The world met Ariana Greenblatt in Barbie as Sasha, a sharp-tongued teen with no time for Barbie’s wide-eyed optimism. Like her character, her style leans away from the girlish couquettecore in favor of something a bit more grunge. Take, for instance, her look at Coach’s Fall/Winter 2024 runway show—a floor-length black leather coat and matching croc leather bag, both courtesy of the brand. While at the show, presented inside The James B. Duke House on New York City’s Upper East Side, Greenblatt said a warm hello to fellow starlets Camilla Mendes and Storm Reid before the NYC-themed collection processed through the house’s ground floor.
Following the show, L’OFFICIEL sat down with the actress to hear her thoughts on the collection, her favorite things to do in NYC, her fashion week essentials, and more.
L’OFFICIEL: What were you most excited to see in the show?
Ariana Greenblatt: I was, of course, excited to see the looks but I got to see some of my friends as well and it’s good to see familiar faces. But yeah, those suit jacket looks were incredible and the boots. I had my eye on the boots the whole time.
L’O: The Western style is back.
AG: Yes. 100 percent.
L’O: Tell me about this look that you’re wearing.
AG: It’s kind of Matrix-y but it’s cold in New York, so I was like, “Let me wear a long trench coat,” and it’s just super my vibe. I feel very much me and it’s like comfortable as well, which is a win-win.
L’O: What’s your favorite thing to do or see during New York Fashion Week when you’re not attending shows?
AG: I, of course, love to go shopping and hang out with my aunt because she lives here. Yeah, see whoever lives here and say hi to them and shopping.
L’O: What are some of your fashion week essentials?
AG: I’m gonna say a good hoodie and sweats. You need to be cozy. Water. Perfume, I need perfume for sure. Yeah, hoodie and sweats for off days, some water to keep you hydrated, and perfume to smell good all the time.
L’O: Imagine your phone dies in the middle of fashion week. What do you do?
AG: I go without it and I bring in my disposable camera to take pictures and I just gallivant the city and walk around.
L’O: Are you a big disposable camera person?
AG: I bring it with me everywhere.
L’O: What’s a trend that you’re obsessed with right now?
AG: Short hair. Everyone is doing short hair. I saw—I think it’s a wig but—Kylie has the short hair right now. Hailey Bieber queen of short hair. I just trimmed my hair but I’m going to go shorter. Short hair is a vibe.
L’O: Do you have any projects coming up that you’re excited about?
AG: Yes, I have Borderlands coming out this summer and I’m really excited. Like [in] August, my birthday month, so that’s a little birthday gift to me. I’m so excited to reunite with the cast. They’re like my favorite people on planet Earth, so I’m very excited for that.
