There’s something about the start of fall that makes us want to draft mental mood boards—proof, perhaps, that back-to-school optimism never really dies. Here at Condé Nast Traveler, we like to chart new beginnings vis-à-vis destinations, keeping in mind the things we’re excited to bring along with us. This fall, some of us are embracing shoulder season travel, squeezing out the last bits of sunshine from places like the Hamptons or the South of France, while others are chasing the changing colors of the trees in Austin and Montreal. We’ve got a few weddings on the docket, too, which means we’re carefully considering what’s going into our suitcases. Here, our editors share what they’re up to in the autumn months ahead, and what they’re adding to their packing lists.

When my son was little, I used to live on the East End of Long Island, and I’m long overdue for a visit. Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays was vacant for a few years, but it’s been newly refurbished, so I’m curious to see what it’s like now. I’m also really psyched to stay at Shou Sugi Ban House, which is another property that didn’t exist when I lived in the area. I still dream about the delicious brussels sprouts and skillet cornbread at Cowfish, where you can have brunch by the inlet and watch boats go by. I used to work down the street from Tate’s on North Sea Road in Southampton, which is great if you don’t mind gaining 50 pounds every day. Most people don’t realize that those delicious crispy cookies in the ubiquitous green package originated from a real place! I especially look forward to stocking up on its gingerbread cookies, which are only sold in-store, and stashing them in my Dagne Dover backpack. I’ll be rocking this tuxedo shirt from Anthro and this denim blazer while hanging out, and dark neutrals from Beyond Yoga while jogging along Dune Road. Alexandra Sanidad, research director

Come October, I’ll be going to Montreal and then Quebec City to attend a travel conference. I’ve visited the former several times and love it dearly—when I’m there, I’ll eat, eat, and eat some more everywhere from Joe Beef and Fairmount Bagels to Vin Mon Lapin and Pichai. Between all the eating, I’ll do some walking—early autumn is a lovely time to be outside in this part of Canada—up Mont Royal as well as here, there, and everywhere in my trusty Weejuns, which are my walking shoes of choice. Most of my clothes are hand-me-downs or bought on eBay, but I will also likely be packing some broken-in Oxfords from J. Crew and my trusty pair of Achille jeans from A.P.C. (it will be well past Labor Day, but I find that cream-colored denim goes quite nicely with a navy sweater) in my Carl Friedrick carry-on. I also have a cable knit zip-up cardigan that belonged to my grandmother but looks something like this current model. The train will bring me to Quebec City, where I have not yet been but will be staying at the historic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. Work can be such a drag. Charlie Hobbs, associate editor

As summer turns to fall, travel plans also transition from the beach to leaf-peeping hot spots. But during peak color times, many of those places are often teeming with people.

If you’d rather enjoy nature than hordes of other people, this list is for you.

We’ve picked 11 lesser-known fall foliage destinations to visit between late September and late October. From idyllic U.S. towns to stunning Croatian national parks and even a prime northern lights spot, these are the best places to see fall foliage without the big crowds.

Pine Creek Gorge, Pennsylvania

The steep canyon walls and forested valleys of Pine Creek Gorge
In the fall, the steep canyon walls and forested valleys of Pine Creek Gorge are the place to be. VISIT POTTER-TIOGA

Pine Creek Gorge extends 1,450 feet down at its deepest point. Pine Creek flows through the gorge — often called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania — and tree-covered, rolling hills flank each side.

The gorge runs for about 47 miles, with the deepest point near the southern end in Waterville in northern Pennsylvania, about a four-hour drive northwest of Philadelphia. Pine Creek Gorge offers plentiful opportunities for hiking, cycling, horseback riding or a scenic drive.

Climbing the Barbour Rock Trail in Tioga State Forest is a must for memorable views of the gorge. In the fall, those views include a veritable rainbow of autumn leaves, made even more vivid by the evergreen trees that dot the landscape.

TPG tip: Toward the northern end of the gorge, you’ll find locally owned bed-and-breakfasts, inns and campgrounds. If you want to use your points, there’s a Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites in Lock Haven, a 20-minute drive south of Waterville. Rates start at $116 or 24,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night in October.

