By Lila Chen – Sustainable Living & Beauty Enthusiast

Imagine stepping into a sun-drenched haven where the rugged beauty of the Nevada desert seamlessly blends with sleek, modern lines—organic stone walls echoing the nearby mountains, floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip, and every corner whispering a story of thoughtful, eco-conscious design. That’s the magic of 21 Rockstream Drive in Ascaya, a luxurious Henderson home where Vesta’s visionary team has curated an interior design fusion that feels both grounded in nature and elevated in sophistication. As a 31-year-old eco-beauty blogger who’s swapped out countless zero-waste elements in my Seattle apartment, I get excited about spaces like this that prioritize sustainability without skimping on style. This 6,305-square-foot masterpiece, built in 2023 by Blue Heron and priced at around $8.9 million, isn’t just a house—it’s an invitation to live harmoniously with the environment. Let’s dive into how Vesta curates inside design fusion at 21 Rockstream Drive, Ascaya, and uncover tips to bring that same vibe into your own home.

The Vision Behind Ascaya: A Desert Oasis Community

Nestled in the exclusive Ascaya community in Henderson, Nevada, 21 Rockstream Drive embodies the enclave’s ethos of blending luxury with the natural landscape. Ascaya, known for its custom homesites carved into the McCullough Mountains, offers residents unparalleled privacy and views. This half-acre lot at 21 Rockstream Drive maximizes those assets, with the home’s design prioritizing biophilic elements—think natural light, earthy materials, and indoor-outdoor flow that reduces stress and boosts well-being, as supported by studies from the Environmental Working Group.

What makes this property stand out? Its fusion of desert modern architecture with sustainable touches, creating a sanctuary that’s as functional as it is beautiful. If you’re dreaming of a similar setup, start by incorporating biophilic principles in your space—perhaps with a red light therapy lamp to mimic natural sunlight indoors, enhancing your daily glow-up routines just like I do during rainy Seattle days.

Blue Heron’s Architectural Masterpiece: Form Meets Desert Function

Blue Heron, the architects behind this gem, specialize in biophilic design that integrates the home with its surroundings. At 21 Rockstream Drive, the structure features clean lines, expansive glass walls, and organic forms that echo the desert’s contours. The 5-bedroom, 6-bath layout spans 6,305 square feet, with smart home tech controlling everything from lighting to climate—perfect for energy efficiency.

The backyard oasis steals the show: a resort-style pool, spa, and alfresco kitchen designed for entertaining under the stars. Drawing from my own zero-waste swaps, I love how this setup encourages outdoor living, reducing reliance on indoor AC. To recreate that alfresco vibe at home, consider adding a portable heater for cooler evenings—it’s a staple in my patio setup for year-round use.

The primary suite, for instance, features a spa-like bathroom with natural stone vanities and rainfall showers, promoting that daily self-care ritual I swear by. The transformation of New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) continues to surge ahead. This week, the airport reached a substantial milestone when the brand-new Terminal 6 finished its curtain walls and enclosed the new terminal for the first time.

It’s a major milestone, and the airport is on track to hold a grand opening this coming January — ahead of schedule.

TPG was one of only two media outlets that got a tour of the new terminal, which will be a major step forward for airport infrastructure in the Northeast.

We also got our first look at a newly unveiled art installation that will greet passengers as they arrive at the airport. You can see what that spectacular mural will look like in the illustration below.

The 12,000 square foot “JFK Global Panorama” is a custom-designed, 3D ombre artwork featuring iconic New York City-based imagery and flight routes illustrating global connectivity.

A transformed JFK Airport and brand-new Terminal 6

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs JFK, is in the middle of a $19 billion project to transform the airport. When it’s done, there will be several brand-new terminals, as well as new roads and ramps to make getting to and from the airport much easier.

The team behind the fabulous Terminal B at New York City’s totally redone LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is also building Terminal 6 at JFK.

JFK Millennium Partners gave TPG a tour of the new Terminal 6 and told us about how Terminal 7 next door will eventually get torn down. In its footprint, another four gates for the second phase of the project will become part of an expanded Terminal 6. The second phase is expected to open in 2028.

The new terminal will be a whopping 1.2 million square feet and offer 10 new gates, several of which will be built to handle wide-body jets. You can get a good idea of the size of the space when you look out over the new central hub of the new terminal.

“This success supports other upcoming milestones, including adding permanent power and live testing the building,” JFK Millennium Partners said in a press release.

The press release continued: “More than 1,200 local workers are currently on site to ensure a smooth opening for more than a dozen carriers that will be relocating to the new terminal, among them: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, ANA, Austrian Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Condor, Frontier, JetBlue, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa, Norse Atlantic, and SWISS.”

Beginning at departures, passengers can look forward to the new terminal’s digital-first guest experience, with a massive light-filled hall filled with digital billboards and blond wood accents.

The departures area will feature one of the longest departures curbs at JFK, with airline-branded passenger drop-off zones.

They are completely reconstructing the roadway system in front of the terminal, too. It will have more logical entry and exit spots, as well as easy access to two different AirTrain stations.

In the end, it will be less than a five-minute average walk from the TSA security checkpoint exit to all gates.

Once through security, you will be able to enter the giant welcome hall, the Grand Hall, which will feature a massive skylight and 100,000 square feet of New York City-inspired shopping and dining outlets.

It’s an awe-inspiring space, even if it still looks like a construction zone.

You can tell how glorious it will eventually be. Here are some renderings of what the final product might look like.

Terminal 6 will have five airline lounges airside, plus an arrivals lounge. JFK Millennium told me there is not yet a confirmed airline to host the first-ever arrivals lounge at JFK Airport (so if you’re an interested airline, there’s still time to grab the space).

