Toronto-based interior design firm BURDIFILEK ventured onto the water with its first luxury yacht project, Entourage. The 63-meter-long ship instantly made waves, receiving recognition from the 2024 Boat Innovation & Design Awards and BOAT International World Superyacht Awards. Artfully detailed and refined features include indoor and outdoor lounge areas, a cocktail bar, a stateroom, and plenty of guest rooms. Custom furniture, luxurious materials, and a zen palette inform BURDIFILEK’s brilliant design.
The Making of Entourage
Damen Yachting constructed the unique and lavish Amels 6002 model boat, whose exterior design by Espen Oeino draws on timeless maritime aesthetics. The understated elements create a subtle, polished feeling of luxury and immersion in the natural world. Moving from the outside in, BURDIFILEK’s attentive design aims not to disrupt or contend with the surrounding beauty, balancing comfort and composition.
Diego Burdi, Creative Director and Founder (alongside Paul Filek) at BURDIFILEK, explained the vision for the award-winning yacht. “We wanted the exterior surrounding to start the visual dialogue with the interior environment, so embracing the language of marine design was the beginning of the narrative in the studio.”
When it comes to initial impressions, subtlety was always the goal. “The initial impression is rather understated, and creating understated luxury was key during the design process,” Diego emphasizes.
A Timeless Interior by BURDIFILEK
The floor-to-ceiling windows allow an expansive view, creating an interplay of the interior, exterior, and the surrounding beauty. Muted hues, like blush and sand, lend a delicate touch of color. And fumed-oak-finished walls enhance the warmth of the space. Overall, the interior boasts a modern yet timeless aesthetic.
The ergonomic, custom-designed furniture relies on rich textures and gentle curves to create a calming atmosphere. Meanwhile, safely secured touches of art, such as the beautiful glass sculptures by Simon Waranch, appear as jewels throughout the space.
At the heart of all design choices is simplicity and sophistication. As BURDIFILEK’s first venture into the world of luxury yacht design, Entourage displays expertise in setting and contrast. The project presented new challenges for the firm’s designers, leading to unexpected changes in the structure and fresh approaches to boat design.
Custom Artisan Details
The dry finish of the deck creates a polished look without competing with the reflective water. Custom deck furniture echoes the curves and soft edges of the interior, harmonizing the space. There is an undeniable sense of place, as Diego wanted to capitalize on the feeling of being on the water.
A striking spiral staircase serves as both a passage between decks and a work of art. The stairwell was designed to resemble an unraveling ribbon coming down from above.
In the stateroom, the zen vibes continue. Blue accents gently pop in unison with the ocean outside against the rest of the interior’s soft, clean palette of neutrals in varying textures and sheens. The use of glass tables and accessories throughout the space further adds to the overall light feeling of the design.
The luxurious and understated Entourage exudes luxury in every detail. Thanks to the thoughtful interplay of lines, curves, lighting, and a comforting color scheme, the boat provides a calming escape on the water and an immersive leisure experience.