Dubuque, Iowa

In the fall, bushy trees in varying hues against a bright blue sky with fluffy white clouds make Dubuque, Iowa, look like something out of a Bob Ross painting.

Get a bird’s-eye view of the landscape from the top of the Fenelon Place Elevator, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the world’s steepest, shortest scenic railway, the 296-foot-long railway takes passengers on one-way or round-trip tours from Dubuque’s Fourth Street to Fenelon Place.

From the top, you can view downtown Dubuque, the Mississippi River and thousands of “happy little trees.” Riding the Fenelon Place Elevator requires a small fee ($2 one-way or $4 round-trip), and you must pay in cash. Children under the age of 5 are free.

TPG tip: Use your IHG One Rewards points at the Holiday Inn Dubuque/Galena, just a five-minute walk from the elevator. Rates start at $107 or 22,000 IHG One Rewards points per night in October.

Finnish Lapland

If you thought the best time to visit Finnish Lapland was in the winter, think again. If you visit in mid-to-late September, you’ll be treated to a fiery prism of leaves and the rare opportunity to see the northern lights. The aurora is typically visible beginning as early as late August, and is often most active around the fall and spring equinoxes.

During the day, you can enjoy autumn activities like berry picking, mushroom foraging and hiking in scenic spots like the Vikakongas hiking trail and the Auttikongas waterfall and nature trail.

TPG tip: You don’t have to give up the gorgeous outdoor views when you book a stay at the Arctic Treehouse Hotel via World of Hyatt. The property has 60 private suites and villas, including its namesake treehouse suites with panoramic windows. Rates start at $332 or 22,125 World of Hyatt points per night this September.

Lexington, Kentucky

Fall foliage on a beautiful drive through Lexington. VISIT LEXINGTON

When you think of Kentucky, horse racing and bourbon probably come to mind. You’ll find both in Lexington, along with vibrant fall colors. View the fall leaves on foot with a 3.8-mile hike along the Kentucky River Palisades Trail in Tom Dorman State Nature Preserve, or take to the skies with a treetop canopy zip line tour with Boone Creek Outdoors. To explore by car, go for a drive along the Old Frankfort Pike Scenic Byway’s rolling hills.

For the full Kentucky experience, try a picturesque horseback ride at Kentucky Horse Park, followed by a visit to Keeneland’s fall racing meet. If you want to combine urban exploration and leaf-peeping, check out the Town Branch Trail. The mixed-use trail links downtown to Lexington’s Distillery District, where you’ll find dining, shopping and, of course, bourbon.

TPG tip: The Sire Hotel is in the historic Gratz Park neighborhood, only a short walk from downtown Lexington and less than 10 miles from both Keeneland and Kentucky Horse Park. Rates in October start at $167 or 55,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Katy Trail State Park, Missouri

Katy Trail State Park is home to the country’s longest recreational rail trail, which can be traversed by foot, bike or horse. The trail follows the path of the Missouri River between the towns of Machens, just north of St. Louis, and Clinton, in western Missouri, offering many opportunities to take in the fall scenery along the way.

There are more than 26 trailheads along the 240-mile-long trail, many close to bike rental facilities, dining and camping.

If you want to see the sights without doing the legwork, seasonal tram tours are available on two Tuesdays monthly in May, June, September and October.

TPG tip: Along the trail, choose from historic inns, vacation rentals, basic points hotels and camping options for accommodations. After a long hiking or cycling trip, pamper yourself at the spa at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. Rates in early November — when peak foliage is predicted for Missouri — start at $479 or 49,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

If your fall travels take you to the Buckeye State, Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s vivid orange and yellow foliage will stop you in your tracks. The park has a scenic railway, hundreds of miles of trails and access to the Cuyahoga River so you can experience the sights at your own pace.

If you love having options, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad sells an Explorer Pass, which allows you to ride the train in one direction and hike, run, kayak or bike to your starting point.

