Back to Basics with 6 Classic White Dial Watches

Are you done with in-your-face splashes of colour? Are you fed up with blue, yellow, red, green or perhaps even pink and purple? Well, you’re in luck because we’ve been eyeballing a couple of very impressive watches with simple yet ever-fashionable pristine white dials. This almost literal blank canvas can serve any purpose, from simple single-handed unisex watches to field watches and even space-bound chronographs. So, with that in mind, and a taste for something achromatic, here’s our selection of six white dial beauties to balance out the onslaught of colour!

Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition

Exploration demands legibility in any type of instrument, and what’s better than black on white? Or in the case of the Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition, beige and black on white? Available in either 37mm or 41mm, the white dial looks extremely crisp, yet with a vintage touch thanks to the beige luminous inserts in the minute track and hands. Powered by the Calibre H10, which is Hamilton’s version of the Powermatic 80, it won’t let you down any time soon, thanks to the generous 80 hours of running time. It comes on a khaki-green NATO strap for EUR 1,065, a leather strap for EUR 1,115 or a steel bracelet for EUR 1,195. All very sensible!

Rolex Sky-Dweller 336938

Rolex added two new versions of its most complex watch to date, the Sky-Dweller, to the collection this year, both executed in precious metal. Ref. 336938 comes in a 42mm wide yellow gold case with fluted yellow gold Ring Command bezel, and a matching brushed and polished Jubilee bracelet. This is offset with a stark white dial, serving as the backdrop for the gold applied markers and hands. As standard with the current generation of the Sky-Dweller, it comes with the calibre 9002, which was updated slightly last year. The very practical and user-friendly Sky-Dweller in yellow gold and white retails for EUR 51,000.

IWC Portugieser Eternal Calendar

The numbers the IWC Portugieser Eternal Calendar brings to the table are almost beyond comprehension; a gear that rotates once every 400 years, no adjustment needed until the year 3999, a moon-phase display accurate to 45 million years. But this time around, it’s the spectacular white dial that garners our attention instead! Made of glass, with white lacquer being applied on the underside, it has a very unique look. The raised profile of the subdials and outer flange for the minute track enhances the undeniable sense of depth even more. The platinum watch, worn on a leather strap, is yours for a rather hefty EUR 150,000.

Bvlgari Aluminium Automatic White

The Bvlgari Aluminium Automatic has always been a very good watch for hotter days, due to its low weight and comfy segmented rubber strap. New to the collection for this year is the Aluminium Automatic White, perhaps the perfect watch for this year’s summer season. The rubber-clad bezel, dial and segmented strap are all finished in bright white, with only minimal touches of colour. The strongly contrasting markers and hands keep things perfectly legible, while the central seconds hand gets a touch of red to stand out. Powered by the ETA 2892-based Calibre B77, this 1,000-piece limited edition retails for EUR 3,450.

Omega Speedmaster moonwatch professional master chronometer White Dial

Going from black to white can have a big impact, and it certainly does for the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional. The long-awaited white version enters the permanent collection for the first time ever, making it the only currently available ‘Speedy‘ in a steel case without a black dial. The strongly contrasting black markings and hands, with just a hint of red details, evoke a little bit of the spirit of the Alaska project watches, which is pretty cool! It’s equipped with the manually wound Calibre 3861 and comes on a rubber or leather strap for EUR 8,500 or a stainless steel bracelet for EUR 8,900.

MeisterSinger Neo

Last but not least, is the most minimalistic watch of the bunch. Known and loved for its tranquil single-handed approach to watchmaking, MeisterSinger has recently updated its compact Neo with higher water resistance and a sapphire crystal instead of acrylic. This specific 36mm wide model pairs a crisp ivory-white dial with black, blue and gold markings and a single needle-like hand. Mechanically, nothing has changed, so you still get 38 hours of power reserve from a Sellita SW200 automatic movement. The Ocean Blue leather strap pairs very well, and the new Neo retails for EUR 1,890, a slight increase over the old one.