It’s hard to tell in the photos below, but this is where Lufthansa is opening a massive new lounge in Terminal 6, which will have a dedicated entrance via escalators. While we don’t yet have all the details, we expect it will include dedicated Lufthansa first-class, business-class and Senator lounges.

Cathay Pacific is going to open its first-ever JFK lounge in this space, too. A huge announcement about one of that lounge’s cool features should come soon.

Aer Lingus has also confirmed that it will have a dedicated lounge in Terminal 6; it will be reachable via a set of stairs you can see in the photo below.

In the photo above, you can see that the left side is where you’ll walk toward Terminal 5 once construction is complete.

The new terminal will be connected both land- and airside to the adjacent Terminal 5, which is home to JetBlue Airways’ JFK hub. By the time the project is done, you’ll be able to go back and forth between terminals 5 and 6 for shopping and even lounge hopping.

Terminal 6 and JetBlue’s Terminal 5 will actually share a customs hall. You can see the photos of the new customs area in the gallery below; it will feature wide-open spaces and natural light coming from the walls and ceiling above.

The baggage system is impressive. It begins with biometric bag drops at check-in. From there, luggage gets carried through a complex system of conveyer belts and scanned by robots.

Another thing to note about the project is its environmental focus. The terminal uses sustainably sourced building materials, rooftop solar power, and energy-efficient systems and operating practices throughout. JFK Millennium Partners told me it is aiming to have LEED Silver or Gold certification for the project.

Bottom line

PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY

When finished, the transformed Terminal 6 will be a sight to behold. From the dramatic skylights to the massive Grand Hall, the biometric screening and bag drops to the robotic baggage handlers, this airport terminal will be quite a revelation.

It could end up being one of the country’s best airport terminals — and will give the other LGA and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) a real run for best tri-state airport once it’s all done.

French Makers Are Celebrating This Weekend! http://livelaughlovedo.com/hobbies-and-crafts/french-makers-are-celebrating-this-weekend/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/hobbies-and-crafts/french-makers-are-celebrating-this-weekend/#respond Sat, 14 Jun 2025 07:24:50 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/06/14/french-makers-are-celebrating-this-weekend/ [ad_1]

Today and through the weekend makers, innovators, and creatives of all ages will have the opportunity to show off their skills and learn new ones–not only at Maker Faire Lille, the country’s flagship event, and Maker Faire Lens (also in Northern France), but at over 100 “mini” events across France and as far away as Corsica. Since 2016, Maker Faires in France have been co-developed with Leroy Merlin. Each edition highlights innovative projects by craftspeople and connects communities to encourage cooperation. Visitors become participants, the events inviting everyone to become a maker in their turn.

Maker Faire Lille: June 13-15th

MAKER FAIRE LILLE is back (already) in June and is taking over the EURATECHNOLOGIES spaces for the first time in the heart of the Bois Blancs district of Lille on June 13, 14 and 15, 2025. It’s going to be big… and also beautiful, inspiring, innovative! Last year, the event was held in November, so its been just over 6 months of incroyable planning to deliver this weekend’s many delights.

Friday, June 13th is designated an Education Day — a time when Maker Faires focus on students and youth activation, building the next generation of makers. This free event is dedicated to school audiences, from CP to Terminale and beyond. A unique opportunity to discover the world of makers and innovation through a series of exciting activities! “We believe it is essential to help young people better understand the world in which they are growing up, to give them the keys to become actors/makers themselves and to make them aware that living in the world is everyone’s responsibility and that we can all be actors by becoming makers.” On the program:

  • Interactive stands to discover inspiring projects
  • Creative workshops to learn while having fun
  • Conferences led by experts

A day not to be missed to stimulate curiosity, develop new skills and inspire vocations!

Makers + Activations

There are makers engaging in every sort of work at Lille this year. Here are a few of our favorites!

MaxiCat by Maxime Catteau

A former graphic designer and printer turned successful precarious artist, in his Lille studio MaxiCat creates silkscreen prints of posters, stickers and other badges, as well as packaging for parodic consumer products; fast food packaging guaranteed to cause food poisoning, depressing toys, deadly candies, always disappointing scratch cards, and other vinyl records by artists as distressing as they are fictional. Between criticism of consumer society, punk outlet and meticulous diversion, his colorful and detailed works address subjects such as depression, junk food, nostalgia or sexuality, all buried under 4 passages of fluorescent ink, dark humor and references to pop culture.

Ponytrap: Musician Quentin Oliver has been away from his home base in Austin, TX the last few years and sharing his unique “post-industrial music for modern primitives” across Europe. He started building MAX, Ponytrap’s giant mechanical drum, because he couldn’t find the right people to join the band.

YMNK is a multi-instrumentalist, hyperactive tinkerer of synths that he makes himself, developer, researcher, and tinkerer. “Since I was very young, I have always been passionate about two things: music and technology. So I composed my first pieces as a teenager while programming my first video games on the family computer. After studying audiovisual engineering, I joined a computer company. As for music, I joined the band Shiko Shiko with whom we recorded 2 albums and played more than 200 concert dates across Europe and Japan. With these experiences, I created with friends the company BLEASS, specialized in the development of musical applications for phones and tablets. This led me to develop, among other things, Jean-Michel JARRE’s application: EōN. For several years I have been making my own synthesizers and using them in my musical project.

Perennial Maker Faire favorite EXOOT is coming to Lille this year. Maker Tristan Kruithof – who also makes some incredibly cool sculptures that we saw at Maker Faire Prague last year.

A Citroën with a healthy dose of positivism: it grooves, flirts and flies along the streets. A street phenomenon with a headstrong personality, AMI6 plays with – and frequently surprises – the audience.Exoot is the company that brings together Tristan Kruithof’s objects, installations, and performances. Exoot is a collective that operates under his artistic direction and performs at festivals and events.