The foliage peaks near Brandywine Falls in mid-October. Follow the 1.5-mile Brandywine Gorge Loop trail to see red sugar maples pop against the dark brown leaves of the white oaks and the white foam of the 60-foot waterfall.

TPG tip: The national park is just a 30-minute drive south of downtown Cleveland. Check in to the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade, located in a historic 1890 shopping mall in the heart of downtown. Rates in October start at $129 or 9,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

Greenville County, South Carolina

While everyone else is heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains, in-the-know travelers will head to the mountain range’s foothills to visit Greenville, South Carolina. While downtown Greenville has the expected shopping and dining, you might be surprised that you don’t need to leave downtown to experience the area’s fall colors.

The best way to see the area’s waterfalls, river and sweeping green spaces is on the Liberty Bridge at Falls Park on the Reedy, located downtown. The uniquely shaped, curved pedestrian bridge spans 345 feet and has panoramic views of the changing foliage.

TPG tip: Located within the park, the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, Autograph Collection has rooms with views of the falls. Rates start at $283 or 52,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night this October.

Killarney National Park, Ireland

There’s no shortage of natural beauty in Killarney National Park‘s 26,000 acres of tranquil lakes, craggy mountains and lush forests, but the history of this area of southwest Ireland makes it even more alluring. You can visit a 4,000-year-old prehistoric settlement, a castle and abbey built in the 15th century, and centuries-old grand estates.

Trails range from wheelchair accessible to a “very difficult” trail that leads to the summit of Torc Mountain. In addition to fall’s fiery, red-hued leaves, you can try and spot the country’s last indigenous herd of red deer.

TPG tip: Just outside the park, Killarney Glamping offers glamping suites, luxury lodges and private cabins, all with en suite bathrooms and heating. The resort’s sauna, set on the banks of the River Flesk, is available to guests. Rates start at $280 per night in October.

Use your Hilton Honors points at the Cahernane House Hotel, an SLH hotel, a late-19th-century manor home between the national park and the town of Killarney. October rates start at $275 or 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Grizedale Forest, England

Grizedale Forest

Grizedale Forest, named for the Grizedale Hall estate that once stood on the grounds, is in Northwest England’s Lake District. Forestry England manages the land, which provides ample opportunities for visitors to explore the area on foot, horseback, bike or a high ropes course.

The blanket of green trees that covers the hills and valleys in spring and summer gives way to a kaleidoscope of red, orange and yellow hues in the fall.

While enjoying the colorful leaves painted by Mother Nature, you can also visit a sculpture trail with pieces forged from natural materials, a children’s playground and a cafe. If you are visiting with kids, don’t miss the Gruffalo orienteering course for a bit of educational fun.

At night, go stargazing at the Grizedale Observatory and Planetarium, which opened in 2025.

TPG tip: The Swan Hotel & Spa is a 20-minute drive from Grizedale Forest. It offers standard rooms and private cottages starting at $147 per night in October.

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia

Plitvice Lakes National Park with fall foliage
Plitvice Lakes National Park. PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK ARCHIVE

Opened in 1949, Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of Croatia’s oldest and largest national parks, but the forces that carved the park’s caves and water features are much older. Over the course of thousands of years, water flowing over the park’s rocks created unique, multilevel lakes and waterfalls that flow between them. Plitvice Lakes’ year-round dreaminess is further heightened in the fall when the turquoise waters contrast dramatically with the autumn leaves.

There is a fee to enter the park, but admission includes access to sightseeing boats and train tours. You can also hike from the parking lot to see the lakes (and leaves) on foot.

TPG tip: Hotel Jezero is just next to the park entrance and offers perks like free parking and complimentary transportation to select locations inside the park. When you book the Plitvice Lakes Autumn Charms Package (from $110 per night in October), you’ll also get park entry for the length of your stay and complimentary breakfast.

Eryri National Park, Wales

Within Eryri National Park, also known by its English name Snowdonia, you’ll find Yr Wyddfa — the highest mountain in Wales. Luckily, you don’t have to hike 3,560 feet to the summit to see the brilliant fall foliage (unless you want to). There are hiking, cycling and horseback riding trails to suit all levels, as well as paved paths that are accessible for wheelchairs.

