Capella Is Opening a Luxe New 86-Key Hotel in Taiwan This Year – Robb Report

Capella Hotels and Resorts is bolstering its presence in Asia.

The hospitality group, which currently helms seven properties across the globe, is expected to open its first hotel in Taiwan by the end of the year. The new 86-key Capella Taipei sits in the heart of the Tawainese capital, a stone’s throw from Songshan International Airport and the popular Xingtian Temple.

Designed by André Fu, the “modern mansion” aims to reflect the contrast between Taipei’s contemporary skyline and the patches of verdant greenery in the city. “It is a re-telling of my personal journey discovering Taipei,” Fu said in a statement. “Flaneuring around local neighborhoods and wandering into the lush tree-lined DunHua North Road where the hotel fondly resides, I was absorbed with the poetic environment—it captures the feeling of an escape nestled within European boulevards, a soulful atmosphere that evokes an antithesis to the urbanity one might typically perceive Taipei.”

The large open-plan interior sees smooth stone juxtaposed with warm lighting and colorful art. A large sculptural staircase takes guests to the rooms and suites. The one-bedroom suite (pictured top) features expansive windows and an outdoor terrace to provide guests with breathtaking views of both the metropolis and the mountains.

The hotel will have no less than four culinary concepts. The Grill will serve up farm-to-table produce via a French-inspired seasonal menu, while the patisserie will sling artisanal breads and house-roasted coffee. In addition, the Japanese restaurant will offer a top-notch omakase experience and a two-story mixology-focused bar on the ground floor will whip up tipples.

When it’s time to unwind, the second floor is equipped with a host of wellness facilities, including four treatment rooms, a fitness studio, and an outdoor heated pool.

Capella is, of course, known for its “Living Rooms,” where you can enjoy drinks and conversation with other guests. The signature “Capella Culturists,” a.k.a. concierges, will also be on hand to help plan local trips and experiences. Speaking of which, the hotel is conveniently located by vibrant art districts, like Taze-Neihu, Songshan Culture Park, and Huashan 1914 Creative Park. It is also close to the Taipei Arena, which regularly holds concerts and performances.

Capella currently manages properties in Bangkok, Shanghai, Ubud, Hainan, Singapore, Hanoi, and Sydney, but the group is rapidly expanding. Capela is planning to open outposts in Nanjing, South Korea, Kyoto, and Riyadh in 2025, as well as locations in Shenzhen and the Maldives in 2027. It should have a global presence before long, then.
