, I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong, be brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor!”

Talking to Us Weekly and other outlets backstage at the Emmys, the comedian said that he planned to focus on The Late Show for the time being.

“I love what we do, and I want to go to work on Tuesday and for the next nine months with these people and work hard but have fun,” Colbert said. “We do the show with each other; we do the show for each other every day. And then I have the privilege and the responsibility that day to share with the audience what we did. And I love it, and I know it’s coming to the end in May, but I’m going to savor every day of it. I want to land this plane absolutely beautifully, and I got nothing else on my mind.”

ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Off the Air

The network stunned Kimmel’s fans when it pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! following backlash over his recent comments about the late Charlie Kirk

“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson confirmed to Us on Wednesday, September 17.

ABC’s move came after Nexstar Media, who owns multiple TV stations, reportedly threatened to eliminate Kimmel from its late-night schedule. The company told Variety in statement that its “owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future, beginning with tonight’s show.”

Kimmel, 57, made headlines for remarks he made during a Monday, September 15 monologue where he spoke about Tyler Robinson, who is accused of shooting and killing Kirk, a conservative commentator, during a September 10 speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.

“The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his talk show. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

Before his monologue, Kimmel took to Instagram and condemned gun violence in the wake of Kirk’s death.

“Instead of angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” he wrote.  “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

Trump celebrates “The Late Show” cancellation, hopes for more late-night turmoil http://livelaughlovedo.com/culture-and-society/trump-celebrates-the-late-show-cancellation-hopes-for-more-late-night-turmoil/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/culture-and-society/trump-celebrates-the-late-show-cancellation-hopes-for-more-late-night-turmoil/#respond Tue, 22 Jul 2025 22:26:17 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/23/trump-celebrates-the-late-show-cancellation-hopes-for-more-late-night-turmoil/ [ad_1]

President Donald Trump couldn’t be happier about the cancellation of “The Late Show.” In fact, he’s taking partial credit for it.

In a post to Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump celebrated the upcoming end of host Stephen Colbert‘s stint behind the desk and suggested that other late-night shows might be next.

“The word is, and it’s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, [Jimmy] Fallon will be gone,” Trump wrote. “It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!”

Colbert and CBS announced the end of the series last week. The show began under late-night legend David Letterman will wrap in May after more than 30 years on the air. Trump reacted to that announcement with more praise on Friday morning.

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” the president wrote. “His talent was even less than his ratings.”

Colbert responded to Trump’s celebratory post with a warning that “the gloves are off.”

“Go f**k yourself,” Colbert said. “I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump, starting right now: I don’t care for him. Doesn’t seem to have the skill set to be president. Just not a good fit.”

CBS claimed their decision to end the show was “purely” financial. Critics of the move aren’t so sure, pointing out that Colbert’s slow-motion axing came after the host accused CBS’ parent company of paying the president a “big, fat bribe.” Paramount recently agreed to settle a Trump lawsuit over a segment on CBS’ “60 Minutes” for $16 million. The move comes as the company is seeking to merge with Skydance Media, a move that requires the approval of the Trump administration’s Federal Communications Commission.

During Colbert’s monologue on Monday, he promised as much to keep poking the network and Paramount.

“It’s sunk in that they’re killing off our show, but they made one mistake,” Colbert said. “They left me alive.”