If you visit in mid-to-late October, you’ll enjoy an array of orange and yellow leaves across the mountainous peaks.

TPG tip: If you want to fully immerse yourself in Wales’ fall beauty, there are hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and campsites in the park. The Grapes is a cozy family-owned hotel and pub in the village of Maentwrog, bookable via Chase Travel. Rates in October start at $142 per night.

Bottom line

Whether you plan to travel a short distance to look at the leaves on a crisp autumn day or fly to another continent for a full fall-iday, you’ll find what you seek — without the crowds — in these destinations.

In a chaotic world, an increasing number of travelers are seeking quiet escapes in nature.

Travel company Travelbag determined the best global vacation destinations for serenity seekers, based on factors like noise and light pollution, the number and quality of green spaces, and the local congestion levels.

Coming in on top as the ultimate place for tranquil energy and extensive green spaces is Queensland, New Zealand. Set near Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by the Southern Alps, Queenstown boasts pristine nature and many opportunities to slow down, scoring 94.4 out of 100 for green space quality.

Queensland also scored 91.67 for its exceptional cleanliness and had the second-best score for low noise and light pollution. The town also has a low level of travel congestion despite its relative popularity.

Coming in at second place is the Seychelles Islands, which is also the most peaceful beachside retreat with its white sand beaches, clear turquoise water, and incredibly low noise and light pollution. The Indian Ocean archipelago off the coast of Africa, north of Madagascar, comprises 115 islands and is a global hotspot for biodiversity.

The third place is shared between Kyoto, Japan; Banff, Canada; and Cairns, Australia. Cairns, situated on the northeastern coast of Queensland, stood out for its cleanliness and green spaces, as well as low noise and light pollution levels. It offers a relaxed, tropical scenery and a well-maintained environment. Cairns is not far from the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest, offering a peaceful and natural option for travelers.

Whistler, Canada, secured the No. 4 spot, while Australia’s Gold Coast rounds out the top five. However, in a separate ranking of the most peaceful beachside retreats, the Gold Coast ranked third.

“[The Gold Coast] is home to some of the country’s most iconic beaches, which are not only highly rated by visitors but also set within one of the cleanest destinations overall. With a cleanliness score of 72.9 and water pollution at just 35.7, it makes a perfect spot for a peaceful swim,” Travelbag said in a statement, shared with Travel + Leisure.

The award-winning U.K.-based company reported that 72 percent of Brits go on holiday to relax and recharge, while 47 percent “seek holidays that help them feel more grounded and mindful.”

Beaches are beautiful at any time of day, but the night can bring something extra special. Bioluminescent tides—which shine in the darkness—exist throughout the world. Sometimes these glowing waters seem like tiny twinkling stars suspended in the ocean. Other times, the seas shine with extraordinary brightness.

This phosphorescence is often a result of algae suspended in the water that glows whenever it is jostled by the tide rolling in and out or by the motion of a boat, fish, or finger moving through the water. Bioluminescent organisms like firefly squid and ostracod crustaceans sometimes create this glowing effect.

In a light-polluted world, the night’s beauty is often obscured by the glare of manmade light. But, if you look closely, you might see the quiet and gorgeous glow of bioluminescence.

Below, find eight places where you can view glowing ocean waters.

The Blue Grotto, Malta

Joe Daniel Price / Getty Images

Blue Grotto in Malta, reachable only by a specially licensed boat, is said to be one of the most spectacular natural sights in the world. The oceanic sea cavern on the island’s south coast is surrounded by tall cliffs that are constantly pounded by waves, producing the phosphorescent glow for which the cave is known.

Blue Grotto is one of six caves on Malta, all popular tourist destinations.

Jervis Bay, Australia

RugliG / Getty Images

Beyond a white sandy beach and crystal-clear water, Jervis Bay, on the south coast of New South Wales, has bright, beautiful bioluminescence presentations. The dinoflagellate species Noctiluca scintillans, a widely occurring red tide organism, makes the sea sparkle in this bay. The most radiant displays typically occur between May and August and are especially concentrated at night after a rainfall.

Mosquito Bay, Puerto Rico

Edgar Torres / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY 3.0

A remarkable algae glow at Mosquito Bay is one of three bioluminescent bay occurrences in Puerto Rico and is best observed from the water. Guinness World Records recognized this bay, known for its brilliant illumination, as the brightest bioluminescent bay in 2006.

The dinoflagellate Pyrodinium bahamense causes this beautiful blue glow. These harmful algae produce saxitoxins that can lead to paralytic shellfish poisoning, which is highly toxic to humans.

Matsu Islands, Taiwan

WanRu Chen / Getty Images

The dinoflagellate red Noctiluca scintillans cause the aptly named “blue tears” of Taiwan’s Matsu Islands. These sea sparkles are most visible after dark along the shores of the Matsu Islands.

Scientists in China have begun using satellites to track the harmful plankton, which has become more abundant. The scope of the algae bloom in the East China Sea includes coastal and offshore waters, and the algae survive in warmer waters better than previously believed.

San Diego, California

Justin Bartels / Getty Images

The dinoflagellate algae Lingulodinium polyedrum is responsible for the glow off of San Diego’s coastline. In the daytime, it causes the water to appear red (red tide), but after sunset, the organisms’ natural defense mechanism results in the water turning blue. The red tide in California is not associated with nutrient runoff and has not been linked to yessotoxin.

The bioluminescent glow does not happen every year, and scientists have not been able to predict when it will occur. But when it does happen, people flock to the beaches to see and photograph the bright blue tides.

Toyama Bay, Japan

Ma-mi / Getty Images

The glow at Toyama Bay occurs for a different reason. It comes not from phytoplankton but from a phosphorescent creature called the firefly squid, or Watasenia scintillans. Every year from March to June, the bay and shoreline become inundated with millions of these three-inch squid, which come up from the ocean depths to breed. As they fill the waters and beaches, fishermen and tourist operations spring into action.

Republic of the Maldives

AtanasBozhikovNasko / Getty Images

The island paradise of the Maldives radiates just a bit brighter from mid-summer through winter when the ocean and shore glow and sparkle. The bright light is caused by ostracod crustaceans, which are bioluminescent organisms.  The warm waters surrounding these islands provide the perfect environment for these luminous organisms that can glow for more than one minute.

Luminous Lagoon, Jamaica

GummyBone / Getty Images

This shallow fresh and saltwater lagoon glows nearly year-round in the warm waters of Jamaica. The dinoflagellates feed on the vitamin B12 produced by the mangroves that surround the lagoon, and the abundant microscopic bioluminescent plankton is illuminated by the slightest movement. Boats bring visitors to the middle of the lagoon after dark where they can swim in the radiant blue water.

Kylie Jenner Is Visiting This Underrated Greek Island http://livelaughlovedo.com/kylie-jenner-is-visiting-this-underrated-greek-island/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/kylie-jenner-is-visiting-this-underrated-greek-island/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 16:27:19 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/18/kylie-jenner-is-visiting-this-underrated-greek-island/ [ad_1]

  • Kylie Jenner is reportedly vacationing on Kefalonia, an underrated Greek island known for its turquoise beaches, luxe hotels, and laid-back atmosphere.
  • Unlike more crowded destinations like Santorini or Mykonos, Kefalonia is lesser known but still has just as much natural beauty as its counterparts.
  • There are a number of beaches that travelers can visit, as well as a variety of idyllic vineyards.

Kylie Jenner is living the European summer dream and sharing it all on social media. And yes, it’s making us a bit jealous. But it’s also inspiring us to plan a Greek island vacation, too. But not to just any old island, but the same one Jenner is (reportedly) at: Kefalonia.

The island, tucked to the west of mainland Greece, is part of the Ionian Islands, and is most certainly visited, but is far more of an undercover gem than its more popular cousins to the south, like Mykonos and Santorini. According to the U.K.-based newspaper, The Daily Express, it received just 755,929 international visitors in 2024, compared to Santorini’s 1.5 million. But in every way, Kefalonia is just as magical.

The island is packed with gorgeous, soft-sand beaches lapped by turquoise waters. That includes several Blue Flag beaches, an organization that finds and awards coastal stretches for their sustainability and cleanliness, like Ai Helis Beach, Ammes Beach, Aragia Beach, and Makris Gialos Beach. However, none are as glamorous or as picturesque as Myrtos, which has small, white pebbles that lead out to turquoise waters. The whole shebang is framed by towering cliffs on its sides.

But there’s plenty more for you (and Kylie Jenner) to do here, too, including exploring the Melissani and Drogarati caves, visiting the small towns lining the shore such as Argostoli (the capital of Kefalonia), hiking through Mount Ainos National Park, and naturally, eating plenty of fantastic Greek food paired with locally produced Greek wines.

I recommend Orealios Gaea, a vineyard that specializes in growing Robola white wine grapes. It’s also situated next to Monastery Saint Gerasimos of Kefalonia, which was built in the year 1200 and is considered one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites on the island.

Though Jenner didn’t share where she’s staying on this trip, she would have plenty of luxurious properties on the island to choose from, including the stunning Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa Kefalonia, which is on the southern end of the island and offers fantastic ocean views from its infinity pool. And with just 12 villas, Jenner (or you) can have the utmost in privacy. Had she not had her daughter in tow, Jenner could have checked into the adults-only F Zeen Kefalonia, which has two infinity pools, a spa, and breathtaking ocean views.

Again, Kefalonia is known, but not so well known that the Instagram crowd has overrun it just yet. And that’s likely exactly the type of celebrity-worthy exclusivity Jenner was looking for on her getaway.

“While many of the Greek Islands are situated on the eastern coast, Kefalonia is located on the western coast in the Ionian Sea. This inevitably creates an air of exclusivity and uniqueness as well as quiet beaches,” Damaris Osorio, a relationship manager specializing in Greek travel at Black Tomato, said in a Nov. 2024 interview with Travel + Leisure. “People can enjoy a multitude of outdoor experiences such as caving, jeep safaris, coasteering, and sea kayaking while escaping the crowds. Far fewer people think of visiting Kefalonia while in Greece and typically opt for the classic spots like Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens, but it’s unfettered and equally beautiful. Perfect for those seeking a combination of adventure and tranquility, it’s Greece’s best-kept secret.”

This Beach in Italy Was Just Named Best in the World http://livelaughlovedo.com/this-beach-in-italy-was-just-named-best-in-the-world/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/this-beach-in-italy-was-just-named-best-in-the-world/#respond Mon, 14 Jul 2025 06:55:13 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/14/this-beach-in-italy-was-just-named-best-in-the-world/ [ad_1]

Cala Goloritzé in Sardinia, Italy has been named the world’s best beach by The World’s 50 Best Beaches thanks to its stunning limestone spire, crystal-clear waters, and strict conservation efforts that preserve its pristine beauty.

As you start to finalize your plans for the year, you may want to leave room in your schedule for a trip to Italy—specifically, to Sardinia, where you’ll find the official best beach in the world. According to The World’s 50 Best Beaches, this prestigious title goes to Cala Goloritzé, a remote beach in the southern part of the Golfo di Orosei.

“While the entire Baunei Coast is stunning, Cala Goloritzé stands out, thanks in part to its dramatic 143-metre [469-foot] limestone pinnacle, reminiscent of something out of a cathedral. The water here is unbelievably clear and perfect for swimming, but what truly sets this beach apart are the strong conservation efforts that protect it,” the site reads. It’s clean, the turquoise waters are divine, and boats have to stay at least 600 feet away, keeping the coast free of any traffic or excess noise.

The 50 Best Beaches list was put together by “judges, Beach Ambassadors, and [the] World’s 50 Beaches team.” The site notes that travel professionals are initially asked to vote on the beaches they think deserve recognition. The team then uses those numbers to choose the final ranking, although they also take into account other criteria, including calm waters, unique landscape, wildlife, crowds, and the untouched nature of the beach.

And it doesn’t get more pristine than Cala Goloritzé, where a limited number of admission tickets are sold each day. Travelers can book their €7 pass through Heart of Sardinia.

Those who are hiking down to the beach should be prepared for a trek—water, sunscreen, and walking shoes are highly recommended. The Baunei tourism board (Baunei is the closest town to the beach) notes that it’ll take around an hour and a half to reach the beach from the Su Porteddu campground, and it’s a two-hour journey back. If you’re on a boat, you’ll need to be able to swim the 600 feet from your watercraft to the shoreline.

The effort is worth it, though. When you reach Cala Goloritzé, you’ll be greeted by a stunning rock arch and the aforementioned limestone spire known as Punta Caroddi. If you visit during the high season (July and August), you’ll likely run into more people, so The World’s 50 Best Beaches suggests planning your trip for June or September. You’ll get fewer crowds and “excellent weather.” The average high in both June and September is around 78 degrees Fahrenheit—perfect for a refreshing post-hike swim in the crystal-clear waters.

American adds 3 new routes in big Latin America expansion http://livelaughlovedo.com/american-adds-3-new-routes-in-big-latin-america-expansion/ http://livelaughlovedo.com/american-adds-3-new-routes-in-big-latin-america-expansion/#respond Sat, 12 Jul 2025 19:45:45 +0000 http://livelaughlovedo.com/2025/07/13/american-adds-3-new-routes-in-big-latin-america-expansion/ [ad_1]

American Airlines will give winter-weary travelers some warm-weather escapes later this year.

The Fort Worth-based airline announced this week that it would add three new routes across Latin America for the winter season.

The new flights include service between Chicago and two destinations in Mexico: Mexico City and Queretaro. American will also add service between Philadelphia and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

When to go: These are the best times to buy an international flight

American’s new daily service from its Chicago hub at O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) will debut on Oct. 26, while the airline will only operate select flights during the peak holiday season from Dec. 18, 2025, to Jan. 5, 2026, on the new route from Chicago to Queretaro International Airport (QRO).

Meanwhile, the new daily service from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) will commence on Dec. 18.

In addition to the three new routes, the airline is expanding holiday service across Latin American between Dec. 18, 2025, and Jan. 5, 2026. This expansion touches three routes from PHL and eight from Miami International Airport (MIA), which is American’s primary gateway hub to points south of the border.

In total, American plans to operate more than 2.3 million round-trip seats throughout Latin America during the December holiday season, which is a hopping one million more seats than its closest competitor.

Not only will these new flights appeal to those looking to escape during winter break, but they’ll also likely be popular with VFR (or “visiting friends and relatives”) flyers looking to go home for the holidays.

Interestingly, American’s expansion in Latin America comes as two of its biggest competitors also announced new flights to the region for the winter season.

This week, Delta announced first-ever flights from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) to Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru, taking off on Dec. 4, while United Airlines announced a sizeable expansion across the region.

United is adding one new destination from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) — Tepic International Airport (TPQ), which serves the Mexican state of Nayarit, on the Pacific coast — as well as two new routes from Denver International Airport (DEN) to MEX and to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic.

But despite all the competition, American is still the undisputed leader in service to Latin American. “As the leading U.S. airline in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, at American we’re focused on growing our network, giving our customers access to their favorite destinations in the region — from the tropical paradise of Puerto Rico to the dynamic and cosmopolitan city of Mexico City, and beyond. With these new routes and additional flying, next winter we’ll operate 10% more seats than the previous year, a testament to our commitment to the region and our customers,” said José Freig, American’s vice president of international operations, in a statement.

Tickets for the new flights will be available for sale starting July 14 across all of American’s channels.

BEN SMITHSON/THE POINTS GUY

Regarding hotel stays, World of Hyatt is the most award-friendly program, and Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio. Because of this, all of our top hotels to book with 100,000 Chase points are Hyatt hotels.

Hyatt is one of the few programs that still publishes an award chart, and each redemption option we share below is an example of off-peak pricing.
